If you can keep active and avoid comfort eating (definitely harder for me during the pandemic) you can definitely lose weight on tamoxifen. The recommended 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise (or 75 minutes of more intense exercise) definitely helps. That's a couple of walks or online cardio / Zumba / HIIT classes a week.

Hello! I wanted to check in and see how you are feeling now. Has the pain subsided? I'm in the exact same boat--stage 1 in 2013 with bilateral mastectomy. stage 1 recurrence in 2018 at the 5-year celebration mark. stage 1 recurrence in 2019 with redo of the mastectomy. I've chosen strength over length to be fully present emotionally to my family. Now the new oncologist has made a logical case for tamoxifen based on his concern for distant recurrence. But I am strong and love life. And...EVERYONE I know on the drug has significant pain but the studies still only mention 10% of women struggling with joint pain. Maybe I know all of them? 🙂 So when I read your post, it felt familiar. I hope your journey has taken a turn toward pain-free living.

My sister has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has had a lumpectomy. She has also had a biopsy on her lymph nodes to see if the cancer has spread. She is now waiting to hear the results and is seeing the consultant on Monday. I can only hope and pray that the results will be good. In any event she will have to have a course of radiotherapy, probably starting at the end of November. My thoughts are with everybody who is having to cope with cancer, whichever sort it is. I have lost two friends recently, one with liver cancer and the other with breast cancer. It is a horrible, cruel disease.

Mum passed away peacefully at home on 29 March, with all her family around her.
She is missed every moment of every day.

In addition to all the other advice, remember that you need support too. Maybe go out for a pint/game of golf/snooker/footie or whatever with a friend just occasionally to give yourself a bit of you time. I'm sure your wife will also try to do the same with her friends when she is feeling well.

My gran had bc and a mastectomy aged 71.....she had had it for a while before I think. She died 9 years later when I was 11 of it.
My mum, who i did not see much of after I was 14 died 6 years ago having never been to a doctor. BC was found to be the cause but I was not told until genetic testing commenced this year as myself and my daughter both have it (49 & 26 at dx this year)
My mum was i believe scared....and hated doctors. If she had only gone and had the mammo she was called for we could all of been spared a lot of suffering. However it was her choice and one has to just accept that people choose different paths.....

I so identify with you but for me it was my dad. He had always been there for me, through thick and thin. My dad was always there when I needed help etc, I was so close to him.
When he was given a terminal prognosis of 5 months I was in bits. Panick attacks etc. I was walking about at 3 am in the morning. I couldn't sleep. It's worse for the on-lookers than those who are actually going through it.
I feel for you - I really do.
