Hi I've just started on Cape a couple of days ago....interested to know if anyone had a bad cough due to mets in their lungs and if so did the Cape help. (My onc thinks that my lungs are being irritated by the mets there giving me a horrible cough. Have been prescribed liquid morphine which helps). Keeping evrything crossed that the Cape works!

For some reason I wasn't contacted about when I should have started radiotherapy(after my mx and reconconstruction) and now 4 months later I have been advised to have 15 treatments starting 5th Feb. Am worried that because of the late start,things have become worse ...does anyone else have experience of this?

Sammy - I think recovery depends on the person -if you are reasonably active(not me!!) and do your exercises,rest up as necessary,eat healthily and have a positive outlook, recovery may be faster. I had a single mx on the right hand side with a DIEP (ftom the tummy area)plus full node clearance and 10 weeks on, am still in pain and discomfort with tingling and numbness in my hands.Sleeping at night is very difficult and have just been prescribed a different painkiller to help with this. Remember to talk to your BCN or your GP - don't suffer in silence. Interestingly(as like you I couldn't face going through this again),I was refused a double mx as my surgeon didn't want to remove a healthy boob. I wish you well with your treatment. x

Thanks for your reply Ms Merton. I was given some exercises to do and they do help. Will be doing a lot more massaging! Saw my surgeon on Monday and apart from some fat necrosis he was happy with the outcome, though I may need more surgery to make my boobs look even. The plan is forme to see him again in 3 months time. My new 'foob' (love this word!) is getting softer gradually and hopefully will settle down with time.

Thankyou for your support and advice Ms Merton and Becca. I emailed my BCN and I had fallen off the system. She confirmed that the discomfort/pain takes timeto settle down. Also I've been booked in to see my consultant next Monday, so all is good.

Hi SL I'm 6 weeks post surgery for a DIEP flap and my tummy feels tight and uncomfortable. At home I usually sit with a small blanket which helps a bit. Hopefully things will improve for us soon.

I had a mastectomy and DIEP flap reconstruction 6 weeks ago and am still in a lot of discomfort/pain. Although painkillers help, I am worried that I haven't got a follow up appointment with my consultant to check that all is well and going as it should be. Is this normal?

Hi Amanda I've just DIEP surgery where my tummy area tissue was used for the reconstruction.I had a couple of drains after surgery (the last one is being removed today by the Outreach nurse(16 days after surgery). I am a 48C and am pleased with the outcome..am still on painkillers but it could be because I'm not very active and haven't been keeping up with my excersises! I have a scar from one end to the other end of my tummy but this doesn't bother me as I usually wear a one piece swimsuit on holiday etc.Good luck with whatever you choose to go with.

I had DIEP surgery on 19th Sep'17 and I bought a couple of Drain Dollies bags to carry the drain bottles around with me. Be careful when walking around with them - take care that the tubes don't get caught on door handles or other such objects! A couple of days after surgery I was expected to get out of bed and shower (under supervision of a nurse), so I had soap, a flannel and a dressing gown too.

Hi Jintz Sorry to hear about your hair falling out.I'm practically bald now(it takes a bit of getting used to!),and when I'm not wearing my wig,I wear a soft woolly hat around the house. I find it quite comfortable and it's easy on my scalp. Hope it all goes well for you. Pat

Hi I am on EC and although I tried the cold cap my first major hair loss started about 20 days after my first chemo. I don't use my hairdryer now preferring to let my hair dry naturally.I just have to touch my hair and a few strands will fall off.Will keep going with the cold cap though.

Thanks blueash and tinkerbell. Mine has spread to my lymph nodes so I guess that's why I'm having 9 months of chemo first. Seeing my oncologist tomorrow so I may ask him more questions. Had the cold cap last week on my first chemo...I think the first 10 minutes are the worst. I kept thinking 'I can get myself through this' and literally put my mind elsewhere, by bringing memories of holidays (sitting on a warm beach etc

Hi everyone I am having 4 cycles of EC , followed by 4 Docetaxel followed by another 4 of EC. The consultant at Guys recommended chemo first before surgery. However the doctor at my local hospital suggested having the surgery first. Am wondering which would be better. Having a lot of breast pain and have just started chemo...apart from mouth sores and sickness on the first evening I've been ok, though it's early days.
