Hi Kenstar   I too was unable to have a lumpectomy because of the large area of DCIS. I agree with your statement "For anyone facing this dilemma in the future I would always advise try the lumpectomy route firstly as a mastectomy is such a drastic step especially for a non invasive cancer."   This journey we are on has several routes but its the determination to reach our destination and get off the train that will always be our focus.   Hope you are well.   Hugs Dee xx ... Hi Ladies   Any type of surgery is such a personal decision. We have to do what we feel is right for us, bearing in mind that what may be right for one person may not be right for another.  Procedures offered to one person may not be appropriate for another person.    This is a journey that none of us would willingly go on but unfortunately none of us have a choice.   Here to help and I agree with taking each day as it comes.   Best wishes Dee ... Hi Karby63   Hope you had a chance to phone the breast care nurse. They are very helpful and supportive. To keep changing your mind swinging from left to right is understandable, you have a life changing decision to make and can only do what you feel is right at the time you make that decision.  I totally understand your biggest fear.  I know its hard but don't despair. There is so much advice and support that you can acquire from your Breast Care Team and so much support from these forums. I have walked in your shoes and am still on my journey if your asking me if it has always been easy then the answer is no but if you ask if it's been worth it then the answer is yes.   Hi Kabry 63   A lot depends on the size of the area affected by dcis. Your decision to have the area removed was what you felt was the right decision when you made it.  If you are now unsure phone the Breast Care Nurses and have a chat with them. Hi Rainbowrosie first thing first (((huge hugs))).  You like many of us are on a life changing journey.  It's not just a physical but a psycological one as well. I think the emotions you are going through are natural as right now it's how you are feeling.   The fact that you have develpoed lymphoedema has had an impact on you and just seems to be another hurdle to jump over. We are all glad to be alive but that does not take away the emotional impact you feel about the massive change you have gone through.  Speak to your Breast care nurse and let her know how you feel I am sure she can offer you some advice. Hi Sandie my journey has been very long 4 months ago mammogram found large areas of microcalcifications. Had 3 biopsies all proved inconclusive. Surgeon was sure I had DCIS so he did WLE and it was indeed DCIS high grade and wide spread surgeon didn't get clear margins. The largest area was 9 cm.and it is deep. Had SNB 2 weeks ago which was clear. Now awaiting mastectomy and immediate reconstruction at the end of the month plus will have to have at least 4 weeks of daily radiotherapy. Hi Poppet I'm so glad to hear your home. You wouldn't be human if you didn't feel angry, and your right it is a roller coaster ride that is indeed very draining. Hoping that the margins from WLE are clear. Hi Paricia4 you have been through so much.
