Hi Alex Sorry you're having to come to this site but there is lots of support here & the helplines are excellent. 2005 I had BC left side - WLE , 2009 multi-focal BC right side - mastectomy, now recurrence right 2012 I didn't find my mastectomy too dreadful but with hindsight wish I'd had mastectomy 2005 (there was talk of it but after good response to chemo, had WLE) I'm not that big 36C, I’m 61 & not had any reconstruction, as simply don’t want extra surgery & from some of the girls I know it’s never quite as expected.....however sure there are ladies here that can tell you positive stories. I manage with prosthesis & wearing layers/scarves etc but would be easier if my chest was balanced! (and me too!) so I personally would have double mastectomy. hi linda yes does seem a long wait!! have been thinking of you at least things on the move - hope apart from the anxiety you are feeling ok? i've only 3 rads left to go....saw doc today as can feel swelling & new lump under arm but he thinks only results of rads & lump is fat but will check me in 6 weeks.....do feel reassured. love k x ... hi louis sorry to hear you're struggling with side effects . i'm also having rads, number 17 of 25 today - i have a little cough but more to do with grandchildrens' germs i think!! sounds like docs are doing what they can.....i can only suggest manuka honey.....will be soothing at the very least! are you on hormone therapy? as i know that can sometimes give people throat problems sorry i'm not much help but perhaps this will bump up post & someone else may be able to help or you could phone the helpline & i find they are always very helpful k x ... hi sorry you're having a worrying time, i've had bc in both boobs & recently had a recurrence on my 2009 mastectomy scar - it did feel like a hard pea but just below scar line & did prove to be cancer again but was told 'highly unusual'! had surgery & now having rads & ok!! i have had lots of long waits (found last aug!!) & definitely think the waiting & wondering is v hard.......hopefully you'll have some other posts of better results - altho' guess most people are on this site because of positive results so don't despair! do talk to the helpline they are always wonderful hoping all goes well for you kx ... been thinking of you linda, thank you for posting for what it's worth i think you've made the right decision.......surgery would be very difficult & still might not have the right outcome.......i know when my surgeon told me if they hadn't got clear margins the 2nd time, that the next step would be skin graft etc i immediately thought no!! (& spoke to doc SIL who agreed) plus as a nurse you really do understand the implications of major surgery so hoping your appointment goes as well as possible & arrangements for chemo soon under way i'm having 8/25 rad today - so far all well - compared to surgery or chemo no prob for me!! love and gentle hugs kx ... Hi ruby You’ve had/are having a rough time & I agree the waiting is the worst, it's so hard. Like you say once you have ‘a battle plan’ you just have to deal with it! I phoned radiotherapy today as saw my oncologist 19 th Dec & signed forms for radiotherapy but still hadn’t heard anything! As I do child care for my (NHS) physio daughter, the not knowing impacts further than just me!! And I do believe we are allowed to have lives even while BC seems in control at times!! Hi Ceciddle Sorry that you’re having to come to this site & are feeling so worried but the fact they’ve said it’s not invasive is a good sign. I found a lump on my mastectomy site at the beginning of Aug which was recurrence of an invasive cancer however I still didn’t get surgery until the middle of Oct which then didn’t get clear margins so......SIX week wait for 2 nd surgery which did get clear margins and was told breast cancer is slow growing!!! found that very hard ,so can understand the horrible feelings you have while delayed! Sorry you're back here again! Recently I've had surgery x2 for recurrence and waiting for radiotherapy now. Had 5 tumours in 7 years & 1 pos sentinel node, chemo x2 but a bit older diagnosed at 53 & it is rubbish!! So my heart goes out to you & wishes you best results poss.
