I remember how much I wanted to learn about other people's experiences that had a similar diagnosis to mine. I was diagnosed with 115 mm high grade dcis Dec last year. It was a real shock because I had several mammograms and ultrasound scans due to repeated bouts of mastitis but they had all been clear, it was only when a doctor decided to do a biopsy and then MRI they found the dcis. I had mastectomy and sentinel node removal in Jan .Luckily ( although I didn't feel lucky at the time) it hadn't spread to my lymph nodes so I have needed no further treatment.   As my dcis was only visible on MRI my consultant has agreed to include an MRI in my future check ups.     Hello Lucia, one of the first things you look for when you're diagnosed is information so I thought I'd share my experience. I had suffered repeated bouts of mastitis but mammograms were clear and I had no lumps. Thankfully a female doctor at a breast clinic decided to do a biopsy and then I had an MRI . The result was I had 11.5 cm of high grade dcis. This was diagnosed last Dec. And I had mastectomy and sentinel node removed in Jan, node was clear so I haven't needed any other treatment or drugs. I wasn't given the option of immediate reconstruction as the consultant thought that radiotherapy was likely (it turned out not needed)I found the emotional healing took a lot longer than the physical and now a year has gone by I'm starting the rounds of check-up tests and waiting for results again, but I feel much stronger than I did last year.     Hi Angela,                  I'm due to have a diep recon using stomach tissue in 2 weeks time. I had 2 caesareans 20 and 24 years ago. When I had my meeting to discuss my options my consultant said that wouldn't be a problem. Good Luck with everything , best wishes, Sue  ... View more

     Most of my scar is quite flat now, the only bits that are puckered are at the beginning (where my cleavage would be if I had one! ) and in my armpit where the sentinel node was removed. I have only just got rid of the soreness there, this week has been the first week when I've been able to wear a bra all day.        It's hard to imagine your arm movement will get back to normal when it feels like the muscles on one side are 2 inches shorter than the other!        I really hope you get your results soon, I won't tell you not to worry because I know from experience that's impossible. I had a mastectomy on the 18th Jan and sentinel node removed. I had 115mm of high grade dcis(non-invasive) but the sentinel node was clear and will need no further treatment. I didn't have immediate reconstruction as was expecting to have radiotherapy but I don't need that now and am being referred for future reconstruction.
