Hi Andrea, I had exactly the same (I posted originally and am now 8 months post surgery) It does settle down. It did take a while but gradually you stop noticing it quite so much as it all settles in place. I’m still always conscious that it feels different but certainly not the way it did in the early days. I’m back to running and doing everything as normal which seemed impossible a few months back. Give it sometime and you’ll find your new normal xxx

Hi Alicat Best of luck for your surgery. I had a mastectomy with implant recon in Dec. I was a G cup before and now a D (i never would have got the same size with implant anyway so decided to go smaller and have reduction on my good breast) The size difference really bothered me for the few months I was unbalanced. I had my reduction in April and I am so happy with the result. It’s made such a difference to my confidence and how I am feeling about my fake boob. I hope you will find the same. I was in hospital over night, no drain this time, and once my wounds healed I was back to normal very quickly x

This is great Nell. I’m so sick of my horrible front zip sports bras and dream of wearing a nice bra again. I’m 4 months post mx and recon, but only 3 weeks post symmetry op. Thanks for the recommendation of John Lewis, that’s where I’ll head ASAP!x

Hi Emac, Wanted to reply and give you some support. So sorry you find yourself here. My daughter is 20months and I’ve just had to have a mastectomy due to high grade, wide spread dcis. So not the same situation as you at all, but it’s amazing how these little people help pull you through. I think having my daughter helped me to get up and about that bit quicker than I would have. I hope you have lots of support around you and you’ll be amazed at how well you and them cope I am sure. Good luck xx

Hi Kathryn, have you used the someone like me service breast cancer care run? I spoke to 2 lovely ladies when I was first diagnosed. It was so helpful hearing from 2 ladies, who were in a very similar situation and stage of life and who had come out the other side. I am now 3 months post mastectomy (with immediate implant recon) and just had surgery to give some symmetry on my right side. I feel I’ve a long way to go coming to terms with it all, but I can say I feel physically I recovered quickly from the mastectomy and was back doing things with my young daughter much quicker than I’d anticipated. Before this second surgery I’d also gone back out running and have started finding my new normal x

Hi Issy, I had mx 1st December with immediate reconstruction using a dermal sling, so I don’t know if the type of sling can make a difference. I am/was a 32G so I have a huge difference between my foob and natural breast (getting reduction and lift surgery in a month or so) but at first I found the swelling was so much that they really didn’t look that different in size. 8 weeks on and the swellings gone down a lot and I’ve noticed the shape as changed over the weeks. So you probably find as the swelling reduces and it all settles it’ll drop and change a bit more, hopefully giving you more balance. Good luck with your recovery x

Hi Roxanne and Whales I had a left mx with immediate recon following high grade dcis in December. Pearls of wisdom - agree with Ezzie on the bag! Get some button up pjs for all the checking in hospital and take arnica a few days before surgery and after to help healing. Roxanne, I too was/am big boobed. My foob is now much smaller than my 32g boob so I’m waiting to have surgery to give symmetry once everything is settled. Waking up to some volume definitely helped though. I hope the surgery goes well for you both and you are soon on the road to recovery and getting your new ‘normal’!x

Hi Pip, It’s so hard not to turn to doctor google, but this formum has helped me a lot too! I’m in a bit of a different situation but thought I’d share in case it helps at all. I was diagnosed with high grade and wide spread dcis and I had a left mx in December. I was adamant I wanted a double mx (I’m 34 with a toddler and didnt want to go through this ever again!) my surgeon held strong to not doing both at the same time but said I could reassess when I was through the first mx. I’m 9 weeks on and have to say I’m really glad I’ve only done one at a time, it’s meant that I can still do so much with my daughter that I wouldn’t have been able to do with both sides out of action and I have also changed how determined I was to have a double. I now feel like I will give myself sometime and then make the decision. So I haven’t really answered your question, but hopefully I’ve helped in some way with my experience! Good luck x

Hi Hilary, It’ll be nice to get into something other than the high impact bras! Im another few weeks on I first wrote the post and things are getting better. Today I went for a walk and suddenly realised I’m not getting the pain from the bounce of the movement as i did before. So a step in the right direction! Still not sure I’m ready for a run but starting to feel more positive that one day soon I might be able to test it out! Hope things continue getting better for you too. Sam x

Hi MrsR, I get the end of the day ache too! I had a sub-pectoral dermal sling. I went down size quite a bit so they were able to use my skin to create a pocket that that holds the implant in place, stitched to the muscle where they lifted it from chest wall. Sleeping is a struggle here too, I used to be a tummy sleeper! I’ve got myself a v pillow which is helping a lot and I’ve managed to use it to make it comfy to sleep on my side. Could be worth a try! Hopefully it all settles down for both of us. I’ve got more surgery planned for March to balance out the other side. I’d love for this side to just feel ok before that! Good luck x

Speaking to people who are or have experienced the same really helped me get my thoughts together and come to terms with things. Hi all, I am interested in hearing peoples experience with having an implant and if it ever feels ‘normal’, or enough so that you can get on with doing things you used to before. I had mx with immediate implant reconstruction in December so I know it is still early days. I’m really struggling with the odd feelings and sensation of the implant and I really hope it settles down as time goes on. Pre surgery I used to run, but I cannot imagine being able to go for a run now. It’s not so much pain but the feeling of my foob when I’m moving. Even if I lean forward/over, a fast paced walk - it all feels so odd! X

Hope your consultant was able to answer your question Jane. I too had this, I’m 4 weeks post mx now and I don’t get it much anymore so it does ease off. It can really take your breath away!! My surgeon told me it was normal as the nerves started coming back x

Hi Nashlel, So sorry you find yourself here and I’m sorry to hear of your recent loss too. What an awfully tough time you’ve had. I was diagnosed with a mix of high to low DCIS in October. It was wide spread (90mm) so I was always told a mastectomy was the option. At the time I was adamant that I wanted both breasts removed (nothing had shown in my right breast), I’ve a young daughter who’s too small to understand- I didn’t want to be dealing with this all again in the future when she had to go through it too. My surgeon and nurses have accepted it’s an option given my age and my anxiety about it coming back in my right, however they stuck to their guns and said one step at a time! I had a left mx with immediate recon 3 weeks ago and will decide what to do with my right when it’s all healed and settled in a couple of months. I do actually feel like I’ve changed my mind on a double mx and am swaying towards their recommendation of a reduction and lift on the right to balance things out. 4 weeks ago I wouldn’t have thought I’d be feeling that way at all! My advice would be to ask lots of questions and review all the options, but take it one step at a time. Get the side that needs doing sorted and then reassess your feelings, one step at a time. It’s all so much to take in and deal with, and I have found my feelings on different things have changed a lot throughout the process so far. I hope that helps a bit, somehow! Sam x

Hi Hb, I’ve not had quite the same as you, but I’m 2 weeks post op with immediate implant recon and I started getting a lot of nerve type pain shooting across the muscle. I asked my surgeon about it and she said it was the nerves coming back after the surgery and quite normal. Maybe it’s part of the healing process for you too. Saying that, so take it easy. Remember what you’ve been through (easier said than done I know!)x
