Hi ladies Although I didn't have recon after a bilateral mx I largely go breast free and love the freedom of it. Hi ladies I had a bilateral mx nearly three years ago and I felt a strong sense of grief. I was fortunate enough to be referred to a psychologist who worked closely with the breast unit which really helped me. One of the things she asked me was whether I had said goodbye to my boobs and if not, then write a letter to them. I ended up writing a longish poem about my experience and it was really helpful. Please remember that whatever it is you feel, it is valid and entirely ok for you to feel it; don't think that anything you feel is wrong because it isn't. Hi ladies I too am struggling with this decision, and wonder if there are any statistics on each option. I guess choosing between a shorter op or niggling doubt in your mind is down to personal choice and knowing what each of us can live with. What makes the decision a tad harder for me is that I had blood clots on the lungs from chemotherapy so worry about a general anaesthetic for a longer time. Hi Gil I had a bilateral mx two years ago after finding a lump in the shower. I knew I was at high risk of another one because my sister had BC twice (on two separate occasions) so I was more prepared than a lot of people. You have to trust your instinct, listen to and accept what you feel as there is no right or wrong. I felt a very real sense of grieving and saw the psychologist at the breast unit to help me deal with it and she got me to write down my feelings. I ended up writing a long poem which was very cathartic and helped me enormously. Hello again ladies I hope everyone is ok and doing well and enjoying the weather? I managed not to go into work after a hospital appointment today so that was a bonus! The tortoise is doing a sterling job in providing amusement, I was lucky enough to have him from a week old, my neighbour keeps them and had eggs hatch. Certain species do need a certificate but not this one yet. He scratches and digs under paper and over cork and I have even found him parallel to the side of the enclosure. It was a good incentive to get up and look after the tortoise all the way through chemo. Even being mummy to a tortoise is rewarding, I know how much pleasure pets give and I'm all for that! As far as I know, you can freeze eggs but I'm not sure if you need to separate them first but I guess if you look online with a bit of luck you'll find the answer. Morning ladies Carole you must never feel a failure through depression, only those who have suffered this know what it's like the same as those who've had BC. I am trying hard to feel that if I am being targeted with depression then at least I hope some other poor soul who is less able to cope is being shielded from it! You mustn't feel alone because you most certainly are not. We all have good days and bad days, I came home from the office early this week feeling that I just wanted to cry my eyes out and even making the admittance that I couldn't cope helped. take care Dawnflower xxx ...
