This was said to me by a work colleague just before my mx in May (after I had already had lumpectomy, slnb and anc in March): "You'll be fine, its not as though women our age have sex any more so its not as though you need them for anything; and besides I'm flat chested and it doesn't bother me" I was 51 at the time and now 52. What would you say to that? I simply could not respond to her.

Hi all, Hope everyone coping ok and enjoying a slight distraction with Commonwealth games. Thought I would share a funny with you... I have a picc line and on Tuesday went in for normal pre chemo bloods. Well the nurse not happy with the way it looked and thought it might be infected so had to see doctor. Doctor thought there might be a clot so sent off for a doppler ultrasound. When we went to the department for it a nurse said you must be from Oncology, after I asked my daughter how did she know and my daughter said it must be something to do with you wearing a bandana and looking like you have no hair under it...lol. When I went in for the doppler the lady said take off your trousers and shoes.....well the picc is in my arm...so I was just stood there looking from my arm to my legs in total confusion until my daughter told her its my arm...she then apologised and explaned she had been doing legs all morning. Upshot was no infection and no clot. Had 3rd Fec yesterday and now like most of you half way through. Change to 3 x Tax from next time. Take care all. xxx

Hey Cowgirl, Glad you coming out of the fog now. I agree with you the lethargy is a pain as dont seem up to doing much and the weight is piling on! I agree the best advise about meds from this forum has been to take all meds given whether you feel you need to or not and this has worked well for me for 1st two FECs. I am on day 5 after 2nd FEC and feeling not too bad so going for a walk to try and save a pound or two on the tummy. Take care xxx

Thanks Polar_1, glad your wig looks so good, hope mine does too. Unfortunately hubby is more of a wimp than I am and flatly refuses to do them and I don't blame him for not wanting to. My injections are for 5 days starting on day 5. xxx

Hi all, Sorry to hear some of you having tough time, Athens and Julie286, hope you improve soon. Also sorry not been on for a while, will try to do better over coming weeks, just not used to being on forums at all. Runner29 you are so brave going out with nothing on head...wow! not sure I could do that, though at the moment still have hair, but it has started coming out and I am leaving hair trails wherever I go. My daughter keeps asking when I will get it shaved. I do now have wig on order though so am getting prepared. I collected my breast prosthesis on Monday, I've christened it Betty (boob), but can't wear it for too long as still quite tender and still some fluid there. It does look loads better than silly softie that you get after the op. Yes I have to have names for all the bits...I have Peppa Picc, Betty boob and soon Wilma wig. I have 2nd fec tomorrow so don't suppose will get much sleep tonight, but that might be more for the fact its also my birthday and will be excited, lol. Does anyone do their own injections? I seem to be under pressure to do them myself but really not sure about it. Take care all xxxx

Hi Tinker47, I know what you mean about trying to make a joke out of the hair loss with family and friends and yet again we seem to need to put a brave face on it and laugh along with them. Sometimes I get a little fed up with all the brave faces I have to find. But I want another 30 years at least so a short period of no hair if it means no recurrence then bring it on. I do now take a very active interest in scarves and bandanas and am trying to find ones that match my normal fun self. Good luck for next Wednesday. Take care xxx

Well not too bad so far (hope not spoken too soon). Yesterday was left feeling very tired and quite grotty, so slept a lot. The unit have given me 2 types of anti-sickness and steroids to take over next few days and injections start Tuesday. Been up since 5 ish this morning and feeling ok so far. Hope others are doing ok too and if not I hope it improves for you soon. Its going to be a strange sort of life until October. Take care all xxx

Hi all, I'm starting FEC-T tomorrow morning, 3 x FEC then 3 x T. Feeling a bit nervous but I know it needs to be done. I have very poor veins so went for a PICC line today, it took over an hour and a half and 3 attempts!! But the cns was very persistent and thankfully got it in the 3rd time (3rd time lucky really does work!). I am 51 and was diagnosed late Feb with DCIS and IDC. Already had wle, snb & anc in late Mar. Positive nodes and no clear margin so then had mx late May. 2nd op also found LCIS & a small tubular tumor. In the words of my surgeon I had a 'busy breast'. Hopefully the other one is on strike and wont do anything silly. I read the monthly threads quite frequently but now its time to join in. Take care xxx

Mummycrow, Thank you so much for your reply, it really means a lot. I am 51, married with 1 daughter aged 30 (soon to be 31 in a couple of weeks). I live in Hampshire. I had no lump either, my diagnosis followed routine screening which weirdly came a year ealier than it should have, as my first one was in 2012 and should not have been due for next one until 2015. I think it came early because I changed my GP and surgery last year. So, if lucky is the right word to use..I am lucky its been picked up a whole year earlier than it might have been. I very nearly rang up to cancel it as I was not due for one but my daughter persuaded me to go anyway..well it was free!! I am sorry you are still recovering, but hope it is going well for you, does it normally take that long? Like you I know I have to get on with it, but there are times when I do need to have a good cry and get it all out. Once I've had a good cry am ok for a while after and try to just get on with things, though still getting painfull nigles on the boob and still very sore under the arm, but I know that will pass. Yes it is good to chat, it took me a while to get on here because really wasnt sure, but glad I did. Take care. Flutte xxx

Hi all, I have been reading this forum since 25th Feb when I was diagnosed with DCIS and IDC in right breast. At the time I was advised treatment plan was lumpectomy with SNB, followed by radio then hormone drug and chemo unlikely. Thats not so bad I thought, I can do that....silly me. Op was planned for 13th March but had to be postponed to 20th because I came down with tummy bug the day before. Op went ahead on 20th and surgeon advised 20% of women may need another operation if margins not clear. Thats farily low I thought, everything should be ok....silly me again. SNB was positive so in same operation had axillary clearance. The first turn in the 'journey' Recovered well, did all the exercises and have good movement back in arm. Follow up was yesterday and because of the positive SNB realised and accepted that this may change the unlikely need for chemo at the diagnoses to a possibility now. I was half expecting another turn with the chemo but not the other turn that came up and hit me from behind....yes silly me again. My margin was not clear and there were numerous little spots of DCIS throughout the margin and right to the edges. What was 11mm became 40mm. With the extra turns treatment plan has now changed to mastectomy in a few weeks time (thats what hit me from behind), followed by 6 months of chemo, followed by radio and hormone, oh and a CT scan at some point. Whilst I had half expected the chemo It never entered my head that a mastectomy would be on the cards. I can accept the new treatment plan as I know that everything is being done to get me through this and reading this forum has certainly helped, having read numerous posts from many wonderful people. Spent most of yesterday in shock and have cried a little this morning. I spoke to my boss at work who is very understanding and though I should be back at work from Monday he wants me to stay home because most people have colds at the moment. Though to be honest I dont know what to do. Part of me wants to go back to work because I miss everyone and part of me thinks I will just be a weepy wreck if I do.
