To make them more comfortsble ask for a local anesthetic cream that you put on an hour or so before...cover with non porous stuff like cling film and tape that over the injection area. I can only talk about me. I had oestrogen +....i had 3 areas so had mastectomy. I have had two years of hormone therepy...zolodex to stop ovaries working and stop production of oestrogen .....hope that helps....good luck x ... View more

It doesnt work like that in our area.....so i am at a loss what to suggest. In our area your GP refers you to go to a breast care centre and they investigate. I would ring the Breast Cancer Now number amd speak to a nurse i that case see what they suggest.... It is totally normal. I had breast cancer two years ago.....was told i had one tumour and an area of concern and would need mastectomy...after mastectomy was told they found another tumour. It may be worth talking to your GP about this ...I was told by a friend who also had breast cancer that she was advised that if her breasts were causing her major anxiety then mastectomy may be worth investigating.....she was advised that she would be sent to see a psychiatrist to assess her.. Also if you go to your GP and tell them you have discharge in the other breast they will refer you back to have that breast checked i would also say you can feel a small lump...if you do this they have to test that breast as a separate issue to the other one that has been operated on.....the appoint in my area has to be within 2 weeks ....should be same in your area... Have you spoken to your GP.....do you have a choice of GP you can talk to?? They can write to the hospital on your behalf and can ask for another Consultant...i know this as my GP offered to do this....also there may be a breast cancer support group near you....i have one...they have loads of good advice... ... What you are feeling is totally normal . I was diagnosed aged 48 two years ago. I had two tumours and an area of DCIS . I had a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. You are bound to be upset by this....it's a massive deal but it has been caught early ....it doesn't seem like it now but you are lucky it's been found early. Once your treatment is done you will slowly get back to normal. It takes time. You will gave days when you are worried about every ache and pain ....it's normal...I'd you have worries don't be afraid to speak to the hospital or your GP. If you need to talk I will listen. Yes I have struggled a lot...I am two years on and it's taken that long for me to calm down. I had a right side mastectomy to my two years ago... My fear is it will come back. There is a book called The Cancer Survivors Companion...it may be worth a read... I had a right side mastectomy due to breast cancer 2 years ago. I imagine what you are going through is a massive shock.i had reconstruction combined with the mastectomy. I know my case is different but want to reassure you that the mastectomy isn't as bad as it sounds....I was back at work part time after two weeks and back to mormsl after 4....its honesty not that bad. I started tamoxifen aged 48...a bit older than you...all I would say is maybe give it a try...it's better to prevent I would say as much as is possible. Side effects for me haven't been too bad....hot flushes..a bit of aching but that's about it. Some people tolerate it more than others...why not give it a try. I have been having zoladex implants for past two years.....I notice you say they hurt...Ask your nurse or doctor to prescribe a aesthetic cream such as denela ...put this in an hour before implant. You place a good amount on skin and cover with cling film or tagaderm..which is a film plaster...don't use anything that will absorb the cream...this should drastically reduce or stop the pain altogether.
