Hello. Just to let you know, things went well today. They identified thickening of tissue but said it was nothing sinister where I had felt the lump two weeks ago. (I couldn't find it when he asked me where I felt it, I'd been too nervous to keep checking since the doctors appointment). The consultant couldn't find any lumps in breast that GP had referred to. I am being referred to the genetics assessment to look at my risk factor due to family history and likely to get mammograms from 40 (currently 35). It feels so weird as I had steeled myself for bad news and then it wasn't that I now almost don't believe it. Obviously a massive weight has been lifted though and I'm relieved. I can't thank you both enough for the support this week as I was losing my mind and now feel a bit embarrassed about how worked up I was. Take care xx

Thank you for the information. I'm not allowed to take anyone with me 😭 so a notebook sounds like a good idea. I realised the consultant for the clinic mentioned on the phone is the man who did my mums breast surgery nearly 10 years ago 😳 I'm so nervous, I can't concentrate on my work at all.

Hello. I finally have an appointment - Friday morning. In the heat of the call I forgot to ask what would be involved. All I was told was to wear a face covering, wash my hands and not to wear deodorant or perfume. I'll let you know how it goes xx

Hi So my insurance only kicks in after a 6 week wait and for referrals made by a consultant/specialist and not a GP 🤷♀️🤦♀️ I'm off work tomorrow so I will call the helpline. Thanks so much for the support x

Hello Hope you're all OK. I spoke to my GPs secretary today and she called the clinic to chase up and phoned me straight back with exactly the same message they've given me about waiting for clinic capacity and not being able to give a timescale. She said if I'd not heard from clinic by Friday to call her back and she'd chase them again. I decided to tell one of the senior managers at work too in case I do get called for a cancellation appointment. He was supportive. So I guess I'm still waiting... Xx

Thank you I'll call them both in the morning again. I have private health care through work, would that get me an appointment any quicker? I'll warn my visits that I may not be able to attend and I'll keep my phone with me and loud at work awaiting calls. Thoughts all over the place and anxiety through the roof at times. Plus news today that there will be redundancies at work. Stress on stress. Thanks for your replies x

Thanks for the reply. I would leave work if possible but I have to travel around. I live near Newcastle but for example one day next week I'm working in West Yorkshire. Its frustrating they can't even give me an appointment in the future or an idea of a timescale of when I should be seen.

Hi, I found a lump in my armpit last weekend. I thought it was pain from working out and then found the lump. I went to see my GP on Tuesday who confirmed the lump and also said there were lumps in my right breast. He referred me to the referral clinic on the same day and gave me a letter with a number to call if I hadn't heard from them by the Thursday. Still no word by the Thursday so I called and they said they couldn't give me an idea of when I'd get an appointment. I missed a call from them today and when I called back they said it was because there had been a cancellation but it had already been taken. I asked when I'd get an appointment and they couldn't say. I am working so some days will be unable to just drop everything to go for a cancellation if they call me another day. Is that how it works? I just have to wait for a last minute cancellation? I am really anxious about it as my family history does not point to this not being cancer. Thanks

My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2010. She underwent chemo straight away for several months and lost all her hair then had a mastectomy in May 2011. She then underwent radiotherapy until about autumn 2011. She takes tamoxifen now.
lately she has been getting very upset because her hair hasn't grown back properly. It is very thin and frizzy and soft on the top, looking a bit bald, and seems to grow straight upwards, and then quite thick and frizzy but short at the back. It never gets any longer at the back It just seems to get bushier.
is it likely that it will ever grown back properly or will she have to accept it? Or are there any supplements she could take? I hate seeing her so upset, I'm just pleased that she is here!

i was so calm today, the waiting and not knowing was awful but today I felt really calm. Luckily I got the all clear too. Thank you so much to everyone on here for all the support and kind words xx

My fiancé got a little bit upset last night. Think he's been putting a brave face for me. He is so positive and hasn't allowed himself not to be, that's just his character until last night when said he I would have preferred him to come, he said he would come but I've told him not to, I know how hard it is to get out of his work, I just said that if it was bad and I needed him to be there later in day I'd expect him to come, he said if course, and he doesn't work far from the hospital So thats comforting. I'm doing the same, keep checking, yup it's still there... I'm so up and down. It isn't pathetic it's natural to worry. I had a major freak out on Monday, have calmed down now but it's so difficult to think off anything else isn't it.

My mum was 50, it was almost 2 years ago that she was diagnosed and just over a year ago that she finished all treatment.
I wish I didn't have to wait so long, I read on the hospital website that they will tell you what they can on the day but some test results will take 4 weeks if you need more tests after the scans! x

Thanks cats mother, that's good to know. He is a naturally very positive person and I'm sure he would be supportive if it came down to it but he doesn't think it's something to worry about yet.

I hope its nothing too. When I am in the car, driving for work, and I have nothing to keep my mind busy, it starts drifting to the worst case scenarios like terminal cancer!! I don't know why I am thinking this way. I need to snap out of it.
My fiancé won't talk about it, he thinks I'm being pessimistic for no reason. He isn't even coming to the appointment with me because his work is really difficult to get out of and he thinks i will be in and out, but I think it could take hours so my best friend is coming. I've been given no information in what is involved with the appointment. x
