Hi Lady Julie, I do hope you had some good results yesterday. Yes as guessed my spoiling involves lots of chocolates and retail therapy! Deb, in a way the op was better than I thought - probably because I was expecting the worst! What I meant by no node involvement was that they did SNB but did not do ANC. I am under the impression (I think that is what my doctor told me but I am not too sure now) that if they found some lymph nodes affected they would have performed ANC there and then so the fact they did not do ANC means that my lymph nodes were clear? Or is it possible that I could still find out in my pathology report that my lymph nodes are indeed affected and I would need ANC ? I would like to ask you ladies since you all are ahead of me how long this soreness is expected to last and till when you are taking/took painkillers. Deb, you said you needed to take painkillers to take off your jumper the other day - how long has it been since your op - 2 weeks? After one week I am still sore though admittedly it is not unbearable without painkillers - it is just that I can do more movement easily without feeling much pain if I took painkillers. I am going to run out of painkillers the hospital has given me soon - what are you ladies taking, paracetamols or...?! Hello ladies, thank you very much for your lovely wishes. I have just been discharged from the hospital - the surgery went well. I had a lumpectomy and there was no node involvement so I got off relatively lightly so far. I will have an excruciating 3-week wait till my pathology result come out, but I am determined to spoil myself in those 3 weeks! And you were all right, it feels so much better having had the tumour out, even though it is still sore post-surgery! Deb, that is such great news that your results were all clear! So happy for you. Hi Deb, it is good to see your post so quickly after your surgery and I am glad to hear that all went smoothly and well! You must be SO relieved now...!!! That is great that your drain came out so quickly (I was under the impression they stay in for a week or so) and you got to go home soon. You said it hardly hurt to take the drain out but did it hurt whilst you had it in? Does your boob still hurt and are you taking lots of painkillers?? Thanks Jane, my surgery is scheduled for 19th March - fingers acrossed! As everyone says hopefully the waiting room is the worst place to be and things will get better once my tumour is removed and I have the treatment plan in place after the pathology results. xx ... View more

Hi Deb, sorry for the late reply but somehow I missed some reent posts. MRI turned out to be unclear so not much help but the ultrasound few days later showed my tumour to be as big as 2.5cm when initially I had been told it was only 8mm - which upset me. But I guess it is better to find out now than later... I believe your surgery is tomorrow. Really hope it goes well - best of luck. I have mine in two weeks... Thanks DJ007 for directing me to the correct link! Janemod, thank you for your kind message. Sounds like you had a good MRI and post-surgery results. Apparently my lesion is only 1cm so they caught it early but I am worried that they might find more in MRI - I cannot wait to have the MRI done tomorrow and find out (hopefully nothing more showing)! Good luck with the r adiotherapy and Tamoxifen. Debcully, glad to hear your MRI result was a good one, too. I know what you mean - I get up and down as well, thinking about how my breasts will look after the surgery, and possibly radiotherapy and chemotherapy...and how the hormone/chemotherapy will affect my fertility etc. I think in our situation we cannot help feeling this way from time to time. But at least you had a good MRI result and your surgery is now booked. I am envious as I wish to get it done and over with asap!!! Good luck! x ... View more

Hi Susie Seaside, I, too, was recently diagnosed and I am in the same situation as you - no partner, no kids - so I know exactly how you feel. Initially looking at others' comments in various forums etc I felt a little down as everyone else seems to have supports and love from their husbands/boyfriends and their kids. But then I tried to think positive and thought even though we may not have supports from partners, at least we do not have extra worry of the effect having cancer has on the relationships with partners or how it affects the children,which I can imagine can be big issues for some. Instead, we can afford to be selfish and only worry about ourselves! So I guess both situations have pros and cons. And someone else here said even though she had a partner, she felt lonely at times nonetheless. And we are lucky to have few very good friends whom we can count on and the friends on this forum (and beloved cat and 2 rabbits in your case!). Hi Debcully, I, too, have been diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer recently and now waiting for MRI. Like yourself, I did lots of research on it but still not clear why lobular is said to be trickey. Is it because it is harder to detect or does it spread more quickly than ductal breast cancer, does anyone know?
