Hi been on gem carbo for mets in nodes triple negative had scan in Jan no mets detected and April scan no change but saying stable in comparison with Jan ct scan does this mean no change ???

Clarissa - you ARE affected!!!! When one of us gets cancer, the whole family gets cancer. Everyone has to live with it, deal with it, cope with it, get fed up with it, not cope with it, laugh about it, cry about it....
I agree with everything Lavender has said (she's a wise old owl!)(sorry, Lavender, less of the old!)
Your mum and you will need your dad in respite care during treatment too. Chemo affects us all differently, but the first week after the treatment can be hard.
My cancer, 2 years ago, brought my daughter and I so much closer. She, bless her, thought of things like taking a day off before my mastectomy to go shopping for bras with pockets (and made it a fun girly day out)...She was just quietly there and thoughtful, and I cannot find the words to say how much I appreciated that.
Sounds like your mum is lucky to have you on her side...

Thankyou all for you lovely advice which i will take on dearly.
Its proberly the fact she doesnt want to worry me 🙂 Time i think is what we need to all deal with the matter and maybe eventually find out whats going on 🙂 There is no rush in the matter and hope soon she will give me the details in her own time 🙂

Look Good Feel Better is really good, and the wonderful gift bag includes some very expensive brands of cosmetics.
Perhaps one of the best aspects of LGFB is meeting other women going through the same thing at the same time.

PS There is a VERY long thread about Top Tips for Chemo somewhere - no one needs ALL the advice there but you could try wading through it- or just ask questions as they arise. It sounds as if she will have good back up but maybe you could do with coming back here and asking again.

It really must be great to have some help with the research as she can avoid that spiral into panic that can afflict us when we read something scarey.
The diagnosis section on the web page that old and lumpy gave you is really helpful, with questions to ask when they have more results of tests in. This bit that we call "The Waiting Room" really is worse than getting on with the treatment.
I am 66, had an IDC diagnosed last year with mammography screening, 13 mms Grade 3, Triple Negative. I couldn't feel it even when I was told it was there.
As I couldn't have radiotherapy because of other medical problems, I had a mastectomy and axillary clearance, all nodes were clear and went on to have chemotherapy with FEC6. Finished in January and now am back to my previous levels of energy and have a reasonable head of hair again.
We all have slightly different details which make our treatment different- they really do seem to tailor the treatemnt to the individual.
Wishing your Mum good progress through it all, and she has started off well by having such a lovely daughter

Thank u everyone for amazing replies already. these have really helped calm me Disney a bit. its so reassuring to know that this is the worst time and that it will get easier, my mum is strong and i know she can fight this so i will keep on pushing her!

just a thought but after mums appointment when she will hopefully get good news would it be possible to speak to her BCN or consultant and discuss yours fears with them.... there is support for families too... not sure if you have a maggies centre where you are but they are really good and have one to one counselling for patients and families.... and of course the helpful nurses on the helpline here on BCC.
fingers crossed for mums results and hope you can find some inner strength to help your through.....
PS have you thought about speaking to your GP or even occy health at work?

Well we had the appointment with mums oncologist this afternoon.
Mummy has estrogen receptor negative BC. They said the tumour was 8 cms and that 15 out of 17 lymph nodes were affected, they graded the cancer as T4 N3 M0, both her bone scan and ct scans are clear.
I've had to look that up on the net to see what it means.
They've said that chemo would only make a difference of about 5% and because of all her other health problems including asthma and high bp, they don't think it's worth the risk, for now anyway, if things were to spread they would only consider her for a 1 drug chemo as opposed to the usual 3 combi.
Her radiotherapy is due to start in about 3 weeks. She's feeling great, healing well and enjoying her grand kids!
When we were with the oncologist I had a load of questions about prognosis, life expectency etc, but once I'd looked at mummys face when they said the scans were clear, I decided I didn't want her to hear,and they didn't volunteer.
So for now we're happy the scans are good and we'll just take it as it comes x

Dear Mark,
Hoping that your Mum is getting through the tests OK. The fact that she seems to be coping better than the rest of you seems to suggest that she is relieved to have told you all at last. I found telling my sons, not much younger than you, absolutely the hardest part of all of this, but have also found their support since has been one of the best bits. My husband has been great throughout, but I feel could have done with more support himself, so great to hear that you are there for your Dad as well.
Just make sure that you leave some time for you to relax with your OH, to look after yourself and her.
