Hi Karana, I think we've a similar diagnosis. My onc dx score was 27 as well. Grade 3. My first meeting I was examined by onc to see if my body would cope with chemo, signed consent forms and was told of side effects - they scared me as its a long list! But I got through chemo with v. little SEs and worked throughout treatment (from home). Your diagnosis will determine what regime you get. I was on 6x FEC. The main thing for me was to take into account the times when your immune system is low and not to put yourself at risk of infections during these times. I had 1st onc appt 18th April and started chemo 3rd May which was 2 months after lumpectomy. I had chemo pre assessment and 1st chemo on same day. I didnt have picc line or port, just had cannula inserted at each chemo treatment. Each hospital is different on how they work so it's difficult to say what they have in mind for you. You could always phone up onc dept beforehand and see if they have pencilled in dates for you, that way you know if your holiday will be affected.

Hi Helena. Thank you for starting the thread. I'm just in my last 3 week recovery period from chemo. So start Rads 11th Sept. I am having 15 doses and 8 boosts, so 23 in total, finish 11th October. I have already had my CT scan and tattoos done so all ready to go! I was diagnosed in February, so this is my final part of active treatment. So far, I've had minimal side effects and have worked right through, apart from 2 weeks post surgery. So fingers crossed, rads go smoothly. Good luck to everyone starting this month. Sue

Heather, I'm sure you're chuffed to be finished. Are you planning on going on a moving forward course? I've heard they are pretty good but I don't know how well they fit in if you are working. So pleased every one who was in today had their treatment without any issues. Rosie and Jay - great that you managed to pluck up the courage to speak to each other!! I've started to see more hair growth on my head - still not very thick - even though I've been on FEC the whole time. Didn't expect to see any until October. I'll still be shaving it until I know there's a good coverage!!

Wow. Looks like there is a lot going on for people this week! Good luck to everyone and hope treatments go smoothly. With regards to food, I think if I'd try to change my diet too much I wouldn't stick to it, so everything in moderation (with the odd pig out thrown in), the one good thing to come out of all this is I've increased m veg intake! I think I've got PJ envy. I'd be popping to Sainsbury's this weekend myself for some but the nearest decent size one is 30 miles away! Fingers crossed for everyone this week.

Hi Heather. I've been asked to go on the Add Aspirin trial and have met the relevant criteria. You can have a look at the website where there is a link to who can join the trial. There's lots of histology criteria as well as looking at your medical history. Ive still got to sign the consent form and i think it starts after radiotherapy but i'd need to double check.

Hello everyone. Bloods were good today - had to take it out of back of hand as inner elbow veins were too hard, so chemo went ahead - yey. Cannula in at 2nd attempt and no fainting this time! The nurse used a shorter needle (yellow) at 2nd attempt and that did the job. So pleased it wasn't delayed, I was a bit anxious before as I didn't want any set backs. I'm still going to get out for a walk every day as I feel that helps to keep SEs to a minimum - weather permitting!! Mau, so sorry to hear of the delay again, it must be so frustrating. Rosie, I hope your chemo goes ahead tmrw despite the low reds, you don't want a delay and a wasted journey. Tree house I'm sure your kids and husband understand that your upset as a result of treatment and it's only a blip. Hugs. I start tamoxifen and radiotherapy in 3 weeks, roll on next stage! The free parking and how they process it depends on hospital you are at. I am at Shrewsbury hospital and they have a touch screen at reception, you enter your reg number on it at every appointment to get free parking for that visit. I don't think free parking is universal unfortunately but most hospital do a discount for frequent visits, so it's worth asking what's on offer.

Hi Jay, yes - had my op at beginning of March, chemo is to lower risk of recurrence. Partner said all over tmrw but I don't count it as being over until the end of the 3 week recovery!! Then it will be over!! 😊 I haven't really had any bad side effects, tolerated it pretty well but I'll still be glad to have it behind me. Katie, Jay, WolfEE and everyone - thank you for your kind words. I know you're probably sick of everyone saying it'll soon be over, especially those that have suffered with SEs and hospital admissions but I'm now 7 months since diagnosis and only 2 months from end of active treatment so we will all get there! Stay strong everyone. Xx

Sounds like the steroid quantities are getting very confusing. Best to speak to your oncology team. I've got my last chemo tomorrow, so fingers crossed it goes ahead. Went to hospital today to get a CT scan and tattoos for radiotherapy. Starts 3 weeks after chemo for 23 sessions. Feels like we're all getting that little bit closer to the next stage and to the end of active treatment. Good luck everyone xx

Hi Rosie. I used to use head and shoulders when I had hair. Tried to change to a mild baby shampoo during chemo but head kept on breaking out in spots, so I just continued to use H&S as it seems to help to prevent outbursts and stops the flakiness as well. I've had a sore arm since last chemo, seen onc today for a scheduled review and been prescried hirudoid cream to massage in twice daily to alleviate pain from damaged veins. Thought I was going to get away with minimal SEs. Hopefully this one is temporary as I asked Dr if the next chemo should be done in other arm and he said No, they'll just use whatever arm they can get cannula in. Has anyone else experienced this? Sorry to hear that folks are getting treatments delayed but I think our bodies are letting us know when they want a little rest from it all!! As for ultrasound, I was told when I went in for very 1st scans when I found lump that if it's a dark area on the scan it's usually liquid and therefore a cyst. The radiographer told me it was cancer before I had the biopsy - she could tell just from the mammogram and ultrasound alone. Good luck to everyone on treatment this week. Xx

Hi Wandestrong, I'm in FEC x6 only. No 4 for me was plain sailing in terms of the treatment. I didn't really experience any tiredness / fatigue on the 1st 3 but I have felt a bit more tired on no 4 though I don't think it was fatigue as such, just tired legs from over doing the walking I think. I've just had no 5 this week and so far pretty similar SE pattern to all the previous ones really - just know when they're happening - furry tongue from tmrw for a few days, constipation - not sure how long this goes on for as I pretty much take senokot every night! I've had low neutrophils each time on day before chemo but they always recover by the following day. Not much walking with this rain this week, so having a rest! So sorry to hear about your daughter, hope every thing works out well for her. Really bad timing though xx keep strong.

Anniej- thanks for the info for rads. I have an onc appt before treatment 6 to sign consent form and I was told it starts at the end of the 3 week recovery period for last chemo. They also said the preassesment appt takes the longest as they have to get you lined up exactly to make sure they don't do any more damage to healthy cells than necessary. WolfEE, sorry to hear you've been in hospital, but I'm sure you know you did the right thing to get it checked out. MJK - I guess as chemo and rads as so close together your body is still in recovery mode from chemo, so you will still have to be careful with infections, etc - so a holiday away from people and crowds is probably a good option. Heather & Jay68, good to hear you've found a pattern for your new chemo drug, at least this way you'll know when you can ge out and about and have a semi normal life. God luck for today Trisha and anyone else on treatment.

Just a note for those living in Wales who don't have to pay for prescription anyway. If you are being treated by a hospital in England and you receive a prescription from them, as it was issued in England you will have to pay for it if you haven't got an exemption certificate. I went to the GP to get a form and they don't stock them as no one asks for them anymore. So be prepared and get one up front just in case. I'm going to try to get the form from the ONC department at the hospital now.
