gill2006, cataracts are a known side effect for Tamoxifen. It is listed on the info sheet with mine, and I've seen it mentioned on the internet, too. I haven't noticed any change in my eyesight, but I'm due to see my eye doctor on Thursday. This has nothing to do with the Tamoxifen. I should have gone last year, but found out I had breast cancer, so decided to put that off. Now is the time I feel comfortable going. ... View more

pinkdove - that really cheered me up - thanks - also Liverbird always cheers me up - you Liverpool lobular lasses are an optimistic bunch. Does anyone know how much it costs for a private MRI breast scan? I got mine on the NHS and within a week after being dx with lobular, but I can't see them paying for one a year from now on ..... still waiting for results of last week's MRI which will determine extent of surgery. If they won't pay for MRIs and it doesn't show up on mammograms, why recommend lumpectomy/WLE? Follow-up mammograms certainly won't reassure me as my lobular tumour did not even show up on mammogram but only on ultrasound and core biopsy. Fiona ... View more

Hi sharon Just a quick note to tell you had op. on the 28th home yesterday and feeling ok. Had the lump and 2 lymph nodes removed. Nodes came back negative(what a relief) jus waiting for the results of biopsie on lump to see if i need rads. Have app. on Tues but wont hold my breath hoping i will get the results then. Hi It seems to vary where you are. I had my op (right mastectomy and full lymph removal) last Tuesday, 13th. My chemo starts next wednesday 28th - I was gobsmaked cos I thought it would be 4 or 5 weeks and i'd get christmas by with first!! Hi Mary Hope everything is going well for you. I had my planning appointment for radiotherapy yesterday and now have a right breast covered with black felt tip pen and three virtually invisible tattoos - hope they can find them on the 29th when I go for my first session! The oncologist still doesn't have any info on my hormone status and says I may not really need the Tamoxifen - he feels the side effects may outweigh the benefits - my feeling is " If there are benefits, I want them!" but I did read that radiotherapy prevents Tamoxifen from working so I'm not sure what to do - think I will continue until I get back to see my surgeon on January. Two weeks until our first grandchild is due - my other half has been sanding and varnishing my old cot for when they come to visit - my parents would have been so proud (it was my cot and we used it for both our daughters) - doctor says 2/5ths engaged so things seem to be progressing well - now just have to hope that their financial details haven't been leaked by the government!!!! I am on Taxotere and have just started getting a tingling sensation in my feet, plus some soreness and redness by my big and little toes, My feet look swollen which is not a nice sight as they are quite wide anyway - I am worried I will end up with feet like Fred Flintstones by the weekend and I am supposed to be going to a 'do', just my luck!! Hopefully this will wear off pretty soon, I have just had my second Taxotere and as the side effects were nowhere near as awful as the first lot I thought I had got off lightly. Is there a local cancer centre where you could ask? In Aberdeen (near where we live) there is a cancer centre and they have some one trained to help with children, either affected by cancer in the family or that have it themselves. I think I would ask her. ... View more

Hi there Imust say I was dreading losing my hair but when it fellout it was almost a relief as my scalp was so painful and my hair like straw. My scalp feels so comfortable now. I have a wig that I wear out but find it hard to get the adjustment right. It was very funny bacause I saw someone that I had not seen in ages who did not know I had cancer. She rushed up to me gushing about my wonderful new hair style! I wear my hat at home and when I have treatment as its so much more comfortable. Hi Pinkdove, thanks for your reply. I went to my doctor and was told there were six cysts in my left breast so it would be nearly impossible to get them all. After I had my US I was only told about one cyst. He felt that because I have large breasts the pain in my breast and arm were due to that, although I reminded him that I have had this same pair many years and have never had any pain. His solution was to send me to a plastic surgeon for a reduction and in the process the cysts could be looked at, I have this consultation appt the 29th. Does this sound normal to to anyone? Hi All It appears we all hear different things but I think the basic rules are nothing with live bacteria, such as live yoghurts or blue and unpasteurised cheese. Much like when you're pregnant (I hear!). Or pate or undercooked meats. More important in the 2nd week when blood count low. Also if you are ER+ then nothing with oestrogen in significant quantities, which does also include soya products. But go with what you feel, after all not everything is appealing when you're on chemo so I have tended to eat what I like around the post chemo time, and it has included a cooked camembert cheese! Hiya Debbi. I'm so sorry you have this, too. I'm with maisey. If they have given you any contact numbers for your breast care nurse, give her a call in the morning. Write down whatever you want to ask her beforehand, and write down what she says to you. That might help you to take it all in. I'm sure it happens very often. It is a shock to the system. Good luck.
