Hello Everyone, Seems like we all have similar problems on the capecitabine. After my first 3 months on it my MRI showed amazing improvement in my bone mets - I had been ready to tell my oncologist i’d had enough of the side effects but decided I had to carry on. I take loperamide constantly when i’m on treatment as diarrhoea and tummy upsets are my main problem. I’m now on ondansetron for nausea and I take gaviscon to help protect my tummy. My bone pain has decreased too so i’m now on paracetamol rather than co codamol for pain relief. I did have multiple pulmonary embolisms in September so am also on daily anticoagulants. Hi. I'm new to this forum. Haven't had chance to plough through all the messages yet but will!! i've been on Capecitabine since last April and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride with side effects. Tried various combinations of meds and found the best for me are loperamide, ondansetrin and gaviscon. Had a really awful time when I first started but have cut the dose now to 2 x 1500 daily and am coping though do have some days each month when I feel awful!! Look forward to finding out how you are all doing. X

Neither my GP nor my oncologist would fill out a ds1500 for me. I sent my application off after consulting the citizens advice web pages and was pleased to get the PIP awarded. However it is only for 2 years then I presume I have to apply again!?!?

Thank you - it's good to hear all your thoughts on the radiotherapy. I've now got an appointment to see radiotherapy consultant in 2 weeks, full body Mri in 3 months to check on spread and onc appt in 3 months to decide whether to switch to tablet chemo- capetabine. My oncologist said it's in the bone marrow of my vertebrae- not quite sure exactly on the implications?

Hello everyone. Was wondering if any of you have had radiotherapy to help reduce pain ? My onc has suggested I have some on my spine and pelvis. Not sure whether to wait longer or to go for it now ? I hate making decisions!!!!

Hi Ladies just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I've been looking through this thread as last week I was diagnosed with mets in my spine. My original breast cancer diagnosis was in 2010 when I had 27/28 lymph nodes involved. I had a hysterectomy and oophorectomy this year and the post op histology showed secondaries in my uterus, cervix, ovaries and Fallopian tubes. I was quickly put on letrozole. An MRI scan confirmed mets in my spine. My treatment plan is to stay on the letrozole and have monthly infusions of zometa. Hoping to get to know you all and to pick your brains so I can understand what's going on and know what sort of questions to ask at my next appointment 🙂 Xxx

Hello ladies,
Well it's the last day for posting - I have tried to put more messages on here but have had problems
Two years ago when I was going through my operation, chemotherapy and radiotherapy I discovered the BCC forums and they made a huge difference to my life. No longer was I on my own - there were people out there who understood how I felt and could offer advice and help for any problem!! During my sleepless nights there were always people on here who would chat through the night and play silly games. We compared scars, stitches, drains, medications, side effects, doctors, nurses, hospitals. Anything could be discussed and compared - even the most ghastly of chemo side effects!!
I have so much to thank all of you for and also the BCC website - I just hope they get it sorted out soon so that it's there for those in need.

Hello Ladies, another Embarking girl here
It's been a long couple of years but made so much easier with the support and friendship of everyone on the Embarking thread. We've laughed and cried together, shared our happiness and sorrow- both on here and at our meet ups. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
I feel as though my life is getting back to normal now and cancer is not playing such a major part. Yes it does rear it's ugly head with every niggle and ache but NED is also my best friend at the moment and long may that last. I had a very high lymph node involvment - 27 out of 28 were cancerous - and am feeling particularly happy to still be classed as NED.
Thank you to Maria for starting the Embarking thread which helped so many of us through our difficult journey. It's lovely to still be in touch with such an inspiring group of ladies.

Hi K,
I was diagnosed with 27/28 nodes in March 2010 and was devastated- remember my oncologist saying that they were going to throw everything they could at it. I had FEC-T, radiotherapy and am now on Tamoxifen and have just had a clear mammogram and ultrasound so am feeling good at the moment.
This year I have been getting my life back together and everything is much more positive than it was.
Good luck with the treatment, it's tough at the time but you'll get through it.
