Interesting about the ladycare magnet. I tried magnet therapy for arthiritis a few years back but didnt really get much benefit. Might try taping that magnet to my abdomen and see if that helps with mood swings lol. Well a magnet is a magnet isnt it?
Been on Tam for a week now and the main change I have noticed is nasty mood swings the first few days (like PMT). Got a headache today but started antibiotic course 2 days ago for slight infection in my SNB scar so could be that.

Sounds like we got similar result with similar treatment prescribed Anna. I was also told dont need Chemo but didnt question this and was very relieved to be told I didnt need it.
Was also told can start Tamoxifen straight away which I thought unusual as most here seem to start taking it after Rads have finnished.
Wonder if we have the same consultant lol.

Started Tam APS brand last Thursday. No real bad side effects yet. Hope I havent spoken too soon lol. I take mine in the evening before bed.

I went to my GP and asked her to refer me for a mammogram as my mum had been diagnosed with BC a few months earlier and her consultant had advised me and my sisters to get checked out. When I arrived for my appt I saw a different consultant from my mums who said mums consultant had been wrong to give me that advice as according to NICE guidelines I wasnt an at risk case as my mums type of bc wasnt of the gene type. Anyway, had the mammogram anyhow as it had been booked and lucky I did as a lump was found in my left breast. I shudder at the thought that if mums consultant hadnt advised me to get checked out that I wouldnt have been entitled to a mammogram till I was age 50 or even 53 (I was 47 when I had my mammogram) and could have been too late.
My GP never checked out whether my mum did have cancer and just took my word for it so was wondering if anyone said they had a relative with BC if they could get referred regardless.

Wondering if anyone here has had WLE, rads and tamoxifen and then gone back to work nursing physically handicapped people either during of after treatment.
We have hoists etc at work but wondering what the risk is with lympeodema, fatigue etc during and after treatment finishes.
Had WLE 10th August with 4 lymp nodes removed under left arm too. Have just started tamoxifen and waiting to commence 15 sessions of rads. Am off work at the moment and manager wants to know when I will be back.

Hi Lenny, Thats good info re Tamoxifen and Venaflaxine. I've just started Tamoxifen and was already on Prozac and according to something I read on the internet the two dont mix well, but Venafaxine is ok with Tam, so will see my GP about that.

Got my results from my op yesterday . Stage 1 and Grade 2 for me too ! Diagnosed July 17th op August 10th ,WLE and SNB .
Just under 2cm ,no node invovement . Started Tamoxifen yesterday and waiting for appointment to commence 15 sessions of rads.
Seems like most here had rads first then started tamoxifen.

Well the result from appointment today was good. Surgeon has managed to get all the cancer out, but I will still have to take tamoxifen daily for 5 years which I started today, and will be given a date to start radio therapy soon. Will be having this daily for 3 weeks. Surgeon advised me not to work as side effect from radio therapy will be excessive tiredness plus cant lift due to them taking out some lymph nodes from under the left arm.
Lump was stage 1, grade 2.
Had booked to go to China and Malaysia before I found out about this cancer, so asked if I would be ok to fly end of October and surgeon said shouldnt be a problem and radio therapy should be finished by then. One of the side effects from the tamoxifen tablets is hot flashes so I dont think I will want to be out and about in the sun in malaysia and will be grateful for air conditioning lol.
Started taking the tamoxifen this afternoon and feel really hot already. Would that be the side effects this soon or is it the weather?

Another one is lifting pans out of the oven. you need two good arms for that ; Think of dressing too. Do you need help with that with your lymphoedema? Try to think of all the times you need help from someone even if you do not actually get that help.
Come to think of it, it was the cooking one that swung it for me when I claimed DLA a few years ago (non cancer related). DIAL helped me fill in mine as CAB had a waiting list.

Haven't read all this thread but wanted to ask how long you normally have to wait for results after a lumpedectomy. Had lump removed Monday 10th and 4 nodes removed. Been told will get results on 27th August. Seems a long time to wait. Looks like some of you got your results much earlier.
Also when I was in the breast clinic pre-op having ultrasound so could be marked so the surgeon knew where to op I noticed someone had put on my notes lump found with "poorly defined margins". What does that mean. Was too scared to ask at the time.

Thanks for all your info topsymo. Just seen on another thread about someone who has just come back after a long haul flight, so can see it is doable. Just hope I have WLE and RT now .
Have seen on another page that they can test the nodes while you are under anaethestic to save another op. Will have to wait and see if that happens to me.

One thing I remember the consultant saying was that they will take 2 nodes from under the arm. Test them there and then and if they are cancerous remove remainder of nodes. Dont think I have seen anyone else mention this here. Also am wondering what is this result of node/axilliary clearance I've seen mention which you seem to wait 2 weeks for?

Been reading this thread with great interest as I am going into hospital tomorrow to have a lumpectomy on Monday. Was told will probably be home on Tuesday. This will be followed by RT. Was surprised to read there is a gap between surgery and having RT but now realise you have to let the scar heal first. Im fair skinned and diabetic so thinking it will take time for the scar to heal, then will probably get burn marks from the RT.
Was planning on going to Malaysia and China on 29th October for 3 weeks (visiting relatives). Flight already booked before diagnosis but guess that will have to be postponed and insurance will be a nightmare to get too. Anyone here gone on long haul flight 2 or 3 months post op?
Oh well, have to get the op over and done with first. Im soooo nervous.

Oh no. Is it inevitable that one puts on weight with Tamoxifen? I've lost 3 stone over the past 3 years since my hip replacement. Dont want to put it all back on.
Im having lump from left breast removed next Monday and then doctor said I will be on Tamoxifen for 5 years.
How does it make you put on weight. Does it make you feel hungrier or does it slow down your metabolism?

I work in a care home on night duty and there is some lifting involved though we do have electric hoists. Also lots of ironing/cleaning jobs to do *rolleyes*. Bit worried about weakness in arm after the lump and node removal.
Also another worry I have which I havent seen posted here or anywhere is that have been experiencing this feeling where ,in the middle of my chest, right near where the lump was spotted on the ultrasound it feel tight and sort of stiff. And sometimes it feels as though I cant take a deep breath...but when I try to take a deep breath, I can. I am not short of breath or anything, it is more of a pressure, tight feeling. Does anyone else get that type of sensation?It is very scarey. I guess it is down to anxiety but I was experiencing this before my diagnosis. I guess about 2 months on and off now (have had lots of family stress last 2 years or so) . Could this be pressure from the lump (even though it is tiny) pressing on heart/lungs? I got swimming once a week or so and notice this feeling more after swimming (could be fumes from chlorine? )
Anyway, will mention it at the pre op...........
