Hi mitty I had no effects or pain whatsoever from SNB done a week before mx. I couldnt even tell it had been done. After mx they got together and discussed whether i needed chemo or radio. Unfortunately or fortunately i couldn't have either because of a heart condition but it was only a preventative measure only, i didnt need it! Yes im on tamoxifen as i am HER2+. Like you say they only really really know when that breast has come off and they can disect inside unfortunately x CC

Hi kathryn I was exactly the same as you! I had a 1000 doubts had they got it right? should i leave it and go on the loris trial where tgey would keep a close eye under a trial situation as offered by my bc surgeon? Are they over treating? I went out skipping when tvey offered me that "no treatment" exactly what i wanted to hear. However after going away and thinking about it i decided i couldnt live each day with the "what if" and what would be going on inside me so had mx and diep as you know and thats when they found invasive! Maybe being offered no treatment helped me make up my mind. Its an awful period of time for you kathryn i feel for you. My thoughts are with you lovely lady xxx

Hi mitty its totally your decision! I dont know how ladies feel when they come out of the op for a double mx. Personally i am totally unaligned at the moment but on a waiting list for symmetry so yes they do look odd! Im 50 yrs old tho and my playboy cover pics are now a thing of the past lol but i dont really mind as long as im alive and get to watch my family grow im ok with that ☺ Spk to as many ppl and read as much as you can. Hi Mitty im sorry to hear you have found yourself in this club but you will get loads of help and support on here, people are genuinely happy to help in any way they can.<br>I am 9 wks post op, widespread dcis, same bra size as you.<br>I had mx and immediate diep flap reconstruction. I chose this option because it suited me personally. The reconstructed breast is made with tummy fat and is squishy like the other one and grows and shrinks with weight gain/loss. But the winning reason apart from them describing it as the rolls royce reconstruction procedure is that it is a "one stop shop procedure".<br>It isnt by any means an easy op i was under for 10 hours and stitched very tightly by 16 people but i was up and about out of a hospital bed within 2 days. By 4 wks i felt something like the old me and by 6 wks i was the old me. Recovery is 12 wks for internal recovery.<br>I will need some realignment surgery in about a year but for now under a bra or clothes you really cannot see a difference.<br>Im not selling the op because its not an easy one by any means but i would definately choose the same all over again.<br>Pathology results found 2mm invasive so defo right decision for me but you must go with whatever is right for you. Im just passing on my experience and hopefully others will too.<br>What is your next step and is it soon?

Hi Kathryn I had mx with immediate diep reconstruction. The result is amazing and im so happy with the decision. I have peace of mind its all gone with an op that looks exactly the same as before, although when all has settled i will have day surgery to remove the flap and re-align if need be. I asked for nipple sparing and although they can only make that final during the actual op, they tested it and did manage to save my nipple which was important for me. The op is long, 10 hours, gruelling for the family but a nice sleep for you with no complications. I must admit i was very uncomfortable around my abdomen when i woke as i only had just enough fat and skin for recon so they had to stitch very very very tight although ibrufen and paracetomol did me fine. The breast was excellent though no pain whatsoever! Physios had me up on day 2 and gave me excellent exercises to 3 or 4 times a day. I was walking tall within a week. Two weeks on and you feel so much better each day. Four weeks on you "feel" back to your old self Six weeks on you "are" back to your old self ☺ I must admit tho kathryn in clothes youd never guess. In the shower looking down its exactly the same but for some reason i cant explain i personally cannot look in the mirror yet and ive developed the mentality that if i cant look then i cant expect my partner of 31 yrs to look but thats me. He has seen it during all appointments though. So i guess physically i am very pleased and coukdnt ask for a better result but i guess i need to deal with it mentally but i will do it in my own time. Kathryn i forgot to add my new breast is amazing they managed to save the skin and the nipple so it looks exactly the same as before except without the dcis going on inside. They attach a flap for a few months underneath (you cant see it looking down or through clothes, only in the mirror) but after a few months i will have day surgery to have it removed and the breast aligned with the other one (mine barely needs aligning) it looks so normal! I will have a scar underneath in the crease so unnoticeable! Surgery was 5 wks ago. Dont get me wrong it was uncomfortable afterwards but i was up and about walking after two days. You realise you can do more each week but i would say at 4 weeks i turned a corner and could do more or less everything bar lift or hoover or work just yet! Results found a small amount of invasive c so all gone now apart from a small amount of dcis in skin so need further treatment for that. But basically everything is fast. Giid luck lovely CC

Hi kathryn sorry my phone went flat as usual. Being diagnosed with this is a massive shock. It consumes your life, your thoughts, your conversations, everything! I remember going to a friends house to tell her. I blurted it out and broke into tears because i could hear myself saying it out loud. She turned to me and laughed and said this its ok if youre ever going to get c this is the one you want! Its a good c she said and she was right! You can get rid of it! Read everything, find out all your options and you will know in your heart which option is right for you personally. The shock will leave you because you will just want to get on with this blip in your life, get rid and live your life. Determination and the fact that you HAVE to deal with it and get rid of it will take over! Cry when you want to youve earned the right!!! I had a mastectomy with immediate diep reconstruction 5 weeks ago. It was right for me! My dcis is hormone driven so may have to take tamoxifen for a few years. I will know for definate this friday. Dont be scared. Stand up to it! Get rid whichever way is best for you! They will work fast with you and you will have decisions to make but by god they really do respect your decisions and they want to do whats best for you. Read the forum, you really wi t be on your own youll get lots of support. Hugs for now CC
