Oh honey you poor thing, I know exactly what you are going through. I was diagnosed with grade 3 in August last year when 34 weeks pregnant. I was induced at 36 weeks and unfortunately my baby had to spend 2 weeks in scbu, we had 3 days with him home before I started chemo. Between surgeon, myself and husband we opted for chemo then surgery. Turned out to be the right move as I responded really well and chemo shrunk my lump so much I only needed a WLE. I couldn't cope with 2 major surgeries within weeks of each other.
It is really really hard but it is doable. Take all the help offered (there will be loads) from friends and family. I only found out later that my local college have students that go out and help mums in their homes. They are usually in last year of childcare courses and are crb checked but it might help for a few hours a week.

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this so apologies if it breaks any rules. My aunt makes nightshirts for breast surgery, she came up with the idea after her daughter's surgery and I used them when I had WLE and lymph node removal earlier this year. They are really comfortable and come with poppers down side so that drains are easily accessilble. It is such a good product and no-one really knows about them which is such a shame. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to recommend these nightshirts but they are from Bosom Pals. My aunt makes them and I found them really comfortable after surgery. They provide you with a bit of dignity as you don't have to get everything out when they check your wound. They have poppers down either left or right side depending on your op side, so that drains can be easily poked through. http://www.facebook.com/bosom.nightshirt

Hi Lon, I was diagnosed when I was 32 weeks pregnant and started chemo when my son was 2 weeks old, I have a 2 year old as well. First of all the healthcare professionals weren't really much help, we are luckily (or unluckily)in the minority so there isn't much info or help they could give me.
My friends and family were amazing and its important to know that those who have offered help mean it so take up any help. My husbands work have been amazing and he has been able to take as much time of as necessary without losing any pay. I appreciate we are really lucky and other employers may not be so generous.
I got a small amount of benefit money, ask Macmillan for advice, and this has paid for a cleaner to come and zap the place.
As someone else suggested, lie on the sofa and enjoy newborn cuddles whilst someone else changes bums, feeds or even takes baby out for a walk.

Hi, I was diagnosed in Aug when I was pregnant. I now have a 4 month old and a 2 year old. I know exactly how you feel it is such a rollercoaster but I found it much easier once I had more info about the cancer and a treatment plan. I've just finished chemo and am booked in for lumpectomy (wide local excision) and lymph node removal in a couple of weeks.
My friends and family have been amazing and I wouldn't have got through it if it weren't for them. Take all the help offered. My toddler has been great the stuff she comes out with, I caught her trying on one of my wigs the other day, I haven't laughed like I did for some months!!

Hi Fran, tbh you just get on with it and somehow manage. I don't know what to suggest re money, are you entitled to any benefits? It may be worth contacting the helpline who may be able to point you in the right direction. I went to macmillan who found one benefit, it's not much but it does help.
It is hard to let go but if others have offered to help take them up, now is the time you need your family and friends around you. I don't know what I would have done without all the offers it really does make life a lot easier.

I've only just found this part of the forum and wanted to briefly share my story.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 DCIS lymph node involvement at 32 weeks pregnant last year. Luckily I was in quite late in 3rd trimester so we all decided that inducing the baby at 34 weeks would be the best course of action, before I started chemo. The birth didn't exactly go to plan and I ended up with an emergency section and my little boy spent nearly 2 weeks in special care. We got 3 days at home with him before I started chemo!!
Anyway I'm about to start my (hopefully) final chemo tomorrow. At my last scan my lump has shrunk to just under 1cm and they have had to place a wire marker in my boob to mark the area in case it vanishes altogether. I'm seeing surgeon next week to discuss what happends next.
I just wanted to give others hope and say that yes it is hard, it is a complete and utter shock but it is doable.

I'm currently undergoing chemo, I was diagnosed when I was pregnant and had to be induced at 34 weeks. Mine are 12 weeks and 2. The last chemo session has been the hardest by far and it has really hit me. You have to accept help where it is offered. I have received a small amount of benefit money and it helps pay for a cleaner once a week. It's just one less thing to think about.
I feel guilty and a terrible mother sometimes, my little boy gets to go to GP surgeries and hospitals, my 2 year old went swimming, tumble tots, rhyme time etc. At least he will be too young to remember and I will make it up to him one day.

Hi, so much has happened in the last few weeks. Jake William was induced at 36 weeks, didn't go to plan ended up having an emergency section under GA as my placenta abruped. Jake spent nearly 2 weeks in special care as he had difficulty breathing. He is safe at home with us now and thriving. Tomorrow would have been his due date and he is 4 weeks old already.
I started chemo nearly 2 weeks ago and after 10 days of not having too many problems was admitted at the weekend as my c-section wound became infected and I developed mastitis as well. I'm home now after some iv antibiotics. Today my hair has started to fall out which has really hit me hard. I knew it was coming and it was the bit I was dreading.

Hi Swissmiss, they haven't discussed c-section but I want to avoid it probably as much as they do, however, I would rather it were a planned than emergency section so if induction doesn't work then I will be asking the question. With my first I was in for 4 days before I had her so we are expecting a long stay again!! Luckily mother in law only lives around the corner.
I don't know anything else about the cancer apart from grade 3, 26mm and affecting lymph nodes. Not sure if the results are back yet.
US went well, the sonographer said it all looked normal. Of course they didn't say anything about the x-ray as I think they just take the picture and check everything is viewable. Crossing fingers there is nothing else, but I am sure I would be ill by now which I'm not so looking on the positive side.

I've just found this part of the forum and wanted to say hello.
I'm 39 and currently 34 weeks pregnant and have a 20 month daughter. I was diagnosed with ductal invasive bc, grade 3 with lymph node involvement about a week ago. I've just got my treatment plan.
I'm going to be induced at 36 weeks, baby is a good weight so it shouldn't be a problem. After the birth I'm going to start chemo, not sure when as waiting for oncologist (hate that word) appt. Hopefully this will shrink the lump, currently 26mm, and I will only require a lumpectomy after chemo has finished.
I've had such a range of emotions, rangining from deep despair to joy at being able to meet my little baby sooner rather than later. My friends and family have all been amazing and I feel truly blessed to have them around me.
I just wanted to say hello and I can see you are all amazing already, gives me strength and hope.

Just wanted to say hello. I've been diagnosed just over a week with grade 3 aggressive ductal invasive bc with lymph node. I'm 39 and currently 34 weeks preg and have a 20 month dd. Just got my treatment plan and it honestly does get easier knowing what is going to happen. I was imagining worst case scenario (mastectomy with newborn) but I'm having chemo after the birth in 2 weeks time and a lumpectomy once chemo has finished and the lump has hopefully shrunk.
Anyway I just wanted to say hello and let you know you aren't on your own.

Well after seeing the surgeon on Tues we now have a plan. Baby is going to be induced at 36 weeks (just 2 weeks time eekkkk). Then I am to start chemo, not sure when waiting for oncology appt. After course of chemo they will do a lumpectomy in the hope that chemo has shrunk the lump so won't require a mastectomy.
I also found out that I have ductal invasive breast cancer, grade 3 with lymph node involvement. Not sure what this means in terms of seriousness and treatment and tbh I'm a bit scared to find out. I'm trying to stay positive and fight hard to beat it.
Have appts for liver ultrasound and chest x-ray on Friday to ensure it hasn't spread elsewhere.

Thank you all, it's "good" to know I'm not alone although I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
I've got a load of questions to ask on Mon & Tues and I am not going to let anyone do anything without having them answered first and it is something my husband and I are 100% happy with.
Breastfeeding is def on list of questions to ask, even if I do it for only a week it's better than nothing.

Hi, I'm 39 and have been diagnosed with bc on Tuesday. I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant with baby 2, my daughter is 20 months old.
I'm due to see my obstetrian (?sp) on Monday and breast surgeon on Tuesday for a care plan.
I'm a bit lost really, upset, scared etc. I wondered if there was a list of common questions anywhere to ask. I think the first ones are what sort of bc I have and the grade as I just didn't have a clue when they told me on Tuesday. I think everyone, even the clinicians thought the tests would come back benign just pregnancy changes.
Anyway any help would be much appreciated.
