Lucy Hi! I had a lumpectomy - or WLE - on 29 December. My lump was 15mm by 10mm. I had a couple of lymph nodes taken too. I have a 2" scar under my arm where they took the nodes, which is just a red line. On my breast I have a curved scar about 3" long. You can still see the stitch marks but it is smooth and flat. In the right light you can see the shape is SLIGHTLY different but frankly it is hard to see. So to reasure you, mine really isnt bad at all. We are all different of course. Before my op I asked my consultant what he would do with the hole and he smiled at me. There wont be one he said. I didnt believe him - I have small boobs anyway and not much spare to lose if you see what I mean. When he removed the dressings a week after the op he was very amused at my reaction, even at that stage covered in bruises it looked fine. Hope this helps Di xx ... View more

So pleased it is not just me feeling its freaky! Tattoos didnt hurt at all and are REALLY tiny, I did ask it I could have a flower but they wouldn't...only dots sadly! Certainly no where near as bad as a canula and far far less horrid than the biopsies were! My Oncologist said I could start Tamoxifen whenever I like, so I have an appointment with my GP for a prescruiption next week. Funny how policies differ isnt it? One thing I was happy about was that they said I could swim throughtout the treatment so long as I didnt stay in tooo long showered immediately and put on lots of cream. That really pleased me! Hi everyone Can I join in here? I was diagnosed on 10 December. Had a WLE on 29 December and start rads on 3 February (15 of them). I am also starting Tamoxifen. Had my planning meeting on Tuesday and it was ok, everyone was really nice, it was just a bit freaky having to go to the cancer centre. Yes I know I know I have got cancer but - well anyway...... So about me...2 kids (boys 16 and 13), an other half who has been supportive, demanding job. Had a hysrectomy 18 months ago and was so happy with my hormone implant...am now looking forward to my hot flushes (not)!! Anyone else having rads in Coventry? Di ... View more

Hi Romana I was diagnosed only a week or so ago, I agree it is a horrid, worrying time. There are some lovely women on here though who give loads of support. I have been told (and told and told...) one step at a time........but it is so hard, I want to know NOW what is going to happen, I can prepare for what I know about but not if I don't know. Gennie your post made me smile! The thought of several tearful women walking down the yellow brick road..I'm off to the shops to buy my sparkly shoes. I too am NEVER ill. Never off work. Good news, there was nothing in the other area so am booked in for wide local excision a week on Monday along with removal of some lymph nodes...then at least rads, maybe more. So no mastectomy for the moment. Bad news is I definitely have to stop my HRT (had hysterectomy and BSO last year) so menopause here i come. thanks to everyone for your supportive comments. Hi Had more biopsies today, this time mammogram assisted ones. Feel a bit shaky to be honest, it wasn't nice at all. Get the results tomorrow evening. Its the waiting game.......aghhhhhhh Di x ... View more

Hi Jane We can do this. We will do this. Other women on this site will help but we will get through it. I am at a dubious advantage...I had a hysterectomy 18 months ago so I have had major surgery and recovery...and amazing support from other women going through the same (and who have gone thorugh the same). Hi Jane I was diagnosed last week too. I still need a further biopsy before they decide whether I am having a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. And yes I agree with you it is a whole new language to learn!
