Hello, it is a long time since I visited the website, late 2009 in fact, after I had gone through treatment of surgery and radiotherapy for a primary breast cancer in January of that year.
A week ago I was admitted to hospital with a severe chest infection and ?pulmonary embolism. Among the various tests carried out was a CT scan of my chest which doctors told me would confirm the blood clot. Results were no blood clot but secondaries found in my ribs, shoulder blade and liver. Further CT scan and a Staging Bone Scan reveal secondaries in practically all my bones except lower legs, feet, arms and hands! To say I was left reeling with shock is an understatement but when I saw the Oncologist on 6th June he told me that there were treatments, including chemo that could help reduce pain, reduce rate of spread (my words) and help me maintain a good quality of life for some time, no number of years was given. The only time scale mentioned was if I didn't have any kind of treatment I could have 6 months to a year life expectancy.
I came away from clinic with loads of information to study and help me decide on treatment and I see the Oncologist next Friday to give my decision. I guess most ladies on this list have 'been there' and wonder if you can share some things that I may expect to face during the next few months. I will be having the bone meds - the Z acid thing that is not chemotherapy.
Thanks
Hattie
