Hi Peacock What a shame - would have loved to meet up for coffee! Another time maybe. Still on a steroid high at the moment and feeling better than last time, actually (could be something to do with not turning up with a hangover this time for chemo - it was only a slight fat head really, but I don't think it helped AT ALL) - still it could be the calm before the storm. Don't mind the heat at all actually - never have. I have Raynaud's syndrome, so I'm basically very happy with the climate here. Fingers crossed the thrush will stay under control this time round, though. All the best for Tues - this PC is playing up again, so if there's silence from me for a while it could be either the Taxotere or the hard drive! I'll be thinking of you. hi Vallota, Its a lovely poem, I have seen poems shared on this site, I am not sure how many are orginal though. I think your poem has given me insight to how it feels to get notice of possible BC via letter. I was lucky, I felt my lump and knew deep down it was BC so when the Consultant told me I was well prepared. Like Marge I found radiotherapy easy to cope with. Sharon - I'm so sorry to hear this - but they will get them out and get you sorted. My sister had all hers out eight years ago and is still fine - with no lymphodoema. It's a b****dy pain though, no question. Come on here and moan when you need to. Looby x ... View more

You are right that this is all good news. They can only tell for sure after the operation, but it sounds like it has been diagnosed very early, which means as I am sure you know that your wife's survival chances will be high. My 1st thought when the consultant told me I had BC was 'Chris (my 18 yr old son) doesn't know how to program the washing machine' I got home and got busy getting stuff organised for when I would be in the hospital ... not for when I was going to die cos I never had any intention of doing that.... come to think of it I never did get round to teaching my son how to program the washing machine. It's normal to want to get as much done as you can ... it also acts as a distraction and stops you sitting thinking 'I've got BC' I got my dx on the Thursday morning - told work that afternoon and they instructed me to take the Friday off ... they were happy for me to just start sick leave there and then but I insisted on going to work the following week. It does get better and you will get through this. ... View more

I work for the NHS and have had my ill-health retirement request turned down, despite having bone mets and letters of support from my GP and oncologist (who said he would give 'worst case scenarios' to make my future look bleak). My other pension from Rothmans (the cigarette manufacturers) however paid out immediately, with no quibble. So in my opinion, the so called caring profession doesn't actually care at all about me. maybe we should start a looking for ideal job thread. I'm only 2 months post dx and still got some treatment to go and at the end of last year I started my perfect job, and I do mean perfect, top of my game etc and as a web developer it's easy to get behind very quickly so I'm more scared of losing my career than anything else right now which I know is very unbalanced. I haven't seen my onc yet but being triple neg I know that chemo may very well be on the cards and the idea of not being able to work for 6 months scares the heeby jeebies out of me so I seriously considered saying no if I'm offered it, how mad is that maybe. So please give yourself a break, these are very real feelings you're having and it's probably going to take a bit more time that you're prepared to wait, at least that what I'm reckoning. So what rough area of the country are you, and what job would you like. You never know the fates may bring something to you, it does happen. ... View more
