I have had 8/18 herceptin and side effects so far: Flaky fragile fingernails Dry mouth and weird tongue Fatigue, much worse for 24 hours after Herceptin Itching to arms and legs I know I shouldn't complain and I'm normally a very positive person, but there are the occassional days when I feel really down and fed up I tell myself I'm nearly half way through now so I will soon be finished. The odd thing is that in a strange way I almost look forward to going to hospital every 3 weeks because I feel as though something is still being done which reassures me. I am currently having Herceptin and Tamoxifen and my nails are dreadful. They continually split and break and are generally very weak. I use nail strengthener but it doesn't seem to do anything. I also get really sore split areas on the tips of my fingers and thumbs. Small price to pay in the grander scheme of things but still a pain! ... View more

Michele, I can relate completely with what you are saying. Since I was diagnosed in Feb 2013,my brother became very poorly in June, my uncle (whom I was very close to) passed away in January this year and my father in law was diagnosed with rectal cancer two weeks ago. A couple of years ago, I would have fallen apart with all this but now I think that nothing can ever be as bad as being told I had cancer and after that, everything else, though really awful, is doable. Well, I attended hospital this morning. Had 4 different aspects of mammogram pictures taken and 2 ultrasounds by 2 different Consultant Radiographers and GOOD NEWS!!!!! The "suspicious" area is a gland/fatty tissue not a new breast cancer. Can't tell you how relieved I am. Time to celebrate I think. Thanks for the kind words and support ladies xxx ... View more

Thanks Fresia and Lulu for your kind words. My breast care team are excellent and really on the ball which is reassuring. My BCN actually told me not to worry about the speed of the ultrasound and that it was by no means that I was being fast tracked but they had slotted me in on Wed so I do'nt have to wait too long. I'm trying not to worry too much though thats easier said than done, didn't sleep too bad considering. I'm really scared to think positive in case its not good news. To be honest, I feel for my loved ones as much as anything, they don't deserve to be put through this again. The really sad thing is that I had my surgery on my son's birthday last year (11th March) which was hard. Ironically, it's the same time of year only next week he is 21! I can't put him through this waiting game again so have decided not to tell him anything yet. Fresia, do you mind me asking what happened with you as you say you were in a similiar position. Hi Venice25 I was diagnosed 7th March 2013 and completed my chemo and radio last Oct. I had my first mammogram last week (26th Feb).Feeling bit scared now waiting for results. Hope this helps x ... View more
