Am still taking the letrozole, almost 4 years now, and don’t have any side effects I can attribute to the medication that I wouldn’t  have anyway with the general ageing process.  Have just had my yearly check up and the mammogram showed micro calcifications of dcis.  I’d already had a lumpectomy and ancillary nodes removed 4 years ago.  The stereotactic core biopsy was one of the most horrible and traumatic tests I’ve had through all this, the local anaesthetic just didn’t cut it for me.  Anyhoo, seeing the surgeon next week about my options, I know another lumpectomy will be offered, but I can’t be bothered again …. Princess Porpoise, Sorry to hear about your radiation burns.  I just wanted to share here in the hope it might help others, that I had 25 rounds of radiation and my research led me to treating the area after each round and throughout the day with first aloe vera and let it dry, then calendula cream with a few drops of lavender oil mixed in.  After 5 weeks of radiation treatment I had no burns, and I have very fair skin.  The treating staff were advising sorbolene creme, I’m glad I didn’t listen to them.   ... Zometa is similar to prolia and denosumab, possibly prescribed because it’s cheaper in the US, but prolia is available there, suggest you talk to your doctor about it’s availability.  It is also a 6 monthly dose while you’re on the hormone blockers.  For those aches, check out the feed on this site of letrozole users suggestions for managing this, magnesium seems to be the key supplement everyone agrees on.  Please don’t just listen to your doctor, I encourage you to do your own research, see a naturopath, a holistic GP, etc and see what works best for you, after all, you know your body better than anyone.   ... I’ve been taking letrozole for 2.5 years.  No side effects thanks to magnesium supps.  Initial BMD scan 2.5 years ago showed osteoporosis which was a shock.  I was determined to reverse this and have achieved this with regular jumping and skipping exercises while holding weights and, of course, regular calcium and D supps.  So osteoporosis is now back to osteopenia, which I’m stoked about.   ... i talked about the benefits of magnesium for me in here about 12 months ago, still going strong.  Magnesium supports the muscle aches, which eases the pressure in the joints.  What I've been using to rid of the joint pain is celery juice, at least a cup every morning on an empty stomach 30 min before breakfast.  Celery is an anti inflammatory wonder food, as joint pain is inflammation.  Acidic foods will inflame the body, so trying to alkaline it through the diet really helps.   ... I concur with Marla13, I'm post menopausal and have been taking letrozole 18 months.  I did have some aches for about 3 weeks about 12 months in, my doctor suggested I was possibly fighting an infection at that time, which makes sense.  My holistic GP has me on a high dose magnesium supplement, and no aches.  Celery juice every morning on an empty stomach acts as an inflammatory, as does cutting down on dairy and red meat. My biggest fear with letrozole is coming off them eventually.  My doctor reckons I don't have to stop after 5 years, but it's recommended.  I agree I will need to stop taking the letrzole, but does anyone else fear the oestrogen return? ... All a great start Marjie, let me know if you get any relief.   Ive recently had a win..... had my bone mineral density test last week, and the initial one 12 months ago reported osteoporosis in my spine.  I’ve exercised and changed my diet and it’s paid off, no longer have osteoporosis it’s reduced to osteopenia (& I’m still on n letrozole!) so glad for the small reward!  ... Marjie Have you sought advice from a holistic GP?  I had aches and pains until I decided to consult holistic practitioners. Also, I swear by a glass of freshly juiced celery juice on an empty stomach each morning.  Has changed my life and cleared up my arthritis too.  Increase your magnesium supps as will help to relax the joints.  Cut out all sugar, and cut down meat and dairy as they are acidic and inflames the joints.  Go alkaline as much as you can.     Don’t just rely on medical doctors, need a holistic approach,  seek alternative options to back up your meds.  Good luck.   ...
