Hi Cecelia So glad you are feeling better. I find a haircut always helps. And great news about the potatoes. Another friend of mine was saying she has just harvested her first tomatoes of the year. Pretty sure it will be Harrison Ward tomorrow. I am not sure what time the op is but I have to get there for 7am, and the op takes about 6 hours or so, so I expect they will start in the morning. Eergh. They should know something on Harrison Ward by the evening I expect. They are really nice there so won't mind if you ring. Lunch yesterday was bliss. Hi Cecelia So glad the check up was good. Fingers firmly crossed they stay that way. I know what you mean about the heat, but at least it has cooled down a bit now. You may be more comfortable? I am fine. And yes back to the Royal London on Tuesday 9th. Not looking forward to it but at least I have had time to stock up the OH and generally get things sorted at home, which feels good. I'll be back on Harrison Ward to start with (which is the surgical high dependence ward) and then back to Helene Raphael as soon as I am well enough. No plans for intensive care thank god! I'll let you know by text how it goes and where I am as soon as I am able. OH's birthday tomorrow so my step daughter and family are coming over for a Pizza Express lunch! Looking forward to that. Dear All Haven't heard that for years Karen! We used to go on "and a hit and a kick for being so quick". Was that just a London thing? Of even a family thing? Hope everyone is well? I am fine - just still a bit painful in the stomach. And so pleased that I changed the operation date to next week! Could not have coped with going in last Tuesday. And I have had time to sort a lot of things out - plumbing (new loo, not me), the MOT, stocking up for the OH etc etc. Wonder if it will cool down a bit as forecast? Hi All And yes indeed it is lovely to be back! I missed you all on the thread though you were all so very lovely keeping in touch, on text and in person. I don't think I can ever tell you how much that meant to me. Just goes to show that real friendship comes out of the most unlikely situations! Cecelia - how is your cat doing? George is now used to his new look. And as I am still sleeping downstairs he spends his nights on my chest! He snores very very gently. And he is most comforting. Karen - sounds as if you have no time anyway for the art and keep fit classes. Lovely to be having such a social time. And if I could have some of your spare flesh, I would! I have to say that being this skinny is fairly disgusting. Oh and Rebecca you sound soooooo happy. Have a wonderful holiday and then you can come back to all the excitement of the wedding. I wish you so well. Will you still be living in the Barnet area? And promise you will send photos of the big day? Jo - bet you are still travelling? Or better, having a great school holiday with Rachie? I was at the hospital this afternoon and they want me in for the operation on 2 August - next Tuesday! That seemed very soon to me so I am waiting to see if they can swap me with someone on the following Tuesday. Fingers crossed. The nurse should ring back this afternoon I hope. I would like some time to get my head properly round it all really. He still thinks the cause of the blockage is malignant, but I am going to take it a step at a time. And go and have a glass or two of wine in a minute! I'll let you all know when I am back in hospital. Looks rather as if I am going to miss the wedding though - how sad is that? Dear All We are being quiet on here, aren't we? I know I am finding it more of an effort but the rest of you have no excuse whatsoever! Rebecca - how go the wedding plans? Karen - how are you doing without the Art classes? Jo - are you still travelling a lot? And Cecelia - what are you up to? I am fine. A bit up and down as I get days when I am just great,and then days when I have pain in the stomach. I think it is probably wind! But I now have no right hand drain which is a huge relief. I am seeing the surgeon tomorrow and will hopefully have a clear idea of when I am going back for the delightful Whipple procedure. I am really hoping that it does not interfere with my niece's wedding on 27th August. I am looking forward to buying a size 8 outfit which I will probably never fit into ever again! I have managed to get to 8 and a quarter stone by eating like a horse. What do you bet I overshoot and end up enormous? Otherwise life is fine. I am also feeding up my OH who is looking much better now he is eating again. Just hope he keeps it up when I am away again. George now looks like a mad poodle as we had to have his knots cut out, poor boy. He was very good and let the vet shave him in the surgery. I was dreading having to leave him there to be sedated! Dear All Thank you so much for all your care and good wishes. I feel quite overcome. It has been a rough period and not over yet but at least I am home for a while before I have to face going back to the hospital. Weak as a kitten at the moment, which quite surprised me as I thought I would at least be able to toddle to the shops! But not yet...... Can barely get up my own stairs and am sleeping downstairs still in case of needing the loo in a hurry! The lovely District nurses arrived today so I now have clean dressings and a flushed drain which feels better. I think otherwise I shall just take things as easy as I can. At least I can now feed my OH who got himself in such a state that he forgo to eat (aren't men daft sometimes?). Anyway enough of my woes. I will face the next lot when it comes. For those of a technical/medical bent it is called a Whipple procedure and sounds like something best avoided to me! How is everyone else? Much love Dilys xxxxx ... View more

Dear Karen Thanks! I have looked at the Macmillan website and apparently cancer of the bile duct and pancreas are quite rare. So I am firmly hoping that it is going to be something else. I am so glad they let me come home this weekend though. It would have been a real shame to be locked away in hospital in this lovely weather. Fingers crossed that they ring as promised on Tuesday and we can get things moving! When are you off? Can't be long now? Hi All Oh Karen you do make me laugh still! And yes I spent yesterday glued to the wedding - loved it all. Afraid the health news isn't great. I went off volunteering on Thursday and the breast nurse shoved me off to A and E as I am now very jaundiced. Spent until 11.30 at night there until I finally blagged my way out of being admitted! Turns out to be a blocked common bile duct, but no sign of gall stones. So next week I have a laporoscopy to eliminate (hopefully) the possibility of cancer. Hey ho. I am sure there are many other things it could be. But I wasn't going to sit in hospital all weekend as there is no way they would do the tests over the Bank Holiday! I am on a promise to go back if anything gets worse but so far so good. Other than that all is fine! Hope all is well with everyone. Much love Dilys xxxxx ... View more
