Hi Jo, sorry cant help with your query as I was 62 when I was diagnosed, so much for TN mostly affecting younger people 🙂 I had a little blip after my 3rd chemo,but only one day when I felt exhausted, then you think half way now, wont be long ! Hello ladies, it's a while since I have been on the forums. I was diagnosed in April 2006. With a 5cm lump, which was triple negative, no lymph nodes involved. I had lumpectomy, 6xEC, which wasn't too bad for side effects, 15 radiotherapy, and have now just had my final mammogram of my 5 year check up. All is well, so I have been discharged from follow up. Hi geordielass, I am a Teesside lass, and understand how you feel I was dx 2006, lumpectomy, chemo, rads, and lymphnode renmoval. I too suffer from random shooting pains in my arm, and continuos numbness. I have to be careful in shops in case I knock things off the shelves !! The rads have made my breast feel very tight and uncomfortable.and I have lots of fribrosis as a result. I tried some strong meds but I was zonked out, so on passed om them Some days are worse than others, and it does get me down at times. Hi Liverbird, nice to see you posting again, you were one of the first girls to reply to a post of mine nearly 3.5 years ago. Like you I still fear the return of this dreadful disease, but it is not in my mind every day. My friend has just been diagnosed and had a mastectomy and reconstruction 2 weeks ago, I hope to give her a lot of support, I know how much I appreciated the support I got on this forum. I finished my treatment in 2006, I have stabbing pains and a burning sensation, and numbness, along with heaviness in my arm too. At first it was thought it may be lymphoedema, but now it has been suggested it is a nerve pain, caused by damage during surgery. I did try amitryptiline for this, but it made me very groggy, so I went back to ordinary pain killers . I doubt this will ever improve now, some days it seems worse then others ... View more

Hi girls, like you I am also an ex nurse, diagnosed in 2006, triple negative. Had surgery , chemo and rads. Sorry to see you have joined this club Susan, none of us would be here by our own choice ! Believe me you will get through this,it just puts a hold on your life for a few months, Make your travel plans for later in the year. Life wont be quite the same as it was, but you will gradually get better. Like most of you I was given a card with numbers for contact, but apart from the intial diagnosis and post surgery, none have ever contacted me. One of trhe BCN runs the lymphodema clinic which I was referred to, and she is excellant on that side of care Marge ... View more

Hi Alise, I understand lymphodema can develope anytime after surgery. Mine started with hand swelling, just after surgery in 2006, I also have some breast lymphodema. I was given advice on skin care massage and a pressure sleeve to wear while on rads treatment, also on a long haul flight. Just been discharged from the lympho clinic as it is no better, no worse. My unaffected arm is 7% bigger than my affected arm, explain that one 🙂 I do get aching around my elbow area, and a feeling of heaviness, so I will continue to take care. sorry I cant be more helpful Hope all goes well for you Marge ... This time last year I was making up for the bad xmas I had the previous year , having just finished treatment and thinking my end was nigh 😞 I had a ball of a time, and intend to have the same this year. Hi Doogle, I had several core biopsies which came back ok, but the docs were not happy and eventually after the 3rd biopsy which was mammogram guided they found the malignancy. I was told that because the lump was hard, the biopsy needle was bouncing of it and just dragging out the healthy tissue. I am so glad they persisted. I then went on to have chemo and rads. Irene I am excited for you too, I know you will be aprehensive about the future, but just because OH treats you badly it doesn't mean you have to put up with it. When I was dx my OH was away abroad visitinr relatives, he new bfore he went about my investigations, I had my op , my friends took me to hossie and visited, my sons all came home, for the initial few days, and OH evetually turned up 5 weeks later 😞 It was hard, but I got over it, and you will too. Irene, I am so sorry to read of your situation, we have both been on this website a long time, and I have followed lots of your posts. could you perhaps get in touch with Macmillan and see if they may be able to offer you some financial help if you decide to moev out. I can understand how stressful it would be for you, start looking at your options. I had lots of OH problems on diagnosis, and I cant forgive him for what he did at the time, but I have learned to live a seperate lifestyle and enjoy myself . Vallota, radiotherapy is a dawdle, the appointment is short, you don't feel anything apart from a tingling. Depending on the number of treatments you have, I had 15, the worst part of all was waiting for the machine. Sometimes you can develop a redness but the staff will give you creams to apply at your first visit. Good luck with your treatments Marge ... View more
