After seeing Tattoo Fixers recently, I am inspired to get my recon done, but concerned about the risk of infection and lymphodema. Has anyone had this done after full node clearance? I have a LD recon with implant that serves its purpose, but not that pretty, and I'd like to cover the scars that are still red 8 years on (I don't scar well). Any advice or info would be great. I'm 5 years post treatment this month! Invasive ductal, 5/11 nodes, Grade 3, mast LD recon, FECX and rads. Onc gave me 50% chance of being well in 5 years. I'm still here and I'm well (with everything crossed).

Hello everyone
I admit I initially only skimmed through your posts - it all seems a bit daunting - but as I am seeing my oncologist next week I feel I need to be well informed to ask the correct questions.
A bit of history - diagnosed Jan 07, mastectomy and recon Feb 07. Grade 3 invasive ductal, triple neg, 6/11 nodes. Chemo - 3 x FEC and 3 x Taxotere. 30 rads. Treatment finished early Oct 07.
So I am just over a year since treatment finished - I have to have corrective surgery next summer to replace my implant (gone hard thru rads) and to improve on the shape a bit.
I feel really well, physically and mentally, but also like I am just waiting for something else to raise it's ugly head - which I suppose is like all of us. Being triple neg, I feel I am not doing anything constructive or know what to ask for if I do get secondaries or recurrence.
I think we need a Triple Negative category added to this site.

I was a very regular reader and poster last year during all my treatment - receiving (and hopefully giving) support, hints, tips and also fun on 'chit-chat and fun'. I have not used the site much this year, only to look up specific things, although I did post yesterday as I happened to read a post I felt I could help with. I needed to concentrate on myself to try to get back into 'real life' and, to some extent, wanted to stop thinking about cancer.
It is a wonderful site - but I would also love to see a Triple Negative category. I don't know anyone else who is triple neg but know there are some who use this site - in fact I think I might do a search now to catch up on a thread I contributed to earlier this year.

Nail problems are common during chemo as it attacks the fast-growing cells and unfortunately that includes nails (and hair, as we all know!). Some people get fungal infections and, worst case scenario, lose some of their nails.
I was given this tip and escaped any problems, apart from weak nails - keep you nails painted with dark-coloured nail varnish. I'm not sure why this would help, but it did for me and a few others I know too. (I had FEC and Taxotere.)
Don't worry and give your BCN a call if you are concerned.

I was diagnosed aged 49 in Jan 2007, 35mm Grade 3 invasive ductal 6/11 nodes affected. Had mastectomy, LD recon, 3 x FEC, 3 x Taxotere, 30 rads. No breast cancer known in the family.
I had a hysterectomy in 2004, removing one ovary, and had just started getting menopausal symptoms before diagnosis.
I'm now 51 and feel quite well and back at work. I feel a bit limited physically with my recon boob - got to have corrective surgery and implant changed at the end of the year as rads has made my implant harden.

Hello all
It's been quite some time since I have used the forum and came on again this morning looking for other triple negs. I finished my treatment last October and life is getting back to some form of normal again now, but increasingly I have been feeling isolated as I have not met any other triple negs.
I am at the start of a huge life change. Selling my house (well, trying) I have lived in for 21 years, which in turn is forcing the kids (23 and 19) to be independant, and move in with my partner some 150 miles away. I keep thinking should I do this as I could die sooner rather than later, which would leave them with the house.
Prognosis 50/50 - mostly my cup is half full, but occassionally half empty (like today).
Have been reading about the TNT trial, so its good to know there are new treatments coming along for us. I think it was there that said that about 15% of breast cancers are triple neg.
Anyway, it's reassuring to find this post
