Good morning all i hope you are all safe and well, I have taken my mum back to see the breast cancer consultant and he has told her that her latest scan shows that there is now a shadow on the lung that wasn’t there before, we have now got an appointment at oncology to discuss palliative care, they did mention that she would be offered one blast of radiotherapy to try to prevent the breast tumour breaking through the skin. In the meantime she has suffered a fractured vertebrae and is currently on oxycodone, 10ml every 4 hours, and all she is doing is sleeping, she is in a fair bit of pain but said to me last night that she’s had enough now 😢 I feel like she has just checked out (if that makes sense) I’m hoping that when we go to oncology they give her a bit of a lift xx

Hi Debbiere thank you for reaching out, I am trying to be as positive as I can and I try to make her laugh every day, I make sure she’s sees her great grandson every week, just little things to try and give her a boost we has to go back to the hospital yesterday to see her breast consultant, he has said that he has ordered an urgent CT scan from head to toe to see if it has spread to other areas as her lymph nodes are enlarged and abnormal which he said means it could have spread elsewhere and they can’t come up with a proper plan of action until they have the whole picture. She seems a lot happier herself with this decision as she said herself that she will have all her questions answered with the outcome of this. lesley x

Hi Charys thank you so much for coming back to me, yes you are right in what you are saying, it is really difficult at the minute as she is the one who is accepting of things and realises that this is now just to extend her life but as she doesn’t/can’t do that much due to her condition I have a feeling she will refuse even radiotherapy, it is me who is probably not accepting and trying to encourage her to continue to try everything, probably me being selfish but you are right I feel now that I have to be supportive of her decision. We are due back at the hospital on the 5th of September to see what the outcome of the meeting was, I will keep you updated and once again thank you for coming back to me Kind regards lesley x

Hi, so I really hope someone can help as I don’t know how to support my mum at the minute, she is 81 and was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, since then she has tried 2 hormone blocker tablets, she can’t have a mastectomy as she has severe emphysema, the medication is not working and her tumour now measures 55mm, we don’t know if the cancer has gone to her lymph nodes as they couldn’t do a biopsy on them, they are having a meeting this week to decide whether to give her radiotherapy but have also said it won’t get rid of the cancer, it will only reduce it and then it will come back, she has almost given up and I don’t know what to tell her to help, I am trying to encourage her to try everything but she just says “what’s the point “ she can’t get out and about that much due to how bad her breathing is so doesn’t care any more, am I right to tell her that everything will be and encourage her or is the dr right in saying it will just grow back? many thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me Lesley x
