Hi. It’s my only option because I can’t just have implants because of previous radiotherapy and apparently haven’t got enough fat anywhere on my body for a diep flap or whatever else muscle sparing reconstruction so plastic surgeon told me this was my one and only option for a reconstruction x and no I don’t mind you asking at all 😁 x

It is indeed but thank you for sharing your experience and yes it has answered a few questions... it doesn’t seem like this particular reconstruction is very common does it ? Oh well hopefully everything will work out in the end ...not really got a lot of choice other than staying flat and for me that’s definitely not an option I would even consider 😬

Omg Tili that doesn’t sound good 😬 I will ask about that at Guys hospital! joskyblue did you have an implant put in also? Was it just one side? How did symmetry compare to the other side? How painful was it after the op? How is the strength in your back now? Does it feel any different? I’m having both sides done and LD is the only reconstruction that I can have as not suitable for anything else unfortunately ... so not looking forward to it 😬

Ok so I’ve already had radiotherapy 8 years ago...I have just been told that implants are not a good option after radiotherapy but is it a case of this is true on top of the muscle but if it’s under the muscle it’s different?

Hi all....back on here for the third time 🥲 anyway saw oncologist yesterday and basically it’s a mastectomy this time...I’m trying not to look like a patchwork quilt so said I would prefer implants ... she said it maybe a problem as that boob has had previous radiotherapy so I just wondered if anyone has had implants over radiotherapy area and if so has there been any problems? Also I’m pushing for a double for symmetry and would be very interested to hear from both single and double mastectomy people who have had any sort of reconstruction...how they/it looks...for symmetry or likeness to other breast. Thank you in advance 😁

Hi PM...glad to hear you don’t need chemo and wouldn’t fret too much about RT...I was diagnosed in 2013 and had a WLE which took about a quarter of my boob off including my nipple...I found RT was a breeze...just a pain going everyday. Over time I’ve had a nipple reconstruction which I am delighted with...also tattoo of areola (ouch). The nipple goes flat but still worth it I think and the tattoo fades so I keep getting it topped up...I’m hoping all the surgeons hard work has not gone to waste as just been told the cancer is ‘back’. Hoping it can be dealt with by a lumpectomy and tablets...glad you got clear margins first time 👍 x

Hi Seabreeze and thanks for your reply....hmmmmmm interesting re the kidney ‘hot spot’ never thought of it going through my kidneys so you may well have hit the nail on the head there. It was quite a large ‘spot’ as well...as for the one on the spine (the one that worried me the most) I have no idea. I did know that old injuries showed up but can’t remember ever injuring my back. Anyways scan came back clear so onwards and upwards 😁 whats your story Seabreeze? X PS you must be hard as nails not realising that you had two fractured ribs 😱😱😱

Really pleased for you clawsie...now you can enjoy the BH hopefully 😁 my cousin also spent his last few months in agony due to the bone metastasis 😩 so is it a lumpectomy on both for you now then? Then back on tablets? Debbie x
