Hi Tam,   I got my nhs wig and ended up buying another on the Internet but neither was I happy with as had relatively thin natural hair to then go to crazy thick hair just wasn't me. Thankfully I came across a charity called Heather's hair which provides hair weaves worn under a hat or scarf. They were so simple, but soooooo effective and perfect for me. Hardly ever wore my wig once I got my HH weave www.heathershair.co.uk hope you find something that you are comfortable with. Later discovered loads of you tube videos about tying scarfs . Last tip if you have a pic line in and don't like the white bandage/cover the hospital puts over it...buy a pair of pretty, colourful thick tights cut the foot and top off and hey presto you have a very fashionable arm cover. Hi I searched the Internet and brought a pair, sorry a while ago and can't remember where, however they are still sat in my drawer! Found a website heathers hair.co.uk which provides hair weaves and got one that had a long fringe so didn't see my eyebrows. Thankfully all has grown back now. Feel for you. I found wearing my wig was strange for me as it was so thick and full of hair, something my natural hair wasn't. Hi Michelle sorry don't know anything about make-up but did buy some eyebrows online which I ended up never using. But what really saved my sanity was www.heathershair.co.uk a charity that provides hair weaves to wear under a hat. I had thin hair before chemo so my very full wig just felt alien to me, but was so thankful for my HH weave that I ended up wearing everyday. All the best on your treatment. Hi If you don't get on with the cold cap - I was never offered the option - I used a charity called Heather's Hair. They provide hair weaves you wear under a hat or scarf so it looks like you have some hair still. I can not tell you how much I loved mine and it saved my sanity. I wore one the whole time a couple of years ago and found it so much more comfortable than my wig in every way. Hi there,   You could also check out www.heathershair.co.uk who provide real hair weaves on a headband to be worn under a hat/scarf and they claim they can be dyed - maybe you could have your elusive red hair after all!!!! I got a full weave from them a couple of years ago and loved it. Didn't attempt to dye it though. They are a charity and other than the £2 p&p anything else is a donation and up to you. Yes I had Fec and taxatere? My hair fell out after the first Fec chemo - it was quite a surprise as to how quick it all happened and not really knowing what to do for the best - brush not brush, wash it or not but in the end I think it was less than a week and I got it shaved off at my hairdressers as I didn't have a shaver at home. That's when I came across Heather's Hair. It started growing back once I finished the FEC and went on Taxatere. I now have a good head of hair and it's been since May 2012 I finished all the chemo but had mx and radiotherapy thereafter. It's a long journey but if you can find a routine it helps to know when you will feel your worst - I just took myself off to bed and shut the door for a couple of days each cycle I was lucky I could do that I know. Fiona00 Sorry to hear you haven't heard anything.  Have just checked with Heather's Hair I know the woman who runs it and she said she never got an email from a Fiona in the last few days. They are normally really good at getting weaves out asap. Will pm you the email and a phone number.    Wend63 yes I used fast when my hair was first coming back and my hairdresser was really impressed but not sure if she was just saying that. Am now using l'oreal Elvie Fibrology as had really fly away hair but find this thickens it up and calms it down. Also tried that Plantur 39 but didn't get on with it. Have to say it's amazing feeling your hair on the back of your neck. Never noticed it before but now if a lovely feeling!!   Anyone use an electric shaver for underarm hair? Never have but got told that they were the best as didn't nip your skin where you have no sensation. Any recommendations? Thanks. ... View more

Hi Roxie,   Was very interested in reading your wig story. I ended up buying a couple off the internet on sale and had a NHS one which was rather old fashioned. I too had them styled but they still felt like too much hair for me as I had thin hair to start with. I then came accross a charity called www.heathershair.co.uk they provide weaves on a hair band. This was just perfect for me - enough hair showing so no one knew anything was wrong with me but no so much as a wig that made me feel alien.   If anyone is going through chemo or due to start drop them an email - it's all by donation as they realise what a financial burden illness can be.   marie ...
