I had to walk to theatre (it was on the same floor as the surgical ward) but that was with a nice hotty theatre assistant and they did let me keep my knickers on (my own not the paper variety). The nurses were lovely.

I am having a delayed reconstruction as I may need rads. I had my mx last week and am still getting used to the new look. Hope to have a reconstruction next year using an implant

Hi October girls,
I'm still recovering after my mx but do hope that I can get the chemo started in October. My BCN said I would but I guess it's up to the oncologist.
Flutterby80, I've been told I will need 12 months of Herceptin but I'm not sure when that will start. I'm also really scared about loosing my hair but have decided to cut it short before I start the chemo. I'm considering the cold cap too.
I'm also worried about whether I will be able to work through the chemo and the side effects. I'm already feeling shattered after my mx.

cheeky bugger! Can't believe some people. As with the other posts I am peed off with the MacMillan ads. Just left the hospital after my mx and the hospital TV had a constant MacMillan ad..argh! Then my surgeon told me my mastectomy scar looks fantastic. Not for me mate!

Hi October girls. I'm still waiting for my chemo start date as I have just come home from hospital after my mx and don't see the oncologist until 7 October but I am presuming that I will be starting at some point in October. My BCN said to plan for every 3rd Wednesday but I feel a bit in the dark at the moment. I'm sure all will be revealed when I see the oncologist. I've got so many questions. My BCN said that I will need 12 months of herceptin too but I don't know if this starts at the same time as the chemo. It is lovely being able to speak to others who are experiencing this sh*te. I think I will feel better when I know that I have a plan as everything seems so up in the air at the moment.

I confess I never bothered checking my breasts. My husband found my lump back in January. I went to the GP and she thought it was hormonal and asked me to come back in 3 months. At 33 with no family history I wasn't worried so didn't go back until June. It took 3 biopsies and a lumpectomy for them to finally diagnose me in August with a grade 3 carcinoma and high grade DCIS but fortunately not spread. Just had the mx and awaiting everything else

Glad your op went well Goosberry girl. I was allowed to go home today. Aren't those drains a pain.
Ninja, I hope your op goes well. As Tillybob said I was told to take in a bra so the could fit me with my fake softie boob. I'm only a 32A so with the bra and my clothes on you can't really tell although it does sit a bit higher as it's not got any weight in it.
I feel surprisingly ok, not too sore really. Think the WLE hurt more but they checked my lymphs last time whereas this was just a simple mx. Get my results on 6 Oct and see the oncologist on 7 Oct.

Hope you got on ok yesterday Gooseberry Girl. I'm thinking of you. I had my MX yesterday and they have said i sshould go home today. Im suprised that this hurts less than the WLE and node clearance. I did cry for the first time last night. Think it finally hit me but am trying to focus on the way forward and getting on with the chemo. Big hugs

Thanks for the tip on the pain relief, I will bear that in mind next week. I've been to see the reconstruction nurse this pm to discuss options before the surgery on Tuesday. I've decided not to bother with a reconstruction now and I was just wondering what your thoughts are on reconstructions. I am only a 32a and may consider having an implant in the future but just want to get the mastectomy over and done with.

Hi September girls, it's reassuring to know you are getting on ok. Like Goosberrygirl my mastectomy is on 20th. They have told me I am having the op in the morning. I am debating about buying some new nightware as when I had my WLE i just stayed in the gown as I couldn't move my arm. Good tip about the IPOD. I will definately bring that this time as last time I couldn't sleep and could have done with some relaxing music.

Hi ladies, I'm joining you too. Had WLE on 23 Aug and got my results today. Sadly I didn't get clear margins (but no node involvement) and so they are doing a mastectomy on 20 Sept. I'm not too worried about the surgery but am not sure what to do about a reconstruction. What are you thinking on that front? When i had the WLE i was only in hospital overnight but am not sure how long I will be i for if I have a simple mastectomy with no reconstruction

Hi 1234, Think we come from a similar mould.I've just been getting on with things. I went to get my results this morning following my WLE and was told that they couldn't find clear margins so I now need to have a mastectom followed by chemo. My surgeon kept apologising as did the BC nurse. I'm pretty upbeat about things and am just trying to carry on as normal. There is so much going on that I don't think the last few weeks have really sunk in or I am probably in denial.
Hope you get your date through so that you can start to plan things

Good luck Jude and Ohno, big hugs. I get my results tomorrow following my lumpectomy and lymph node test and am finding it hard to concentrate at work. I feel bad for my poor hubby as while I have been holding it together at work I have been a bit snappy at home which is not like me at all.
What will be will be and we are all in this together and can have a good moan or a cry.

Thanks for all your kind words of support.It is so reassuring to know that I am not alone. Whilst my husband and friends and family are being very supportive it is great to have the opportunity to speak to ladies who are on the same emotional rollercoaster.
I think I will feel much better when I get the lymph results and the results of last week's WLE and get a treatment plan. However there has been so much information to take in over the last few weeks and I keep asking the same questions over again.
Claire, good luck with your surgery. Mine was on the 23 August despite looking a bit blue for a few hours (that's the dye they inject and it does fade pretty quick) and being a bit sore it was ok.

Hi, I am new to forums and new to breast cancer. I first found my lump back in January but my GP said that it was nothing to worry about and to come back in 3 months. I stupidly put it off and didn’t go back to my GP until June. Everyone at the breast clinic kept saying that it was probably nothing as I am only 33, an athlete and have no family history. After god knows how many scans, biopsies and surgery to remove what I presumed would be a benign lump I was finally diagnosed with BC on 11 August. Unfortunately it turned out to be a stage 3 invasive mucinous carcinoma with DCIS. I am still feeling completely overwhelmed and shell shocked. I had a wider local excision last week and sentinel node biopsy and am waiting for the results. I haven’t broken down in tears yet though and am wondering whether I am just in denial, shock or whether this is normal?
