Wow.... I've been out for a meal to celebrate sons birthday, not one mention all night of BC, being poorly, doing too much, or looking really well all things considered...it was fabulous!!!!
The cake is covered in chocolate buttercream icing, and decorated with giant cadbury's buttons, maltesers and marshmallows. It's a gazillion calories a slice, but it's all right because there's also a small bag of crisp green salad. Do you think this is enough to feed the 21 people coming tomorrow??? It's been really nice to concentrate on something joyful and put the whole cancer thing on a back burner for a bit...

Oh yes, it is awful! Apparently there's something in pineapple that helps, I certainly found the taste to be quite nice in a world of everything else tasting nasty. Brushing your teeth more often can help, and if you can bear it get one of those tongue brushes too, or a very soft baby brush, and VERY gently brush your tongue. And the mouthwash left a masking flavour which disguised it for a bit (I used Oraldene)
Have you tried chewing mint gum, or fruit sweets like fruitella...sometimes they disguised it long enough to give me a break.
My chemo finished in may but oh boy do I remember this SE!!!
Just think though, it's blasting that cancer to smithereens...
Ps your food list sounds like mine Zoe, so maybe try mango too? And orange juice with lime in it. Hang on in there Hun, it ends.... X

Well, it got worse, hot and painful, and then it started to feel much better. Worried in case it was an infection (although stupidly this didnt occurr to me until it was feeling better!) so I dropped in at my hospital breast care unit today, lovely nurse says I've probably just overdone it but got appt for tues and emergency contact numbers for the weekend just in case. Got told off for carrying hand bag briefly in that hand, so maybe going back to work early was a bad idea...think I'll stay off a bit longer.

Lol ladies, loving the dance of the 40 cardis!! Dentists....eurgh, not good with teeth and pain...
Son missed his grades by 20 points, clearing doesn't seem to have what he really wants so we are thinking out of the box (got that phrase from a friend in management, good innit?!) and finding lots of alternatives for him, basically a year or two out to take a different exam course which will stand him in excellent position for his chosen uni course..(which is something to do with maths, computers and AI / robotics...don't ask me, I'm a dressmaker!) He's 18 tomorrow, how did that happen??
Better go make birthday cake, chocolate rocky road with chocolate icing!

Oh and smear result came back normal :)... Nice to have a clear result in something!

Just rang my insurers (we have a rolling 12 month holiday insurance wotsit) and I am covered ok for everything....unless it's connected to my BC. Huh???? Is this normal? Thank heaven we're going to Calais, if I feel poorly we'll nip on the channel crossing pdq

Just settled myself on the think my son's missed his uni grades bench...he knows he's got a B in maths but has had to go in to sixth form to find out about further maffs and physics, and he's sure he failed physics! I'm incredibly proud of him, he has diabetes (and a fear of needles, not a good combination), I was diagnosed in jan just as full scale revision and exam prep started and yet he's got a good result in a subject I could never get to grips with...unfortunately the courses he wants are all AAB. I hope he can see what he's achieved rather than thinking he's failed....

Had skin sparing mx with immediate implant recon nearly 5 weeks ago, it's been fine till now...well, that weird mix of numb/tender/scratchy... But tonight it really aches, the rib area behind the implant and just below too. How long before these new boobs settle down and behave?? I am very tired tonight too, hot and bothered...think I might have pushed a bit too far today, been walking and working and cooking and housework and it's a warm day (even warmer with my tropical moments!)

I'm on the 'been a good girl and had my smear test done' bench. Lovely nurse was just reading my notes as I arrived, she obviously didn't want to distress me by saying "cancer" or "mastectomy" but we managed quite a nice chat along the lines of "and how are you feeling after the ummmmmm, errrr, op? " along with a running commentary about my cervix being hard to reach. Bless her!!

Hi all!! It's a minefield isn't it, and so confusing at times! Rev cat very kindly gave me the good advice she posts above when I first joined this forum (oooh, all of a fortnight ago!!) , namely that "if you decide x, and the cancer returns, will you wish you'd decided y instead?" it's been a good rule of thumb... At the moment it helps me balance joy in the life I have today and trust in the life I hope to be protecting for tomorrow. I know it's all too easy for my friends to say it's the quality of life that matters, not it's length....but I'm 45. Rather selfishly I want both!

Thanks ladies, I'm not bothered by the lack of nipple at all but a couple of my non BC friends thought it was strange to not want one...maybe you don't know till you're there. So I'm pleased to read that I'm not weird after all!! Actually the stick on ones sound like a good compromise. 🙂
Hadn't found the word games Val, will have a look for them. It's nice just to be able to chat to ladies who understand how you feel without having to explain all the time!!

When I had my biopsy the doctor carrying it out (who had just done the ultrasound too) said "I think this may be Something rather than Nothing, but whatever it is we will look after you"... So I sort of knew. Still an agonising wait though...
Netfan have you had some paracetamol or other pain relief, it does ease after a while but no need to suffer x
