Wren thank you for all the info. I’m 47Yo and finished treatment with Paclitaxel 2 months ago and was so happy because I thought I’ve made it without bigger consequences as to side effects but about 2 weeks ago started feeling joint pain on my whole body and it’s getting worse and worse. Have an appointment with my oncologist on the 9th of November and didn’t even know what to expect until seeing all these comments here. Just when you think the nightmare is over huh?

Love this thread, on this disease that fills us with dread, Bold and brave in the hope that we will be saved, Trust the Doc and take stock of life and loves, Question not the why? Hi All,Thanks for the replies...I have had no periods since Jan 08.  I have had 4 blood tests 2 months apart to check what stage of the meno pause (pre/post)And all the tests have come back saying that I am post menopause!! Hence Arimidex....  So yep I have to come to the fact that I am a 36 yr old that has gone or going through the menopause... Good job I don't want any more kids!No one Dr or Onc has mentioned anyother tablets etc.... But I do try and avoid taking any extra meds due to my liver! I must agree with you all though on one thing I too do not want mr BC to return - I have to much to live for! Well it is early days for any side effects but not sure if the syptoms I have pre arimidex will get worse - but will keep you posted!Thanks again

I haven't been on for a while due to be unwell with chemo. I find pear drops, kola cubes, celery and as the other girls have said fresh fruit and salad and very good for easing the taste inyour mouth.

Hi have just read your update and what an horrendous time you have had. Other people have stopped at number 4 on here and I am sure your onc would not let you stop if he thought it would make a great deal of difference. If it is Dr Cole you have been seeing he is extremely straight talking.
I have been craving cold milk too now I have swopped to the CMF so its just the chemicals making our bodies demand things. Of course a good dose of chocolate helps.
At least with Rads in September you can work off the chemo through the summer and spend time with the children ready to start treatment when they are back at school. I have a feeling I may have to do the rads through half term and drag them to Oxford. I dont know how I will be by then as getting more tired but if you did want me to take you a couple of times then I could check the place out ready for my arrival! Everyone I have spoken to says its not a good idea to drive yourself.

I'm jealous of you going in the pool, must have been so refreshing!
I don't swim strongly,but adore being in the water, so relaxing ( if it's warmish! ).
I'll need to buy a new swim suit, too. let me know where you manage to get a good one. I'll have to wait months yet, I suppose. lots of bugs in public pools!!

I got a leaflet when I started chemo telling me to boil all drinking water, it was from a local (Yorkshire) advice agency. It has been a right pain boiling the water, I can tell you. We bought a stiniless steel casserole type pot then filled it with the boiled water, it would cool down and then be decanted into the fridge. Changed every 24 hours. Don't know if it is was neccessary but did as I was told. I had a galss of water from the tap this morning, do appreciate it now I can do it again!

Hi Sarah, for some unknown reason when I was having chemo I would hanker after eating home baking. I haven't baked since my children were young and their in their 30's now. Sometimes although I could hardly move I just had to bake a fruit loaf or lemon meringue pie. Very strange. Now I've finished chemo I don't think about eating them.

I have a rescue cat I got in January. I lost my other cat to thyroid disease in December ( he was only 6). The month after i got my new cat I got my diagnosis. I f I have a tired day on chemo he sits with me all day. He never makes a mess and has occasional scratched but I am not going to get worried about it as his therapeutic value is immeasurable to me. Definately get a cat !!! I am nearly all the way through my chemo and not had any infections or problems.

Hi.Update from my last comment...They changed my drugs to Taxol instead of Taxotere.Also,im having it weekly 3wks on the 1 week off ,in smaller dosage instead of 1bulk every 3weeks.Im hoping this works for me.Its been day 2 now,so far nerve side effects on both arms on day 1.

Hi everyone - 3.45 am and I'm thinking of renaming this thread "can't sleep after sixth FEC". So .. hurray for having had the last dose, but boo hiss to the steroids for keeping me awake and to the veins for being so crap. I hope they will behave better for the 18 sessions of herceptin that start on 8 July.
Ann, I hope the chemo's not on your birthday. I just moved mine by a day to get to something I wanted to do, and it felt like a lovely present of a bonus day. Liz is right that it goes quicker than you think it will. I've been finding it good to plan little treats for the end of each cycle - nothing spectacular, just lunch with friends, concerts, meals out, that sort of thing - it adds a touch of normality.
Fingers crossed that your bloods will be OK and you're feeling better Jenny. Do you get hayfever, and if so might that be a factor? I seem to be more susceptible to it than usual.
Good luck with the rads Liz - I seem to be avoiding that. Thank you for reminding me about the rosy glow. It's always a surprise even though I should be expecting it. I thought it was sunburn the first time round.

well done you guys, we all love to hear about people getting to the end. Talking about dates, my op was on April Fools Day and absolutely everyone laughed, not one person missed! By the time I told them about being radioactive for the SNB and being blue from the dye (it did go to my face as they said and I still have a blue boob, or blue tit as it has been fondly called!) they were just rolling around and then very contrite and apologising. Good job I can take a joke well. They found the lump on 29 Feb, so no anniversary of that day to remind me for another 4 years.
Hope you all had a good day today, back in for epi 2 tomorrow and target practice to see if they can actually get in my port this time!!

Hi Elaine,
I am on Taxotere, Cyclophosphamide and Herceptin. I have had 3 out of 6 cycles. I have liver mets and I do find that I have pain in that area the week after chemo usually. Mind you, things seem to change with each cycle and my good and bad weeks are never quite the same time so life is unpredictable! My doctor said that the pain was because things were being zapped and this was good. He mentioned necrosis and that the pain could come from this dead tissue.
My lower legs ache and i do not know if it shin splints from exercise walking or not. I do get restless leg syndrome at night just after chemo. I keep telling myself that this is all just a phase.....

I have just finished my TAX had 3 FEC 3 TAX, I found TAX better than FEC was really ill on FEC, but felt better on TAX. My hair started growing again. I was given lots of steriods and came down gradually I already take diclofeniac and Co-drydomol. I agree with the fatigue it knocks you for six and also drink loads it does flush it out of your system. Suck sweets and don't forget the black nail varnish for fingers and toes.
