Hi All, I had my interview today with Suman, lovely lady. This was the first time I had told 'my story' from start to finish and I feel like it was a completion of my journey, and feel it actually helped to get it all out of my system. Hi Jules, I'm a success story so I thought it might help you to hear from me. I know what you mean about reading things and wondering if they apply to you - it can be very worrying, especially if you are prone to worrying! My results following biopsy initially came back as negative, but the consultant (bless him!) queried them as he wasn't happy with what he'd seen on the mammograms - after retesting they showed low to intermediate grade pre-cancerous cells (DCIS) and I have had an operation to remove them, no further treatment necessary. Pre cancerous cells can't spread, but I too was warned that something else may be lurking - they need to tell you that just in case, but luckily for me this was not the case. Please try and remain positive, if they have said they have only found pre cancerous cells you need to keep telling yourself they have caught this thing early and the treatment they give you will sort it out. Hi, I can sympathise with the problems you encountered in hospital. I had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic and was really woozy and dizzy there was an old lady on my ward who shouldn't have been there, she was recovering from a stroke and kept moaning out 'whatevers wrong with me?' all day and all night, I felt sorry for the poor thing but it drove me mad and I ended up discharging myself (nurses were none to happy) but I just couldn't bear it any longer. Could you talk to your breast care nurse and discuss the problems you encountered last time, she might be able to make sure you don't get put on a geriatic ward again? You need your rest, surely she will understand it's important you're not stressed out. Luv Carol x ... View more

I have just had the all clear following WLE for DCIS, my consultant said that there was no need to test for it being hormone receptive because it was still at the non invasive stage, confined to milk ducts, and they only test if there has been spread to lymph nodes, or any chance of spread. Yvonne - best of luck for 29th May, I know even when they say 'all clear' there is a litlle something lurking in the back of your mind left there by the experiences you've had. Hi Sue, Ahhh, that's lovely, your husband sounds like a nice man. I'm pleased you have good family support and am keeping everything crossed for you, I am sure this operation will do the trick and you will be able to get on with your life. Got my results today - all clear!!!!!!! Phew, what a relief, they are just going to keep an eye on me now with yearly mammograms - I have so much to thank that surgeon for. Hi, thanks for your suggestions - if I end up near Buxton I will look out for you! Today has suprisingly gone really quickly and I actually feel quite calm. Determined to enjoy the week end no matter what! One of my friends suggested doing a 'Come Dine With Me for Under a Tenner' for a bit of fun as we are always having meals at each others houses and she's doing the first one on Saturday night - should be a laugh. Hi All, So sorry to hear all of your experiences, it must leave you feeling very bitter. My story is the other side of the coin, routine mammogram and then biopsy, went to see surgeon for results and was waiting hours and hours, it turned out results had come back negative but he had queried them with lab and insisted all samples taken were checked as he didn't believe the negative result given the x rays he had seen - came back low and intermediate grade DCIS - I feel very lucky to have got a surgeon worth his salt!!!!! ... It really is sooo confusing! I was told I had microcalcifications but was given a leaflet on DCIS, biopsy showed low to intermediate grade, I've had WLE and get my pathology results next Tuesday. The more I read, the more confused I get, some information says pre-cancerous, some says early cancer. I'm thinking of taking part in the research being carried out by Suman Prinjha (another topic on the DCIS forum) and have been on the Dipex website which has videos of real people talking about their experiences of DCIS and am still confused. I've read that DCIS sometimes doesn't become full blown cancer but there is no way of telling so treatment is always surgery. ... View more

Hi Sue, I'm 51 too, what area are you from? Sorry you having a tough time financially, you have enough to cope with! I know what it's like, got made redundant last September after 17 years with the company and decided to do a home study course to try and get a qualification that enables me to work from home - I am main carer for my elderly mother and also have two dogs that I don't want to leave all day. My job was quite stressful and extremely busy, makes me wonder what I would have done if I hadn't lost it - have really not felt like studying never mind working. Get my results on Tuesday next week.
