I do check in from time to time. Sadly I was diagnosed with bone mets a few months ago. This most likely came from my 2nd invasive breast cancer and not the lump discovered in 2012. Hope all the other crackers are well xxx

My onc told me that the average time for this combo to work was 18 months. So 14 months is not a bad result. Hope this gives you some reassurance.

I’d like to join this thread. Struggling a wee bit navigating the thread though. I have 2 confirmed mets in skull and spine but still don’t have any treatment plan. The mets have been there since July but it has been slow getting scan and then bone biopsy. Currently on letrosole only but I’ve got new pain in cervical spine so feel things are progressing. I’m seeing oncologist on Thursday and hope they have a treatment plan established. My worry is that the CT scan I had several weeks ago is already out of date. Hoping things don’t escalate too quickly but feeling quite fearful due to new pain in cervical spine.

Just want to follow up on this for anyone else facing a bone biopsy. I had mine last week. It was all very rushed due to the pressures of Covid on our NHS. I am so grateful for all thst our doctors and nurses are doing in very difficult times. The biopsy was to L3 vertabrae. I was quite anxious beforehand as I really didn’t know much about what was going to happen and because I had vomited in CT scanner with contrast dye last time. Luckily they didn’t need dye this time. I had local anaesthetic whilst in CT scanner which was odd. Just the usual scratch then a feeling of pressure. Not unlike anaesthetic for dental work. I was lying face down so couldn’t see anything. I had to lie very still and it took some time to carry out procedure. At one point I though it was complete but was told by surgeon that I’d hear a drill during procedure. That was terrifying. But it was short lived and there was absolutely no pain. Afterwards I stayed in hospital in a bed for a few hours before discharge. No pain relief needed. I am awaiting my results. I just hope they get a definitive answer to the type of mets I have because I really need to get started on treatment. My back is getting more achy and I’m worried about future pain and debilitation. I don’t think I’ll be entitled to any benefits when I get to the point where I can’t work. Anyway, I’m posting for anyone else facing a bone biopsy. Fear aside, it was a painless and quick procedure and I felt I was in very good hands throughout.

I’ll check with oncologist when I get biopsy results (if it goes ahead today-massive problems getting a bed). I did eventually find an article which said, as long as calcium levels are ok it can be prescribed with Zometa. Still not entirely sure why. Maybe because Zometa can lower calcium in the blood.

Thank you Jan, you’ve been a great help in your replies. I’m with you on the mammograms! My first invasive breast cancer didn’t show and it was only then I learned they were not always accurate esp in denser, younger breasts. Thankfully an astute doctor felt the lump and an ultrasound confirmed. The thing I’m most upset about is that I thought early screening would prevent the situation I find myself in. It hasn’t. I presented early due to family history. If I could turn the clock back I would've asked for a double mastectomy in 2006 when DCIS was picked up.

Hi, just a quick query. Is it usual to be prescribed calcium supplements with Zometa? I took it when receiving preventative Zometa after primary diagnosis but have now been prescribed it with my most recent infusion subsequent to secondary diagnosis. I was having a wee google just to find out why it was taken with Zometa and found an article that said it shouldn’t be taken as could encourage damaging bone activity, HOWEVER, the article (scientific paper) was published in 2004 so it may no longer be accurate. Just wondering if those on here with bone secondaries are taking adcal along with infusion. I’m sure my onc is on top of things but I’m kinda in between primary and secondary treatments as I await bone biopsy to identify which of my primaries triggered the secondaries. Thanks in advance.

angel eyes, I didn’t get a pre scan drink. It was def the contrast dye because I felt the warm feeling reach my stomach and immediately I started to vomit. Truly horrible.

Unfortunately when injected with contrast at recent CT scan I started vomiting until my stomach emptied. Has anyone got any tips for avoiding this? It hasn’t happened before. According to articles I’ve read anti emetics don’t work. I wonder if fasting would help.

I am due to see oncologist this week immediately after CT scan. I think they feel I’ve waited long enough and we need to get moving. My bone scan showed increased activity in skull (where a bone lump has developed) and L5 spine. I suspect it is elsewhere in my skeleton. I feel it is spreading quickly as I’ve gone from feeling well ,a month ago, to feeling weak and sore now. I have had 2 primary breast cancers both hormone positive but the first was HER2+ and the second was -ve. My question is, how can they decide on treatment without a biopsy of bone. I’m going to phone bcn tomorrow as I am desperate to lessen any delays. Has anyone experienced this? Looking for advice if possible.

@FindingDory Just wanted to say hello. I was also on August 2020 Chemo thread and remember your posts. I now find myself here but in limbo as haven’t had my official diagnosis or treatment plan yet so dont know how extensive my mets are as yet. One definite lesion on forehead and likely spine and pelvis. Shocked to the core atm. Hope you are coping x

Thanks for reply. I’ve had bone scan and despite being promised results I have not been contacted. CT scan in 3 weeks. So it seems I will be waiting well over a month to get any sort of results. Is this a normal wait time?
