I used a cream created by British radiologist Jasmin Jones. It doesn't have any of the ingredients you have to avoid and it's vegan friendly. Although it's a bit more expensive than I would usually spend, it was so worth it. Soothing, hydrating and it did it's job so well.

Like most of us I was not looking forward to my lumpectomy on 22nd Dec last year. However, when operations we're being cancelled due to rising COVID rates, it made me realise how much more scary it would be if it didn't go ahead. Then our surgeon (there were 3 of us waiting in the same area) was 90 minutes late and we were all desperate ours went ahead. The operation & coming around from the anaesthetic took us all about 90 minutes. We had to have something to drink & a little to eat before we were discharged, but as it has been nil by mouth that day, it was very welcome. I had a few minor issues about a week later, but they were quickly sorted when I contacted the BC unit. I still have my fearful moments, but I'm positive about the future.

I used Bio oil before starting RT and found it very effective. I finished my Radiotherapy in August and my skin wasn't too bad, but with some burning & itching. I want to recommend the cream developed by UK radiographer Jasmin Jones. It doesn't contain any of the ingredients we are told to avoid, is vegan friendly and is so good. It's not too light or heavy and soothes my skin so well. I'm so glad I treat myself to it.

My husband volunteers at the local Citizen's Advice Bureau and although he never discusses individual cases, what he has impressed upon me is that everyone situation is different even if they appear similar and it's very important on how you fill in the forms. Hi, I started taking Anastrozole at the beginning of August and I have been fine. I did have a bit of stiffness in my lower back at first but I started doing 20 minutes of yoga a couple of times a week and now it's OK.

Hi, I was diagnosed with HER2 positive and ER positive BC last November. I had a lumpectomy, then 12 weekly sessions of Paclitaxel. At the same time I started 3 weekly injections of Herceptin which lasted for 6 months. I started losing my hair after 3 weeks, so I shaved it off. Otherwise, I had mainly mild symptoms and could carry on pretty much as normal, although I did get mild neuropathy in my hands & feet after 10 weeks of chemo. I then had 5 daily sessions of radiotherapy. I am now on Anastrozole for 5 years. Luckily, again only mild symptoms with both. I was happy to follow my consultants advice, but researched the treatments and was happy that all the large scale studies showed the evidence for it.

Hi, Last October, before I was diagnosed with BC in November, my GP recommended I start on a statin because my cholesterol level was 6.8. I'd had a few years of my risk being scored and due to my good cholesterol levels I hadn't needed to take statins. I think she was quite surprised I didn't have any objections, but my grandmother died of a heart attack at 63 and my Mum was diagnosed with Angina & high cholesterol at 51. My Mum started taking statins then. She's now 86 and well. So I started on a statin last October, I haven't had any side effects & my cholesterol level is 4.6. I started Anastrozole in August. Hope this helps you decide.

Hi, I had 5 sessions of RT therapy which ended on 1st August. It followed a lumpectomy & chemotherapy. Whilst my fatigue has been mild, I have been getting the stabbing pain, especially if l've done a lot of small repetitive movements, such as ironing. I saw my consultant a couple of weeks ago and I mentioned it. He examined me and said it was most likely to be a bit of inflammation. I find a warm bath helps to stop it. I hope your symptoms improve soon.

Hi, Just tell people if you're feeling tired. My husband is great if I say so, but although I could carry on pretty much as usual (I'm an active retiree of 62) I don't have the stamina I did. So I sometimes end up having a short nap in the evening. I'm trying to build up my fitness but sometimes your mind is ahead of your body. I had 5 RT sessions which finished on 1st Aug, but after spending about 30mins in the pool whilst on holiday at the end of August my boob was so sore. My cream created by a UK radiographer Jasmin Jones soon sorted that though. I'd recommend it. I'll try swimming again in about a month. I sometimes get a pain around my lumpectomy site if I do too much, like ironing, but at my last consultation my consultant was happy that it's just a bit of inflammation, so a great reason to not do the ironing! RT was the last of my treatment (apart from 5 years of Anastrozole) after a lumpectomy then chemotherapy and I felt a bit mentally flat afterwards but I feel OK now.

I don't have experience of this, but my consultant told me that having chemotherapy (Paclitaxel in my case) alongside the hormone blocker Herceptin doubled the effectiveness of the Herceptin. Also, that this had only become apparent from results of trials that completed in the last 2 years. I know it doesn't answer your question but I thought it might be useful piece of information.

Hi loobyloop, Generally I found they didn't get worse, although I did get hand/foot syndrome after my 10th session. I posted ' Paclitaxel - luckily mostly mild side effects for me' in May & another person being treated with also added her experience. I hope they don't get worse for you.

I tested positive for Covid yesterday morning and reported on the Government website. I then received a text saying I would be contacted within 24 hours. 25 hours later a Triage Nurse rang me and after discussing my treatment & medication said she would put me forward as most probably being eligible for the anti-viral medication. About 5 hours later a local health trust doctor rang me to discuss my treatment, medication & Covid symptoms and said she would prescribe me the anti-viral medication. The hospital pharmacy then rang me to advise how to take them etc and my Covid negative husband has just gone to collect them. So about 32 hours from start to finish. Hopefully, the process will work as well for anyone else needing them.

Hi, I've had uncomfortable bloating for years. Pre BC it was bread made with yeast (I'm OK with flatbreads) & stress that triggered it. I found Keffir helped a lot. Having just finished chemo, I find it it still helps. It doesn't stop it, but makes it bearable. I usually have it in my yogurt, fruit & porridge breakfast. Make sure you buy it from a reputable company.

I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Grade 3 breast cancer in November 2021. It was HER2-positive & ER-positive. My lymph nodes were clear. I had a lumpectomy just before Christmas & started chemo in early March on Paclitaxel as my consultant told me it doubled the effectiveness of the Herceptin. I had it weekly for 12 weeks with Herceptin every 3 weeks in the same session. I had my last chemo yesterday. I wanted to share my experience of having this type of chemo for newbies about to start the same treatment. I know I was lucky with my experience. By far the worst symptom was losing my hair. It started to come out in handfuls a couple of days after my third session. It was upsetting each morning, so I shaved it off which I found was much better than the daily upset. Luckily I had bought hats & wigs from a local breast cancer charity beforehand. Apart from that symptom I have had constipation (sorted out by Senna tablets), minor mouth ulcers (sorted out by a mouth wash given to me by the Oncology unit) and some fatigue. I usually fell asleep in the evening after my chemo session but I found I could do as much as normal on the other days even if I needed a nap on a couple days. I would consider myself as an active retiree. I walked most days for 45-75 minutes and usually did a Rambler's walk of 7-9 miles each week. A few days after my 10th session I developed tenderness in my feet and a couple of fingers and thumb. I could still walk but more at a plod pace & not so far. I don't know if it's a coincidence but the week before I hadn't walked much. I found walking again, although a bit painful at first, reduced the tenderness afterwards and my feet and are nearly back to normal now. I recommend walking barefoot on a smooth beach, it was bliss. So that's how it was for me. I kept thinking I'll carry much as normal whilst I can (obviously being cautious about food & socialising). I was expecting not to be able to do so later in my treatment, but it never came. Next radiotherapy! Fingers crossed.
