Thankfully it turned out to be a cluster of cysts, nothing more sinister. We were very pleased with the speed of which the NHS got us from GP visit to Screening/Ultrasounds etc, less than a week!!

Hi all, Been reading some threads over the last few days and wanted to share my story as right now i’m Feeling a little helpless. I managed to persuade my fiancée to attend a GP appointment last week to get her breast checked, mainly for peace of mind but also because she’d had a couple of symptoms. Her right breast has become slightly larger than the left, not massively so but enough for us to notice when in bed etc. She’d also mentioned a few times that it was itchy and we have now felt a kind of ‘mass’ or lump fairly deep on the side of the breast. It can be quite hard to find at times but the GP did feel it and has referred her for a specialist appointment. The GP apparently said they felt it was a Fibroadenoma but after reading up on these it seems they are usually pretty well defined in shape, which hers isn’t. I’m worried he was just trying to give her ‘best case scenario.’ However having something hormone related wouldn’t surprise me as we’ve had x2 children in the last 4 years, and she breastfed both for quite some time. Technically she’s probably been either pregnant, breastfeeding or both for most of the last 5 years. That must hit your hormones pretty hard! Since stopping breastfeeding our youngest, she’s had extremely heavy periods which again must play havoc with hormone levels. (She’s had scans and blood test for this in the last few months and nothing sinister was found) My mother has had BC twice, the last episode was 10yrs ago, my partner’s Nan also had it many years ago too. Our 2yr old niece is also currently recovering from a children’s Cancer so we are feeling pretty well hard done by right now. I know statistically it’s not likely to be BC but I can’t help but worry. We’re due to marry in 11 weeks and we are both so scared right this minute that depending on the results we may have to postpone the big day etc. Do you think the pregnancy/breastfeeding/periods/hormones could have had an impact on things? For example, I swear the lump was larger when I felt it on Saturday than it was when I tried finding it this morning. (Of course, this could be in my head).
