Evening ladies I've just read your posts thinking Cambridge isn't far from me, I'm in Hitchin. I finished rads in january after chemo and am back at work now, struggling sometimes with the tiredness that hits you like a brick wall. If you're talking about meeting up sometime in my area i'd love to join you. Hi Ducky Yes I find my ribs are sore, mentioned it at my check up. I assumed it was from the radiotherapy. We were in somerset over easter, had a lovely walk up on the Quantocks. morning all, Am down in Somerset and have managed to get the computer from my son. Spent the day with my mum yesterday at a spa and feel thoroughly relaxed and chilled. |I've had my hair dyed now and feel so much better with normal hair colour. I'll be leaving on the saturday about 1pm, when the car is free and I think it will take me about 2 hours so would love to meet in the afternoon as well. Hi My lump was grade 2 and very oestrogen positive (8/8), I was only put on tamoxifen, never heard any mention of having both. There was a question as to whether I could have tamoxifen at the start because of the risk of blood clots and my family history, in which case I would have had zoladex or ovaries removed, but in the end they decided I would be okay to have tamoxifen. ... Evening all, Well I've had a good day, firstly my first mammogram was clear, just got back from over 2 hours waiting but didn't mind when they said those lovely words, also got examined and okay. I also got my hair dyed to honey blonde and I'm really chuffed with it, she put some wax in and fluffed it up a bit and I think now just passes as a normal trendy haircut. will try and update my photo later. Val, I did put a rinse on my hair but didn't seem to look any different, but (can't wait) going to have my hair coloured on wednesday. It's a hairdresser that close to public two mornings and deal with cancer patients, either before they lose their hair or after, no charge, but I'm going to hand over my 2 wigs and all my scarves that I can't wait to get rid off. Can't wait to be a blonde again!! Although, I have hospital appointment in the afternoon to get the results of my mammogram, which I'm worried about and keep thinking the worse especially as my ribs are sore if I touch them under my boob, but I think they'll probably/hopefully say it's a result of the radiotherpy. ... Mavis really glad you can make it now, it wouldn't have been the same without seeing you ST yes I am okay with all foods, just need to get rid of my sweet tooth I'm shattered at the moment, broke up yesterday for easter holidays, but have had a really hard week with the boy I look after, he's been impossible! and had a few evenings out, so really tired yesterday evening, but did manage to go to the gym this morning and did some running! but now had a very lazy day just pottering and reading. I've got some good weeks coming up, YS birthday on thursday then going to somerset to my parents for easter and having a day at the health farm with my mum (Cedar Falls Ducky if you've heard of it) and then not long till we all meet up. Hi Just read your post about the LGFB in Cambridge. I had no trouble with them at all last year, rang them up and got offered choices of a few courses within a couple of months so ended up doing one after my second chemo, so they must be really busy now ... View more

Gabbylamb Just read your message and need to tell you, you will get through this, I was in the august thread and can't believe i finished chemo in november, rads in january and am now back working my normal hours. I work in a school and yes I am tired in the evening (or rather shattered) but to me I have my old life back, I've started going back to the gym and doing classes, I've ditched the wig and have a very short Judi Dench hairstyle, which I'm always being complimented on(?). I am finding it hard now as it's a year since I was diagnosed and am waiting my first mammogram results, but I feel more like my oldself, so you will get there and think back - did I really ahve to go through all that. I'm looking forward to 10 of us from the august thread meeting up at the end of april, so I can put a face to all the names that helped me through those tough months Valkxx ... View more

I've put a current photo on as I had to e-mail my mum a photo as she hasn't seen me with hair and is trying to visualise what it looks like from my description. Today seems to be a very long day and dragging. I'm not doing to well at the moment, I think because I'm getting the results from my mammogram in 10 days so worrying about that and also this time last year was when I was diagnosed and waiting to have my first op so I'm spending a lot of time thinking back and going over those conversations with the doctors and having to tell people. But, on a positive I am thinking it's not long till we all meet up! Traditional english food for our french exchange - roast chicken and roast potatoes with yorkshirse. Morning all, I'm back from the gym and feel as if I'm starting to get fitter now, not so tired after work every day, just occasionally. I haven't worn my wig now for 2 weeks and it's lovely, had a lot of positive comments from people who actually prefer my hair like this!! the colour seems to be 'softening' as well and turning browner, only got to last 10 days and then i'm having it coloured at a hairdressers that close to the public 2 mornings and just deal with cancer patients (hate saying that word) Our french exchange student is here now and the two boys seem to get on well Have a lovely day all Valk ... Hi I've gatecrashed on your thread and have noticed that some of you seem to be having your chemo at Lister in Stevenage. I had my chemo there last autumn and have to say the nurses are excellent there. I've think you've all found that once you've got the first one over with and dealt with the SE's you then know what to expect, I also found the hair issue was a big worry but once I had made the decision to have it shaved short to 1cm I didn't have the sore head any more. You will get through everything, it is doable, I finished chemo in november and had radiotherapy at Mount Vernon in December and January and am now back at work doing my normal hours (I work in a primary school so very tiring) Good luck to you all ... Heather - yes, who from choice would go this short!! It's good to read that we are all starting to improve and feel better, although I know we all have our bad days still but we're all getting there Frantic in our house as we have a french exchange student coming tonight, a 14yr old, so been out shopping and tried asking my son what he eat when he was there and the answer "don't know, can't remember". Only week and a half then easter holidays, I am so ready for a break from school and we are going to my parents in Somerset for a few days. ST - I'm wigless now and don't think my hair is much longer than yours, some bits are just over the top of my ears, but it is thick all over and straight, much lighter in colour though. I'm getting a lot of comments from parents at school that they love my hair short, (are they just being nice!) and when I say it's not by choice they don't seem to know what I'm talking about I'm actually starting to feel more my old self since 10 days ago, yes I have days off being down and thinking to much and my energy is starting to improve, I'm actually going to the gym again tonight as well as last night Valk ... Hi I started chemo last July and told my sons (14 and 16) that I was going to lose my hair. I told them on the day I was going to have it shaved off and that I would start wearing scarves and wigs and then appeared in them, I would not have let them see me having my hair shaved off, I found it hard and I would not have expected them to see it after, unless they asked to. I chose not to ask waht they thought, although my mum did ask my older son and he said he didn't like me going out with them in a scarf. I then mentioned to them about a month ago that my hair was growing back and that soon I would get it coloured. The response was a typical teenagers, just a grunt. I stopped wearing scarves indoors about 2 weeks ago and just appeared like taht, didn't tell them and didn't ask them anything and today is my first day of going to work without a wig!! (I work in a primary school so am dreading the questions and looks). My boys are very quiet and shy and I told them what they needed to know, but didn't want to scare them. Morning Lovely weather in Hertfordshire. Went for a walk down to the town, without my wig - it is no longer being worn, it was lovely feeling the wind on my head and the sun and actually being able to move my head around freely, my OH was laughing at me as i got so excited!! Just got work and the children to deal with tomorrow. My hair, which went from white to white and black, now seems to be turning a more even colour and brownish. I will try and update my photo. The David HOckney exhibition was absolutly fantastic and I think even the children really enjoyed it. I was shattered though when I got home Valk ... View more
