Hi catchpole I live alone and had a mastectomy 4 weeks ago. I had radiotherapy 2 years ago as a holidng treatment till I was strong enough for surgery. I was very lucky as I arranged for a married friend to come and stay with me from the day I got out of hospital for the next 5 days. She came without husband! Then I had different friends coming over on different days so that I had someone with me at least for a couple of hours a day. It can be bad on your own especially at night, but you will get through it. As for housework, you can either ignore the dust (it only gets to a certain thickness and no more!) or look through your local paper and arrange for someone to come once a week. When they come over, your friends are interested in seeing you not whether you have done any housework. I am happy on my own with my cat. I was married but have been on my own since 2007. I have a daughter who lives in Scotland, so she does not come down very much, but that is fine. I am 62 this year and I live in Devon. You will feel low after surgery and also because of the decisions you have yet to make. I am not having chemo because I am not allowed due to health reasons. I wish you the best for the future.
