Hi Mobil Yes I know I posted an earlier reply but what a response, it's a shame all those people out there who don't quite get it can't read all the replies! If I could count the number of times there has been the same old "so you have had the all clear then" or "didn't you feel like putting make up on today", I could have throttled them! I just put it down to ignorance and would much rather they said nothing and let us be. This disease tests us all but when you go on the forums,you realise just how strong and united we are so we just need to educate those who come out with idiotic statements. Hi Mobil Sorry that you have had a tough time of it, people can be such a pain sometimes. it's normal for this to happen as they just want to hear that everything is okay with you and expect you to smile permantly! Speaking from experience (mx march 06 and recon immediate) I am 52 and was diagnosed at 47, there were a few who thought I was "vain" having recon at my age but it's your call, you stay strong and do what is right for you, stay as positive as you can be and don't let anyone make you feel you are doing the wrong thing. Hi Jane What a brilliant comment you have posted, it made me realise that what I am feeling is normal! I was told that I was BRCA 2 at Xmas 08 and was devastated at the time (still am a bit really if I'm honest) I thought that I was doing okay following Bc/mastectomy/reconstruction in 06 and removal of ovaries in 07 plus other minor ops but then this happened. My surgeon said "you have opened Pandora's box", it doesn't sound too bad put like that but its the thought of more surgery, coward as I am. I admire you for going through with the surgery, I can't quite get there as yet but know that it is a far more sensible/life saving option for me.I wish you well, its good that we can share our experiences, thankyou Shopaholic x ... Hi Ness I had ovaries out with keyhole last yr and did have some pain but it was mainly around my navel. Its hard to not worry but I am sure that the clinic will be really supportive, my bc was in 2006 and I still think what's this if I get an ache or something I think is different. Hi all I got the lymphodema some 9 mths after surgery and have been lucky to have brill nurse at our local hospice who does her very best. Now have sleeves thru my gp and altho they are good its still a pain, went to neuro for something completely different and the consultant prescribed patches to try and block the discomfort, won't know how effective they are for about a month but I'm willing to try anything! you can cut the patch to size and they are worn for 12 hrs at a time. Not sure if this is any help but the side effects seem to be miminal, for me anyway!! take care x ... View more

Hi back again! Just had results of genetic test and have found out I am braca 2. I'm not sure how I feel but have an appointment towards the end of the month to discuss further. I don't know if I feel relief that the waiting is over although its only been 6 months so I guess that's not long. I also feel a bit scared and concerned for my three sons, Is this overeacting to the news or normal! ... View more

Hi Mandy & S What we girls go through! In answer to Mandy sometimes that feeling can last a while and its pretty weird, I had all my nodes removed but i think it just happens that you sometimes end up with that feeling. its pretty strange and can be uncomfortable, have they told you to use any non perfumed creams to try and ease it? Hi Ruby Sorry you are the same but its so frustrating cos people say to you "well its numb so how can you feel it". i have tried various creams of the non perfumed variety and its not made a difference, do you still attend a lymphoedema clinic? my nurse is okay but i dont think she really believes its there! Hi I had mx and recon march 06 after lobular stage 1 and 2 tumours in breast showed up, i have been told that i can have the other breast removed within the time of my care programme (8 yrs to go). i am wating for genetic testing to be completed and i know that this will play a major part in making my mind up for me, its a tough call but some people feel that why wait to see if it returns and better to take the necessary steps before it does. I know that for me it will be weird as my recon has not worked out and will be removed in about a year so i have gone from flat to inflated and back to flat, my breasts are important to me but peace of mind is too, surgeons do have a bit of an issue and seem to think that you cannot be feminine without them which for some women is rubbish I know that since being diagnosed i have learnt to fight my corner and despite having to nag my surgeon for over two years he is finallly realising that yes this is my body and if i get it wrong then okay its my call,everyone is different and its a huge decision but no-one should be made to feel like they are wrong . I have never been away from the doctors since march but they are there to support you, hang on in there lynn and make sure you have someone with you when you go to gp/clinic take care Debs x ... Hi Anne Thanks for that its reassuring to know that u have been there and are okay with it, I am only a B cup so it shouldn't be too much of a shock, like you didn't want to go any further! Still got to wait a while but at least when it happens I will be prepared for it.I will be about three and half years when they get round to it so pretty similar. I know that if my brac 1 & 2 test comes back positive I will have the other breast removed but no reconstruction thanks. Debs x ... View more
