its just been on gmtv that from today cancer patients can apply for these free things,does anybody know if its everybody or just depends on stage of your cancer etc.Its not just the cancer drugs you will get free,its any prescription they said on the news. ... View more

just read that marge,it seems like not every cancer patient is going to get free prescriptions.oh, burst my bubble then..thought i was going to save some money,I had an arguement a while back with someone whose sister is on methadone,which in my eyes is a self induced addiction,where as those of us who have or had cancer have to pay....of course she got the methadone free as she was not working,makes me laugh the rules in this country. ... i was scared in bury st edmunds too ,thats why i have moved back home,doctors r crap down there,was only there a yr but thank god i am not there anymore,hubby in forces thats y i was there ,gone back to normal life ,normal docs etc,but i was under west suffolk and it was rubbish.......sorry guys............... ... hiya,I was told by the breast nurses that you dont need mammograms on recons,i recently found a lump in mine(tram flap) and had an ultrasound on it.other people will prob know more than me on this as they do on everything else I comment about,your best thing is to ask breast nurse yourself. regards debbi. x ... hi fuzzyface,I had acupuncture for pain after my mastectomy for a few weeks,she NEVER put any in my affected arm,thats not right,find a different acupuncturist,mine was based in a special cancer centre.She was brilliant,and as for the hot flushes she said she could give it me for this too,but i declined as didnt think they were to bad to cope with,but i do know they put the needles in your legs for this,it was painless for me and really helped me at that time. ... I had cancer on the left and I chose to have my 'healthy breast ' on the right removed as at the time i was undergoing genetic tests(still am), and the genetisist said by having it removed would reduce my risk by 90%.I was not going to let the fear of another op put me off,I gladly let them take it away a yr after my first op,and have never regretted it,and even before the op I found out I didnt carry the main 2 genes,but still wanted the op.So had right mastectomy,and tram flap recon at the same time and I think if i had kept my healthy boob it would not have matched my recon at all,so overall i am glad I had it took away.I do understand what your saying cathy,but when someone is telling me it will greatly reduce my risk i am not going to ignore it.Now I just need to worry were else the cancer might be..............in yrs to come. ... I am supposed to be having this op too,but for now have asked to continue with the zoladex as I dont like the sound of the long term effects of losing your ovaries.I am only 40,would like to feel normal for a bit in 3 yrs when stop having it,been having it just over 2 now,but when I spoke to the surgeon he basically said unless its absolutely neccessary its better at my age to keep them,the change of heart also comes with being told I may not be as at higher risk as they first thought at initial dx so I think its one less op and like I said ,to feel normal,whatever normal is,I have forgot,in 3 yrs time. I think if you have not discussed this properly with anyone you should do,as soon as you can,because right up to my app with that surgeon I was adamant I was having it done,now I am not so sure............................. ... I had fine hair on my tummy too,and yes,it is on the new boobs,but barely noticeable,and who sees them anyway,do u know what i mean,it doesnt make a difference to me. ... View more

there is a similar thread to this on current issues too,and I just had to comment on that too,Valda you confirmed exactly what I am getting at,the cost of one persons treatment alone,no matter what it is,is expensive and as the government dont fund everything,this has to be raised by other means.And like I just said,it doesnt matter what time of year it is,or if there is something sticking it under your nose,once you have had it,it is hard not to think of anything else,even when there is ned,we will always think about bc...........unfortunately,and this research is ongoing so that our grandchildrens children do not have to go through the same thing as many of us.and anything that is going to help my children and theirs not go through this,I am all for it........... ...
