Hi Billan It's a hard decision one I had to make, I kept thinking if I go with a mastectomy and reconstruction which is a big op how will I feel if they don't find any more cancer. So take your time asked lots of questions about different types of reconstruction and the percentage of the chance of more cancer being found.

I had a mastectomy and reconstruction, had my fluid drained every four days. Just so uncomfortable. I agree with kitten_mad ring your care nurse.

Hi caramel Don't know if I mentioned it but I had my op in Raigmore. The staff are wonderful, couldn't be kinder, very understanding when I burst into tears, don't know why just emotions getting on top of me. Don't be afraid to ask for more pain relief if you need it. Hi gemini I had a mastectomy and a Ld flap reconstruction 2 weeks ago, apart from feeling a bit sore and swollen. I'm just on paracetamol now. Take it easy and don't worry if you burst into tears, I did twice in hospital and the nurses were so understanding. Hope all goes well for you. Lots of hugs

I had a LD back flap mastectomy and reconstruction, two weeks ago. I was worried because I have previously had a stroke so am on medication for blood pressure. But all went fine and I couldn't be happier. Still a bit sore and swollen, can not do much but feeling fine in myself. All the best to you, hope this helps a little even though the op is different

Although my mastectomy and reconstruction was LD flap I still had to wear a support bra the hospital gave me my first it's great you can buy it from Debenhams or Amazon the make is Amoena bit expensive but worth it

Don't know if I'll be much help Just had a mastectomy and LD flap reconstruction on my left side. Your recovery will depend on the type of reconstruction. I can not lift any thing and am very sore and swollen. Get tired easy. Driving is going to be a while. Give your local breast care nurse a call I found mine very supportive. Hope you find some help.

I had a LD flap which uses the muscle from my back, the mastectomy was done through my nipple. So I have all my breast skin. A piece of skin from my back was used to replace my nipple which wil be reconstructed later. Although I feel sore and swollen a the post op bra helps with support. My op took 8 hours so I just wanted to sleep after. I'm very happy with how it all went. Your op obviously will be different but take it easy I don't feel any where near as bad as I thought I would. Well that's my operaration over and I must say although I,m a bit sore and swollen I'm feeling very well. Lucky for me I have a great husband who can not do enough for me a wonderful family, great friends and wonderful nurses and staff at Raigmore Hospital Inverness who have and are supporting all the way. With out them my worries would not have been soothed, my tears dried and my arms filled with hugs. I hope anyone who is about to go through this all the best and lots of hugs.

Hi Roxie65 I'm sorry you've had such a bad time, but do get the leak checked out. Iam fortunate my care nurses, surgeon and hospital nurses could not have been nicer and more helpful. I hope all goes well with you and you find some support.
