Breast Cancer Now Forum

Hello Dee, I had a mastectomy of my left breast in June 2016 and an elected mastectomy of my right breast in October 2016. I had cancer in my right breast in 2010 so when it returned in the opposite breast last year I decided to have an elected mastectomy of my right side as it had already been dx with cancer previously. It is taking a while to feel better about it all, I still can't wear a bra comfortably and more often than not I just don't bother wearing one at all. i do find it better to have both sides gone than having one and a missing one. Hello Maria, I'm pleased to have found your follow up post. Since my first dx when I met you six years ago many of us Embarking ladies have become such firm and suportive friends for eachother. Life has been better for knowing you and my other special friends. It's amazing how we have all been able to meet up from all parts of Britain and Europe, and all walks of life. I have recently had great support from you and our other friends when I needed further treatment. Thanks for your reply Janie 2. Yes they have been very good about the elective surgery. I was told it would take a year before my next surgery, then a couple of weeks ago my consultant called me in and said he would make my appointment for 14th October. I was shocked as my bcn had just told me about the year long wait just a couple of weeks before. I'm still a long way from recovery from my first mx which was in June but I might as well deal with pain from both at once. ... View more

Hello I'm new to the forum, after a mamogramme in April I was found to have high grade, wide spead DCIS. I had a mastectomy on 2nd June, for which I had no choice, it had to be done. I am now waiting for a second elected mastectomy on 14th October. I first came to this forum 6 years ago when I had invasive bc. My treatment then was WLE, rads and five years of tablets, which I finished in September 2015. Feel like I'm back to square one at present.   ... View more
