For Orienne Hi Oriene, Lisa has just sent me a message on the other site www.phpbbserver.com/breastcancer/ (sign up, its great!) I had my op 5 weeks ago, and feel great, the relief is unbelievable. I was due to have my op with reconstruction last year but 2 days before they found i had a rare form of haemophilia! So after a lot of problems with scardy cat surgeons they were all frightened i would bleed to death on the operating table, my new Haemophilia consultant put me in touch with a wonderful surgeon who specialises in people like me with bleeding problems. Anyway it was decided that reconstruction is out of the question as the bleeding would be too difficult to control. After i weighed up the reasons, what else could i do? I wanted rid of my nasty boobs! i didnt want to find out in years to come that i had cancer! I am lucky i have a very supportive husband, who i think we forget about, it effects them too! I was more scared of bleeding to death then about my operation but when i woke up i just felt so happy and relieved. This is a very personal thing and only you can make the decision that is best for you. Take your time, it is a very scary time for you but you will get through this, i promise. I am now boobless but happy, i dont always wear my foam (temporary) boobs, but the bras available are now really good. If you pop onto the other site go onto the genetics link & we can send each other messages, there are a few women there in the same position, and they are all very supportive. Hi Lisa, if you are worried about the underware, then dont be, there are LOADS of lovely mastectomy bras out there. I had my preventitve double mastectomy 3 weeks ago and am amazed at some of the lovely bras around. Marks and Spencers now do a post op range, and are very affordable. You will come to terms with having the gene, i know when i found out i decided not to be negative but look at it in a positive manner. I kept thinking \"how many women have the chance to know that they are definatley at risk\", i am sure any woman would agree that if they had the chance to find out if the carried a faulty gene, they probably would. Take your time with any surgeons you meet, and find out all your options, and dont worry about asking to see a different surgeon for more surgery options, as no 2 surgeons agree on what is the best surgery procedure for you! I feel very relieved now its all over for me, having my breasts removed was the easiest decision of my life, i will sort out my ovaries and womb in a couple of years. Ashkenzi Jew Link? Hi i was told i has BRCA2 gene 2 years ago and have just undergone a peventitive double mastectomy. I found out last year that i also have a rare blood disorder called Factor XI (Haemophilia C) i have managed to have 2 children and never had a problem before! Anyway i have been told is was quite rare but was also told it was linked to the Ashkenzi Jewish population same as BRCA2 gene. I really dont understand how any of this as we are all red headed irsh decendants!!!!! or so i thought! haha So what i am really asking is if anyone else has had the same diagnosis of BRCA2 and then found to have Factor XI deficiancy?
