Hi car and mole
sorry no answers
I too am having problems with drainage and infections.
I had mx on 6th April had to stay in hospital until 16th when drains were finally taken out. but on their removal it was noted thatarea was infected, so first course of anti biotics, load of gunk comming out of drain wound and next day bad pains and swelling, was readmitted to ward on 17th iv anti biotics on morning of the 18th drain site erupted and with stuff going over bed, wall and floor. then followed 4 periods of asperations. before being went home with a different anti biotic. district nurse attended every day to change dressing and I had to "milk" gurggling wound site. then saw surgeon, who has no people skills and whom is not "good". who then decieded to reopen the wound. then came a week of daily packing of wound with gauze, at my last appointment he decieded to stop packing the wound and I am now left with a stoma bag over the wound that continues to collect all the nasties, at least this is water proof which means I can at least bath. I thought I was the only one this was happening too and it felt like a very lonely place. with all this happening I feel I have been unable to get on with adjusting to the loss of my breast and recovery, I am fortunate in that I had my chemo prior to surgery and my nodes were clear so proberly wont need rads. but I would really love to see an end to this.
sorry to have gone on
best wishes to all

Hi ladies hope everyone is well
Great news daisy, you go girl.
Great to hear your hair is comming back quickly Helen, mine is about 1.5 inches and is curly has hell, cant do a thing with it. glad the end is in sight. ready to enjoy the summer.
Lily, I dont understand about markers but that sounds good. daisy has got right idea, ring someone up and moan about waiting for results, there should be no need for waiting that long.
sharon 2 hope you are well, noticed your post on night sweats, I am on tamoxifen and suffer greatly with them at least every hour having to change bed and night clothes, have been sleeping in spare room so not to disturbe everyone, cold drink and fannel as well as open window and throwing covers off immediadtly it starts helps reduce duration but have seen on other postings that another drug, and I cant find my notes on it, but I think it begins with N, it is the same as Tamoxifen but is slow release has been very helpful in stopping night sweats but appearntly it is more expensive, mention it to onc.
Tracey how did move go?
just to let everyone know I went to my appointment on Thursday and bcn actually spoke to me. great news my cancer was grade and stage two and all 11 nodes removedd were clear, so no more chemo and I think no RADs. I got appointment for onc in July which bcn said is rediculas and she will bring forward. unfortunatly my wound drama continues, I am now on my third course of anti biotics and now surgeon decieded that packing no longer required but now I have a stoma bag fitted to my chest which I have to empty n a regular basis and chest is now gurggling again. oh what fun . but at least it is water proof so I can now bathe which is utter joy.
Julie hope mouth and bum situation resolves soon. get your scarfes on and shake your stuff even if one is a bit stiff,
thanks to all

Julie and Daisy you sound as if you have got this chemo thing sussed. as I have mentioned before I had my treatment arese about face, and finshed chemo last year, I am now dealing with the thick curly mop that resists any comb or lotions?
unfortunatly my wound saga continues, I went back to hospital on Thursday, surgeon was usual arsey self and did not gie me any full report on my path but did say that my lyth glades were clear, which is great news. and I dont feel so paranoid about feelings about my surgeon,as every nurse both on the wards and in community think he is obnoxous and unprochable . anyway he finally paid some attention to my wound. firstly asperating some fluid and saying that it did not look right, he then suggested that he reopen the wound and he would fit a stoma bag to the area, he evevtually settled on reopening the wound and getting the nurse to irragate may chest, this went on for over an hour and then I was packed with 5 packs of ribbon gauze and imformed that the district nurses wounld be doing this on a daily basis for another week and he would see me next thursday, well great I noe have an open wound packed with alsorts and that will be dragged out every day so I have no idea when this will end. the most upsetting thing was bc decieded there was no need to see me at the appointment so again I am left with no real clue what is happening to me. ust wish it could be all over as I still have had no space to contmplate the loss of my breast and I am sure that will come. I am feeling better in myself so I must be getting on top of the infection I hope it is up hill from here my living room is looking like a theater room with 4 carriers of dressings ect
well enough moaning hope all remain well and hope to meet up soon
Love Sharon bas

Hi all, oh what fun I have had, last night pressure pad bulging and dripping down my back I had to change, could not wait for Monday, today same thing, took sometime between changing dressing to apply pressure on top of wound and gently apply pressure underneath resulting in resulting in extracting a fair amount of fluid from drain site before padding back up a bit like milking a cow, needed another pair of hands though, unfortunately husband has chosen not to view the damage as yet so had to hold pads in place before calling him to help tape me up. but generally a fair day I have not eaten much just don't feel hungry, but have manage some wine and a beer. this is mainly because mother in law is staying and husband has managed to excuse himself for most of the day, therefore just her and me she ended up saying " Sharon I feel so lost amd dont know what i should do" I bit my lip and ended up taking her out for a walk. kids back to school tomorrow, my 11 year old has been avoiding me like the plaugue I expect it will be a relief for him, so I will be left with mother in law all day., I plan to sleep most of it if possible.
Lisa I did not get my first Wig appointment until after I was bauld, which was not much use, however got two nice wigs which however I have never worn. my surgeon is crap and has not looked at my wounds or the extenive brusing at al, only saw bc three times in hospital and not expecting her to ring until Tuesday I am adding my complaints as I go andhope to express them on thurday's appointment. However for those for you awaiting op I have to say the lady in the bed next to me also had a mastectomy, although she had previously had lumpectomy and nodes reoved, we both had op on monday and she trotted home happily on the Thursay, so please dont feel disheartened. Its just me and my bad luck. Lisa glad you are out there and enjoying yourself, Julie and pauline hope all goes well and Julie hope you are immune. Lisa get the hair off and a bit of colout to the head or you may end up with this billient white spot on top if you ever decide to go ohnatural.

Hi too all ladies
just posting to let you know I am still alive especiall to Lisa and susaaneA.
well I went and done it. I am now offically lacking a mammary, a one tit wonder and walking lopsided. but unluckerly loads went wrong, dontt worry those awaiting ops I have been told that I have been particulary unforunate.
If you remember my op was on the 6th April, after lots of morphine, therefore sickness, I thought I was begining to recover but a couple of hours later I deteriorated, they could not get a ready on my BP and then I went into cardiac distress, I had six people working on me at one time and this went on for six hours had to have two blood transfusions as well. well I felt better the next day, and by the third day had tried to get myself moving exericeas and all, however the bain of the drains, my bloody things were full sometimes twice a day, in the end they kept me in for 11 days and although they were still draining plaenty they took them out on thursday 16th only to find a load of pus, nice eh. surgeon gave me antibiotics and sent me home, had a fairly comfortable night however next day was in a lot of pain with area very swollen, went to gp's who sent me straight back to hospital, without going into to many details they kept me in and after various jabs and iv antibiotics an abscess burst in my drain wound covering the bed , I can not tell you of the relieve, they then went on to aspirate on three more separte occasions, they also found out my infection was not responsive to penisillin so got different antibiotics, chest area filled up again but i came home with a pressure dressing on, currently in doors with my chest sloshing about like a old water bottle but feel much better, worried with all this fliud I might be affect by the tides, any way got district nurse to look forward too on Monday. hope it is up hill from here. glad you are doing so well after chemo Lisa and hope you have sorted your head wear and enjoying your your spells away
sorry to go on , but must be feeling better had a couple of glasses of wine tonight.

just to let know my latest, went to the doctors yesterday and sent back to the ward I left just over 24 hours ago, got there at 5.30pm I was admitted to the ward at 11 pm doctor eventually came to see me at 3am. morphine and anti sickness drugs pumped into me and drip of anti biotics put up at 6.30am by 7.30 my side had errupted as an undetcted abscess burst in my drain site. then came a period of asperaton when the surgeon on call announced I would have to go back to theater. luckerly another surgeon came down and was successful in getting out another 400mls they then put on a pressure dressing, well I was eventuall let home with much of my instance with different lot of antibiotics as they now know my infection is penicillin restistant, but my wound site has filled up with liquid again and is sloshing like a hot water bottle, very disconcerting but ai least I am in less pain now, also got the district nurses comming on Monday . So I am back home now and be darned if I am going back to hospital before my out patients appointment on the 23rd. had first glass of wine tonight must be feeling better.
thank you for letting my rave hope to see you all soon

good luck to you daisy, hope fry up was all it should be. I could not do with all the shedding and bauld spots so I shaved the head pretty early, but that suited me. hope mother in law not to troublseome.
thanks for all your comments, as you may have guessed I came out of hospital last night. things still not good, drains remained in for 11 days but after nine bc decided to leave them in but de vacced because one of the drains was sucking on a nerve in my chest wall causing immense pain. Surgeon had still managed not to look at my wound, when drains came out yesterday nurses were very concerned as drains were followed by large amounts of pus , sorry if anyone was eating,. I was trotted over too breast clinic to see surgeon Who confirm wide spread infection was given anti biotics and let home. now area all swollen wounds still oozing and redness tracking down my side. tried to get a doctors appointment but now have to wait until 4pm to see if I can get an emergency appointment, hope I can needs some reassurence, not due back to hospital until 23rd and I dont think I can wait that long, generally feeling very sick and constipated oh joy
good to hear from you Julie hope thrush and your digestive system settle down soon. you should be taking it more easy.
hope everyone else is well

Hi just dropping in quickly
Joined the ranks of one tit wonders on monday, everything went wrong, that night my blood pressure dropped so low that it could not be registered and I went in to cardiac distress, ended up having two blood transfusions , 4 units, had two doctors working on my all night with so many tubes, very frightening Surgeon attended ward twice after no word of explanation or reassurence did not examin my only my drains before pronouncing I could not be discharged until next monday, I have managed to fill 12 drainage bottles and 5 days post op I am still draining 400mls per day oh joy, as well as drains and bloody scar were once was pert boob, my chest stomach and remaining boob are currantly black.
I am able to post today because staff have taken pity on me and granted me 6 hours home leave, bloody state of the place I wish I had stayed at hospital, not only have I made my own dinner and done my own washing as well, happy to get that off my black, swollen chest hope to be home permently soon

Hello everyone, thank you all for your kind comments and hope Lily sharon2 and tracey enjoyed your meal.
well I have gone and done it, I am offically lacking a mammary, a one tit wonder, been under the knife and walking lopsided.
as is the story of my life, things never straight forward and a few hours after my op, they could not get a blood pressure reading and I went into cardiac distress, ended up having two blood transfusionss and 4 units of blood ,had two doctors and 4 nurses working on me all night. no one as given me any explaination for any of this, the up shot is I am still in hospital and I am currantly filling up vac bottles 11 and 12 , still loosing over 400mls per day, I am writing this, as I got so upset during the week when the other lady who had a mastectomy swanned off home, staff conceeded to allow me some home leave today for a few hours but have too be back before 6pm. dont know when I will be let out. I am horrified at the state of my body. the wound and drains were never going to look good but I have severe brusing from just below my chin to mid torso. large areas of brusing on my stomach and my remaining boob is now black. staff said thay have never seen anything like it. But they have got know answers, last saw surgeon on thurday morning he did not look at my wound only at drainage bottles and said oh your in until Monday, however there has been no let up on the drainage front and he wont be available until after hols so I dont know what will happen, sort of regretting comming home the place not exactly as spikand span as I would like it, nothing special in for my tea and the buggers had aq BBQ last last night, I am speechless, well thanks for op to rant I am off to make myself somthing to eat before gathering some more clothes together and back off to the hospital
