I've never spoken to GP before always went to someone else but after diagnosis and during treatment he phoned to see if I was alright so I thought he was a good guy. I tend to agree with you Lucy after that experience. Lol xx

Have really hot flushes and cold chills since starting Tamoxifen and oncologist suggested low dose Venlafaxine or Citalapram. I know some ladies have been prescribed this on here. I spoke to GP today and he had never heard of and therefore had no experience of ad's for breast cancer. He was a bit nasty actually and gave me px for Venlafaxine "to help me out" all the while insinuating that I had asked onc for them and not that they were recommended. I don't want to take ad's and I probably will end up not being able too because of se as I am quite sensitive to drugs. My sister had citalopram and it made her feel rotten. All I wanted was some info on the best one to have and someone with experience of prescribing. Not a bloody lecture. Any contributions of experiences from you guys would be great. Xx

Hi all, yes hot flushes are a nightmare, increased in severity since starting tamoxifen. But I have to say that the chills are just as worst. I get goose bumps and literally shiver like I'm out in the snow. I seem to spend my evenings huddled under a blanket with a hot water bottle or chucking everything off and sweating buckets. I too wake at least every 2 hrs even freezing cold under covers at night. I go back to work soon in new job meaning 5.30 getting up and I do worry about amount of sleep. However much we try not to let this disease take over it seems to bite us on the bum at every turn. Keep reminding myself its keeping cancer at bay. Xx

Hi Hollykins. I had nausea for the first week and a half. I think it was mostly tension from travelling and thought of having treatment. You get used to going very soon and it falls into a pattern. Radiologists said some women do complain of nausea but no actual medical reason for it. I took some anti sickness tablets and it settled down after a while, I hope yours does too. Hugs xxx

Hi Lizzy You may feel better once radiotherapy starts. I felt very low between surgery and rads beginning. After a couple of weeks I began to feel better about the whole thing and was looking forward to the end of my treatment. Started tamoxifen after rads as my onc didn't prescribe before. Tamoxifen can cause low mood as well. Try not to be too hard on yourself you have been through a devastating time with lots of uncertainties you will get there. Xxx

Had three tats as well. I finished rads 20th Dec and se were mainly discolouration under boob and arm pit pigment changes like lots of moles. Skin a bit sore towards end and weeks after rads finished and the square tide mark that comes down your sternum and across your breast, which is the coverage area. I used aqueous twice a day, sometimes put a tissue down bra to stop rubbing from car bumping along and cabbage leaf! Sanex zero deodorant as it contains no aluminium and just simple soap to wash. You get into the swing of it after a few sessions. Oh and remember to still do arm exercises at the skin will tighten up. My sister suggested it was like what happened to flesh when you sear a bit of meat. Nice image lol. Good luck one and all. Xx

Hi ladies After lumpectomy i decided not to have chemo as doctors said I was borderline and not really indicated. You are all so brave and courageous and I wanted to wish you all the best, hoping for improved health and much happiness in the year ahead, although I don't underestimate how tough it is for you all. Just had 10th radio and not going too bad tightening up a bit but mainly last few days have been feeling nauseous on and off. Asked today and they said some ladies do feel sick but treatment as such shouldn't cause it. Prob just a combination if emotional, the travelling (we do tend to whizz down country lanes at speed eek) and feeling tired. Any ideas? XD

Hi my plan is to start tamoxifen and zoladex after rads. The reason being that my IDC was 8/8 er pos and although tamoxifen blocks oestrogen it can increase the level produced so zoladex will turn off ovaries to reduce levels. Feel a bit uneasy about s effects and the fact I have very bad hot flushes before treatment starts. But I will do what I can to reduce risk. I'm 49. Xx

Hi all, coming to the end of one and a half weeks of rads so far. Boob getting red and sore and scars under axilla red and angry looking. I finally got the cabbage and when I got home today tried it as clothes rubbing and sore. The shape lends itself perfectly and straight away the hot stinging burning eased. It at least acts as a barrier between skin and clothes. Spoke to BCN nurse today and said how it all felt so impersonal at our centre. She welcomed my comments as wondered why patients often phoned her rather than speak to Macmillan there, we would if we saw her! anyway feel quite positive. I know what you mean about other patients M a lady was crying in the toilet and I felt helpless to assist her apart from letting her know I understood. Anyway onwards and upwards. Xx

Thanks ladies for your reply. My wound is on side of breast under axilla so quite uncomfortable most of time. The seam of clothes irritates the skin and rubs. Was starting to improve but just started rads with boost to this tumour bed area. At the mo have a flannel down bra and under arm as hot flushes sweat irritates it more. So will have to get cabbage and try, at the mo only have sprouts available lol. Xx

Just started rads and a friend suggested using cabbage leaf to cool down breast etc as she used it during treatment and didn't have any major soreness. Old age remedy for breast feeding enforcement etc. Throwing this out there again. Looking back on posts this keeps cropping up. Perhaps we should trial it? D xx

Had radiotherapy today for first time. Experience a lot better than for setting up, although there were only men radiographers and no women but to be fair they did ask me if I minded as the female member had been sent home. Just wanted to get on with it after 40 min wait and over hours journey to get there. Immediately tho appt for tomorrow put back 1 hr 20 mins to end of day. Can feel effects already, skin feeling sensitive and scar sore, getting stabbing pains. Oh well all in a good cause. Xx

Hi Sharon I'm 49 and peri menopausal too having had hot flushes on and off for about 7 years. When they suggested zoladex it was all a bit of a blurr. Onc said it had some of the benefits of chemo they use to give 10 yrs ago as I was borderline for chemo perhaps it has something to do with this too. Will find out more when speak to onc again. Xx
