I am not keen at all on the butterfly, beside which hasn't it already been used as a charity pin by someone else. I feel that a pin needs to reflect what it is to have secondary breast cancer- that it is a continous round of scans,treatment,scans and treatment. My idea would be to have a circle with arrows indicating the progression of acan/treatment/scan with perhaps the lettering SCAN TREAT REPEAT in the centre and the circle gradually becoming lighter in shade -the end of the circle is incomplete to signify death as I think some kind of hard hitting image,rather than a playful butterfly is needed. I have run this by two of the SBC groups I belong to and most agree. They definitely dislike the butterfly. I can't link to the image on here but could show you somehow if possible !

hello - I wondered whether I might join you on here- I am 4 years on from my primary diagnosis -2009- and was diagnosed with multiple lung mets in September 2012. I have been on Capecitabine since then and so far so good- the mets are reducing in size and the side effects are tolerable (actually I think I've just got used to them !) I sometimes feel a bit nauseous and have diarrhoea but the main pain is hands and feet which are incredibly prickly and uncomfortable all the time, despite my dose being reduced several times. Over Christmas I was given a cycle off for good behaviour,though pricklyness hasn't gone away. Other than that I feel well and have challenged myself to do the Swimathon in March (5k) which might be madness...acrually am more concerned about needing a wee during the swim than the distance. Am being treated at Basingstoke by the way.

hello - can I join in ? I'm on day 4 of my first cycle (lung mets diagnosed earlier this month) So far so good, but am hopeless at knowing how I feel - but no discernible side effects. My chest aches at the back but that's all. I was wondering whether it'd be ok to have my hair coloured (foils) or not - it'd really cheer me up...my salon uses Aveda which is pretty much plant based/natural, though there are chemicals in it of course.

I don't really look at my breast but today noticed 2 dents on the side of my breast (the breast operated on 3 years ago) The dents aren't right near my scar and are more apparent when I raise my arm. I can't tell whether they were there after surgery (ie before now) I have only this week had a check up, but the doctor didn't ask me to raise my arms, nor did he look at my breasts straight on,as the surgeon usually does (with arms down,then up) - this was a registrar and not the surgeon who operated. Am wondering whether this is due to surgery.

am almost 3 years since diagnosis,but have never asked about something on my histology report -am quite curious to know what it means - it says 'there is prominent retraction artefact' - can anyone tell me what this means ? x

hello= I haven't been on this forum for ages,but the GUILTY thing caught my eye ! I am permanently guilty about everything (lapsed Catholic !) I always feel that I don't count as I 'only' had a grade 2 2.4 cm IDC ,no nodes,so rads and tamoxifen,oh and wle and SNB. Not 'proper' cancer anyway - consequently I'm always apologising for taking my bcn's time (she is wonderful- I do talk to her a lot,even though I'm coming up to 3 years post dx - as the diagnosis brought up a lot of unresolved stuff- grief for my brother who died of cancer when he was 10 being the main thing. I know it's not a competition of course !

sounds perfectly normal - in fact 2 years on I still get the same ache now and again-plus the affected breast definitely feels different-so don't worry. Radiation does go on for a bit after rads.

yep,am pretty sure it's an age thing - it's just a bit of a shock as I'm unused to aches and pains- and I guess I like to know what's going on ! thanks for comments- I'll persevere with ibuprofen and see what happens.

Yes,I did think it might be a bit of arthritis -and I also thought that tamoxifen protected against osteoporosis - I'm 52 btw but still pre menopausal. It makes me feel really whingy complaining of stuff like this.

Have been on tamoxifen for coming up to 2 years in September. All fine until a few months ago when I started having aching hip joint (also aches in other parts- neck and arms but mainly the right hip) BCN says definitely not tamoxifen to blame -GP can't think what it might be- am on 3 x 400mg ibuprofen at the moment, to see what happens (it dulls the aches but am still aware of them)
A nurse friend suggested a bone density scan- would this be a good idea ? has anyone else experienced similar. Am totally unused to having aches,so it is not usual for me .

Karis- that does sound like my symptoms - my right hip is specially sore,even after walking into town and back,which is a mile or so each way...am sad you have had to give up piano lessons 😞 I draw for a living,so that would be a bit of a disaster. Lying in bed on my right side is bad as it just hurts.
