Hi, I had a WLE, 10 years ago followed by Chemo, Rads and Tamoxifen, Grade 3 Stage 1, for the past few days I have been experiencing pain on and off in this breast. I do work with babies and toddlers and am wondering if this could be muscular? Or should I contact my GP? Unfortunately, as I a now 10 years post DX I no-longer have open access to a BCN...( they changed the rules on this a couple of years ago, as originally I was told I would have open access for the rest of my life!

I was dx with breast cancer 9 yrs ago, had WLE, Chemo., ( FEC ), Rads, and 5 years of Tamoxifen.
I have suffered with painful knees for about 3 years ( my job probably doesn't help I'm a nursery nurse working with 0 - 2's ).
Also last year I fell and sustained a fracture of the 9th rib on left side ( side effected by BC ).....this took quite a few months to heal properly.
About 8 weeks ago I fell from a chair, I again sustained fracturesd ribs but this time 2, one being the 9th again!!.... three weeks after the original injury I bent to put a dish in cupboard and felt and h eard rib crak, but no pain, then five weeks after the original injury I went to sit down and they cracked again....this time had severe pain again.
Saw a GP 2 weeks ago (not my usual one ), she straight away wanted another X-ray as noticed my BC history on file and said as long as next X-ray showed clean break it would be ok otherwise she would be referring for bone scan, X-ray aptly., was 'normal'.
When I saw my usual GP this week, I mentioned to him that the triage nurse I spoke to expressed concern regarding possible Osteoporosis /Osteopenia.....he said...'' its ok nothing like that or cancer sec's showed up on x-ray ''.........
Could someone tell me if a normal x-ray would even show up these things?.

Thank you both for your replies.
I have made an appointment with a different GP ( one that the triage nurse reccommended as being ' very thorough' ) but as she only works 2 days a week next appointment isn't until 6th June.
I am so fed up of my normal GP, who I have been seeing for over 20 years, I feel he is maybe becoming a little too complacent from knowing me so long......it did take him 18mths to refer me when I presented with lump...even though he knew my Aunt had been dx with BC when she was 50!!.......I also know that he will think its just me being paranoid, as she was dx with bone secs., 15 yrs after original dx.
I intend to push for a bone scan, as on reading up, I discovered that a normal x-ray doesn't neccessariy show Osteoparosis etc., until there is a 30% reduction!!
I returned to work yesterday...again...after 3 weeks and am today suffering with niggling pains....I realise it probably is due though to just returning to a activity I haven't done for some weeks too.

Well I actually had a meeting at the home today, where they apoogised and said the ex manager had not followed procedure.
They agreed to extra time off ( as recommended by OHU ) when neccessary, will honour holidays, and reassured me reference my other concerns.
Now I am back in the dilemma of '' Do I or Don't I ''!!!

Such very sad news, thoughts with Debbies family and friends.
I think we all agree bloody cancer needs stamping out, we just don't seem to be making any progress in finding a cure for this awful disease. x

Thanks for your replys, I still have not heard anything from them......as much as I've had enough in my present job, I do not think I can take the risk on the other one.
I was so happy when I was offered the position in September and was ready to leave my present job ( have been there for 18yrs on and off )......now I feel very disillusioned and disappointed.

I've been on Citalopram 20mg for 8 yrs ...since dx...I was also on Tamaepam and Zolpidem....the Tamazepam was replaced by a lower dose Diazepam.
It takes a good few weeks for Citalopram to work...or any other anti-depressent....it can make you feel worse to start off with, do try to stick with it, what strength have you been prescribed?
Maybe go back to your GP and see if he will give you a low dose Diazepam ...short term....to help with the anxiety.
I know how you feel my anxiety got competely out of control when I was 3/4's of the way through my chemo....even with the meds.,
I now try to live with it with it with the hep of meds., and a supportive GP.

I was offered a new job as housekeeper at a nursing home, but after completing the medical questionnaire the manager withdrew the offer, I fought my case and she re-offered it subject to OH clearence....that was in September....there has been endless e-mails, letters, phonecalls, the then manager is 'no longer in their employment'!....and it was only on the 17th December that I finally got a call from OH....this was after me persistently pushing.....they said they would pass information to their doctor, and rang me back that afternoon to say doctor had no concerns but was recommending manual handling training and to be allowed above average time off,......well I had a letter with a start date of 14th January....(even though they know I have to give 4 wks notice)....they addressed the manual handling training but not the other recommendation.....so the saga continues!!!
Now I am left wondering if it would really be safe to give up my current job for this one anyway given the problems I have had so far?

Well I have a new grandaughter, she is 2mths old now, Siennah Mae, mum only just made it to the hospital!!

I was Dx 8yrs ago, I will never consider myself a 'survivor'....my aunt was 15yrs after original DX when she had her secondary DX, she died 19yrs after her original DX .
I lie to say I'm 'NED' or 'In Remmission'...though must say i too like the term 'NEDDY'
What I never know to say is wether 'I am a cancer paitent' or 'I was a cancer paitent'??
Sometimes I do kind of forget ( well not forget..but not think about it all the time)....then it worries me all over again...especially when I know my appointment for my mammogram will be her either just before or just after christmas.

I remember you David, I was dx in 2004 but didn't start using the forums until about 2005/6.
I am 8yrs down the line, I have had a few scares, but all were ok in the end.
I'm interested to see how others from that far ago are feeling now both physically/emotionally/mentally.
I am still taking Anti-depressents, Diazepam and Sleeping tablets, find myself quite anxious and emotional at times, physically I get tired quicker than I used to pre dx, and have had to reduce to working 3 days a week....which even that at times can feel too much.
I remember other users from that time, some sadly no-longer with us but others who I have stayed in contact with via email/facebook etc.,

Hi,
Did reply before but must of got lost!!
I had FEC and was on Tamoxifen for 5 years, I had my gallbladder removed 2years ago after suffering horrendous pain which was discovered to be gallstones. I also find my legs very heavy after walking now, especially uphills and stairs.

Oh Yes.....can definety relate to this, i finished 5 years of Tamoxifen 2-3 years ago, I had gallstones 2 years ago, horrendous pain, I had a scan which confirmed them, and subsequently had my gallbladder removed afew months later, unfortunatey though I have fallen into the percentage who still get gallstone pain occassionaly even without the gallbladder!!
Also the legs too are a problem, ok walking on flat but uphill etc., legs competely seize up.

I was diagosed with Grade 3 in 2004, I was 43....a little older than you I know.
It is devestating, and you have a long journey ahead of you, I was diagnosed on a Friday so had the weekend to go through without being able to talk to anyone ( didn't have internet then).
I had surgery, chemo, rads and Tamoxifen for 5 years.....I didn't think I could/would get through it, but I did, It isn't easy and you will go through a mixture of emotions etc., but there is always someone available on here to offer support etc.,....hopefully you will have a good BCN ( I did fortunately) and she will be able to offer ongoing support and advice.
At the moment you wil not be able to see the end of the tunnel, but believe me please you will eventually.
