Dear Storm Riders, I am so pleased to be five years clear of BC this week. I want to say "thank you" to you all for welcoming me on to the thread in 2009. You were all so supportive and you will never know what an important part you played in me coming to terms with the diagnosis, my treatment and recovery. I would have been lost without you all. I know not all with the diagnosis are able to celebrate five years on and I am in no way casual about my five years, my celebrations are tinged with sadness for those who did not recover. It is a cruel and indiscriminate illness. I was just lucky to have a mammogram when I did. I will never forget you, SRs. Wishing you all good health and happiness. Love from Sheila xxx

This week I am so happy to be five years free of Breast Cancer and just wanted to pop onto the site for old time's sake. Thank you to all at BCC for this wonderful facility which was a source of information, inspiration and comfort. BIG thanks to all who posted on the "Storm Rider " thread: you became my virtual friends and it was a privilege to be able to share in your journeys. Thank you for your support, good humour and sense of fun. I'll never forget the story which ran parallel to our own happenings. Sadly, the SR's are depleted now, gone but not forgotten. I don't use facebook now so not up to date but I wish you all every happiness and hope you are enjoying life. Love from Sheila xxxx

Thanks everyone for your comments. Eeyore, I have just started taking the Glucosamine with Chondroiton, it was recommended by the surgeon who performed an op for carpal tunnel syndrome a few weeks ago. I will see if it helps. Zeppa, my pain is worst around my thumbs also and can be quite an impediment. Also having trouble with opening jars etc. The surgeon also suggested a further op which could be what you have described but i am a bit reluctant to have any more hand surgery unless absolutely necessary. I will put up with it until I see my omc in a couple of months.........

I have been on Aromasin since January after a year on Tamoxifen. I am now suffering with really sore joints in my hands. Is anyone else having such problems? I wonder whether I should ask to go back on Tamoxifen, or are my aching joints simply a coincidence?

Hi just seen this post and will add my experience. My GP had put me on citalopram when I found it difficult on return to work. I later started my tamoxifen and my onc asked my GP to change me to venlafaxine as there was some research suggesting that citalopram 'could' compromise the effectiveness of the tam. She stressed that there was no firm evidence, just some research findings. However, she would prefer me to come off it.

As your posts were a few months ago I am wondering if you have had any progress with the lipo? I had a wle and reduction to good side in 2009, followed by chemo and rads. My surgeon did wonderful surgery but I always felt that she did not take very much away and I am still large. I was lucky enough to be seen by her a few months ago. She explained the difficulties connected with further traditional surgery (wound healing etc) and also the particular probs associated with surgery to the radiotherapy side. She was clearly struggling with what to do and consulted her colleague who suggested the lipo. I had a consultation with him and he went through the options again. I am keen to have the lipo but there is no assurance that the skin will retract after the procedure.
Has anyone any further experience or info? I go back to see the surgeon ina few weeks.

Hi! Well, all is fine. Had mammo and ultra sound. Both clear. The radiographer thought it was most prob a case of overlapping tissue on the original mammo. I know I was quite scared throughout the week but am so glad that they are so thorough.
Thanks Lulu for your input, lovely to have a BCN to hand!!!
Celebrating this weekend, my HT bought me a bottle of champagne so would be rude not to drink it!

Hello all
I was dx almost exactly two years ago, had wle, snb, chemo and rads. Went for my 2nd annual mammo last Friday and got my letter today:
"Further to your recent mammogram, before giving a final report it is necessary for you to attend for further views"
Anyone had a call back like this?
I am off to open a bottle of wine!!!!!

So sorry you are suffering. My onc suggested a salt water mouth wash and I took this as soon as I felt a sore mouth coming on. It really works and costs nothing. Hope you feel better soon. Sheila x
