Wendy was such a special person - as Theresa says, on meeting her, her warmth enveloped you. She was completely besotted with her little boy and her husband and was very rich in love - a millionaire. Right up to the end of her life she was concerned and loving towards her friends and sparing in her comments about her own condition. She faced her death in a way that has been awe inspiring. We'll miss her terribly, but we really are richer for having known her. Sleep well Wendy, and God bless xxxx

All I would say is having cancer doesn't need to change who you are, and you no doubt knew how to get what you wanted through life by asking or stating your preferences in a straightforward way. Using cancer to manipulate others might be a lighthearted way of dealing with it, but beware the fact that what you write here is open to any interpretation by the media or anyone else, and yes, some of our benefit situations are under threat, and yes, stories abound in the media about how we could have avoided bc, and we just need to be aware of that. Its about not giving the people who would use it, a stick to beat you with. might be paranoid, but we keep seeing it happen....

It wasn't so much the guardian angel I was scared of - it was my mother - the avenging angel!!! And the nuns at school - they scared the hell out of me. I have fallen off the non smoking wagon recently and was walking past the convent about a week ago (I live very close to it) and sister Aelred came out so I chucked the fag I was smoking into a garden. Then I had to go back and check I hadn't started a fire. And the guilt of smoking - bl**dy hell! It appeals to my adolescent rebellious self - the bit thats got me through all the sh*t of the past few years. But I have to say I was at my non smoking, healthy living best both times I was dx'd so I can't blame that. So I'll just sit beside the guilty bench, and lean my back on it.
Thanks for the newspapers, but not tabloids please cos I HATE them and I'd have to move to the angry bench! I could light up and set fire to them, but I don't suppose we could have the burning bench....

Wow, wish I'd found this earlier - can we have a new bench called 'I don't even post cos my thoughts aren't worth sharing'?
I have lost my marbles courtesy of bc/treatment/depressive reaction to it - don't even know any more.
And guilt - oh sh*t don't get me started.... I'm a catholic too. My family is bored by the whole thing (sibs not OH and kids) so I don't burden them with it nowadays - am 2 years post second dx (recurrence)so really have had time to get over the nuisance that is bc. Brother called it an 'irritation' I could have hit him with a big stick but the guilt would have doubled!
Don't expect a response as my post seem to end most threads I contribute to. Add a 'paranoid that I'm tedious about it' bench - if no one else is on it I'll lie down and have a kip. Add chronic fatigue to the loss of marbles.

Hi, my BCN just printed mine out when I asked for it, no problems. Sorry it seems harder in other places - but its not nosy or inquisitive to want info about your own body and your own illness. I know not everyone wants it, but many of us reach a stage where we want all the info they have. Seems reasonable to me - why the resistance?

I'm a few months into aromasin and have dodgy knuckles on my fingers and some general aches and pains, but feel its worth it. The joint probs started very quickly so I have assumed that its worked pretty quickly. Also had oophorectomy 15 months ago and flushes have stopped in the last few weeks.
I too am a recurrent primary rather than having secondaries and am 100% oestrogen receptive.

first rules for me are work with your body and your instincts (gut) and be kind to yourself - ask yourself what you would say to your best friend in these circumstances, thats a pretty good indicator, I think.
If it continues, you can get access to counselling/psychology service and thats a big help. Mine was accessed via bcn and has been more help than I can say.

yes my hair also started to grow after FEC number 4, black and curly - it had previously been fine, straight and fair. After 18 months its now dark brown straight and thicker than what I started out with. A lot of us seem to get something different to what we lost, but I think many of us just enjoy what comes. I just wanted to add my good wishes - I think Revcat put things beautifully.
All I can add is that I was with my mum when she died and I know for sure she is alright now.
You might feel helpless at this point, but there is so much you can do for your mum to help her to feel OK about leaving you.
As others have said, 61 is far too young

J, that was so well summed up. my second dx was 12 years on and while it brought back all the fears, I am settling back down (most days) to enjoying the humdrum of life.
I hope you soon reach a time when the fears are overtaken by ordinary life.

I know gabapentin isn't without issues, and SEs list is a worry, but I know its used in pain clinics and its been the one thing thats got rid of headaches which really had me laid low, so I have to go with it.
it's a bummer that we have to take stuff that messes with so much of our brains and bodies but can only work through it and try and get our lives (tho different) back.
Chalee, hope your managers wise up, are there ways you can adapt your work? xx

its many years since I stopped breastfeeding my youngest, but remember the sense of loss when she weaned herself early. I can't imagine how you are feeling - you must have so many layers of anxiety.
All i can do is send love and hope you recover quickly. There will be things you can do to keep up your closeness and care for them, but I'm sure that friends and family will be very happy to help in practical ways - remember, its good for people who love you to be able to DO something.
