When my wife, Nicki, decided to have a reduction after her lumpectomy, I tried to persuade her not to go ahead. I felt it wasn’t worth taking the risk that something may go wrong and reassured her that I was happy with her the way she was. She said she was doing it for herself not me, so I respected her decision. When she first saw her reduced breast she was horrified, as the stitching of the extensive wounds looked a mess, far worse than after her lumpectomy. Nevertheless, after the wounds healed, she was really pleased with the final result. I was just relieved she’d survived yet another operation. However, once she became confident about her appearance again, I felt like I’d got back the Nicki I’d married. Later she even posed naked in a project about women with positive results after breast cancer. Nicki has written about these experiences in her breast cancer diary, which also has some of her photos from the project, scars and all. I hope this helps with your decision.
